Tha W.A. Car Club (Western Australia) used to organise similar gymkhanas at Mooliabeenie Airstrip during the 1960's. There were several car rallies organised each year as well, some involved continuous driving over a 24 hour period with little opportunities for rest or sleep.
I was young and enthusiastic then, driving my Morris Minor in the gymkhanas and my Vanguard Spacemaster in the rallies.
