I once unloaded in Sparks and had to go to Lodi, Ca. to pick up a load. It was really windy in Reno and by the time I got to Donner, it was blowing snow. I was empty and the roads were slippery. There was a CHP in front of me, I asked him how far until we hit rain. I told him I was empty and he said he would stayed with me until I got out of the snow. Pretty nice guy. Been over Donner, hundreds of times. There are worse ones out there.
I went down Donner Pass twice and it is some rugged country, chained up once, second time I went down about 55mph a load of 3k lbs. this was in the year '90
I hualed pigs over this every week out of Colorado nebraska, kansas,Kansas, the eighties not a big deal and hualed cattle back out cali,if you can read the signs its the easiest mountian pass to get over
