  • Naturally, using an iPhone would make it even smaller! If you are interested in the Midi Commander (meloaudio.com), here is where you can get one:

    With this midi controller, you can get an incredibly small rig for playing live. You can control everything you need with your feet. I love it.

    Thanks Robert. For those with a lightning connector amp kit (like IRig or SonicPort), there are some extra connections needed for the iPad/iPhone. It mentions this briefly in the MIDI commandeer manual, but you will need an Apple Lightning to USB3 Camera adapter ($31 from Amazon) and some type of powered USB hub (approx $15 from Amazon). You then can run your Lightning IRIG adapter and the MIDI Commander into the USB hub and connect the USB hub to the Apple camera adapter to the iPad/iPhone. This works well. I've been using a bluetooth IK Blueboard previously, but it only has 4 programmable buttons whereas the MIDI commander has 8.

      Any latency issues with the audio interface and midi commander into the powered usb hub? I have an irig hd,do you think this setup will do just fine? Kinda worried about latency issues i’m planning to use tis set up live i just wonder if this will not give me “yeah it didn’t work, throw it away” problem..thanks..

    I just checked the back of my Marshall DSL 401 - no MIDI! Likewise my Fender and Vox amps. I don't have an iPad/Phone (nor do I want one) but the concept looks brilliant. However it has just made all my gear obsolete! Like Joe Walsh's album title "I'm an analogue man". Oh well, time for a trip to the guitar store and entering the 21st Century...any excuse, right? I never thought I'd have to learn so many new tricks as an old dog. Great work as always Robert.

      Keep in mind my iRig interface is ancient and does not sound so good because it goes into the headphone jack, which is not ideal for tone. A better interface will improve the sound a lot. The point with this video is just to show how you can control the sounds on an iPad/iPhone with the midi controller.

    So now there's a product from melo audio that combines the audio interface and the foot control idea in one box. What do you think?

    • @AdaptivePhenix
      @AdaptivePhenix 3 ปีที่แล้ว

      What do I think?
      Well I have been doing this for more than 10 years with Native Instruments Guitar Rig + Rig Kontrol 2 (pedal).
      There are 2 instrument/mic inputs. I have the guitar in #1 and mic in #2.
      Use the splitter in GR to process the guitar separately from the mic.
      My cheapie W10 tablet ($200) with 4g RAM and 128g storage handles this and a bunch more. 👍😎

    I am loving the iPad for building guitar tones in AUM using the busses. Each "pedal" can be 100% wet but then dialed into the sound with its own mix fader! This is special and very unlike a typical pedal chain. Overloud and Nembrini AUv3's are what I use currently as building blocks. Do you know how this Midi Commander might be usable as a controller for AUM?

    How did you connect the guitar to the iPad? I can only see you connecting the midi commander. I have tried to connect using an adaptor that has both a usb3 and usb2 connection but the iPad wont connect to the guitar through my positive grid riff? There doesn't seem to be enough power from the ipad to power both - they both work when connected separately directly to the ipad.

    Hi ! Cool video, just wondering, when I use my « regular » stomp boxes on a real amp, I love the fact that when I switch off an effect, there is still sound « spilling over » after, is it possible with this midi rig ? It feels like when you stop one effect on the midi commander the effect just stops...which I find weird with a delay for example. Thanks !

      @@arkavagoswami3068 You are correct, my apologies (more coffee needed). Try the MeloAudio TS Mega or the Harley Benton MP-500. They look remarkably similar ;) . The foot pedal is an interface into an iPad, has line and XLR outs, and can be used directly through USB as an audio interface for recording. It also supports phantom power with an XLR microphone input. The TS Mega has multiple modes of operation which support AxeFX, Bias Fx, and custom MIDI commands. The interface with foot switches and features makes it great buy at somewhere from $150 - $250 USD.
