Whether or not Jess was right to lecture Rory, the fact she was rocked and willing to question everything shows that he was right, it wasn't her. That said, the fact she says to Logan it's not easy when it's not handed to you is ridiculous. Rory's grandparents are incredibly rich and paid for her to attend a private school and Yale, and when she dropped out gave her free accommodation and found her a job. Rory has had almost everything handed to her, maybe not in early childhood, but as a teenager and an adult she absolutely has, so to lecture Logan on privilege is incredibly tone deaf of her. It's not tone deaf. She has priviledge but it's nothing compared to Logan's situation and I'm not just talking about money, priviledge goes way beyond that. Not everything would be exactly like the original show, but _A Year in the Life_ set everything up to be a good head canon for it like this, if nothing else.
Everyone always points out Jess ranting at Rory as being so satisfying calling her out, but I think the only one who did it well is Logan (in a different episode). Because he knows her flaws and he doesn't have her on a pedestal so it's not 'you're better than this' it's 'don't judge this life when you're just as much a part of it'
Same, I do feel Logan calls her out better because I do think he is the one who understands her the best. Jess puts Rory on a pedestal, and let's be honest, he doesn't know her like he's saying he is, he idolizes her. Logan and Rory are very similar in many ways. I think Logan is the one with a more honest view of Rory.
Logan calling her out for thinking she's above the life of privilege when she's very much a part of it is satisfying and needed, but Logan doesn't push her to be better. He says, "You're not above this." Jess says, "You *should* be above this." They come at it from different angles.
Something I've realised over time is Jess coming through the gate kind of implies he was hanging out in Emily and Richard's bushes for hours. 😂 We know it's late since they leave the bar after it closes and also Finn yelling 'Good mornings New Haven'. Was Jess just going to camp out all night? What if Rory had stayed at Logan's? Would he still stay until she got back or leave for the day and come back to camp out again the next night? Does he know what Rory's car looks like so knew she wasn't there when he first got there or did he think she was home and was hoping she'd just come outside at some point? Like I get why he wouldn't just knock on Richard abd Emily's door but him hanging outside brings up so many questions for me. 😂

Phone call scenes can be filmed in a few different ways. Sometimes they might do an actual call, sometimes there'll just be someone off screen reciting the the lines of the other half of the call so the person on screen knows how long to pause between lines so it flows like an actual conversation and is easier to edit together later. Apparently, it's usually the script supervisor who provides the other half of the conversation, but in some cases if the other actor is on set that day they might do it, but they wouldn't bring an actor in just to do it.
Occasionally, the other actor wants to be there to do it. And the four-way call in _When Harry Met Sally_ was filmed in real time to get the timing right.

Also Rory never at any point indicated she was un a relationship, and while I don't see Jess showing up as inherently making a move, I do think he mainly wanted to let Rory know about his book and thank her, he does still have feelings for her, which she knows, and she never at any point indicates that she might be seeing someone else so he then finds out she not only had a boyfriend but one who's being a dick

But she was also herself with Logan, she liked the rich life, and there's nothing wrong with that, but it's also her. When he claims it's not her, it's not true. Logan is the only one of her bf who actually knew her: the hard-working Rory, and the Rory who could enjoy life. He is the one who gave her the best calling out as they were both privileged but she somehow thinks she wasn't.

Yes, Rory was into school and studying but she also likes the life her mother ran away from. And there's NOTHING wrong with that!! Rory was actually really good at event planning for upscale parties. What's stupid is everyone acting like Rory joining the DAR is like joining the KKK or something
@@2029-jo you mean when they had that healthy discussion about how Lorlie was feeling and how she did get jealous and feel weird about it, but then took it back and understood that a relationship between Rory and her grandfather actually does make her happy?
That episode is somehow proof Lorlie wants her kid to be her mini me?
And just because Rory was good at planning and organizing doesn’t mean she should’ve been doing it for the DAR
She wanted more out of her life always did, and that’s not faulting that kind of life, but it is a waste of Rory’s talent to be used as a secretary when she could be the boss
Like lice about more than finding things are good at its about finding passion and going for shit that you actually need to do that gives you a reason to get up in the morning and actually thrive at your life
Which is what writing was for Rory
@@tracim3080 I never said Rory should have a career as a secretary. She needed this break. She was getting burnt out at college and questioning herself. And yes, Mitchum was an ass and I agree writing was one of Rory's passions that she was good at, but all I'm saying is that this time away from college gave her a chance to find out other things about herself that she's good at. I'm glad she went back, but sometimes I wonder if this was her own decision or she just did it to make Lorelai happy (because she practically shut her out and refused to even talk to her when she didn't do what she had in mind for her daughter)
@@2029-jo she needed the break, but she also needed the kick in the ass to get back in school, which is what Jess gave her
You realize it’s good parenting to actually hold your kids accountable and let them fall down and pick themselves back up
That’s what Lorlie did
Logan's reaction is understandable, hes supposed to be out of town, comes back early and when he goes to his girlfriend's place she's with a guy, ready to go on what seems like a date. Plus Jess is unpleasant and standoffish as per usual
Nah, if you're in a relationship you should be able to trust your partner. Even if he's suspicious he could handle it may more maturely than he does - he basically tries to initiate a pissing contest and belittle Jess. Also Rory freely admits that she dated Jess, people can be friends with their exes.
Don't get me wrong, I'm not a Jess apologist by any means, I think far too many fans cut him too much slack, but anyone would bestand offish if someone was acting like Logan was in conversation.
@@Harrison_J_T you can only trust your partner if they're trustworthy, not telling him that she was going to dinner with Jess is shady
@@radhiadeedou8286I was about to throw in… Rory cheated on Dean with Jess. 👀 🤣
@@Harrison_J_T She indicated he was her boyfriend when she introduced him as her boyfriend. She probably planned to mention that when they were having dinner together (since she didn't expect Logan to show up).
@@HuntingViolets she didn't really have a choice, he was standing right there
Jess does know her, you can't know the storylines by watching 2 eps a season. logan and jess are similar but also have big differences. Oh even though you watch 2 eps a season i like your videos a lot lol:)
He doesn't though, he knows a side of her. The rest he idolized. You can't claim to know someone when you don't see and talk to them for years. He knows she likes to read and she's a hard-worker.
@@EvySversa yea I like Logan more too. Still Jess does know her and quitting college isn't her or who she claims she is
wohoo, more gilmore girls!
I always wondered that about phone scenes. I always think it'd be much easier just to make the actual phone call.
I personally find Logan abhorrent and he’s truly at his worst this episode.
How would you react if you came back from a trip and you found your partner about to go on a date with an ex? Not to mention Jess's attitude and all the shit going on with Mitchum
@@radhiadeedou8286 Not like that. Bringing my partner in such an uncomfortable situation, never. I would just talk like a normal human being to the ex and try to get to know them a little bit.
6:53 I love that song (Tom Dooley- The Kingston Trio). I was always so offended that they shit on a young woman who obviously has some talent. To me, 50s and 60s singer/songwriter- folk music is timeless.
And I've never seen them sing or play and instrument...
They're all such assholes, except Logan (an asshole for diff reasons). Who wanted to apologize. 😂
19:49 That is a balalaika - it is Russian
Ok so now we gotta see you watch New Girl ??
Yeah, in this episode, we are entering the era people like to point at when arguing Jess was a good boyfriend. Even though at this point he is not actually anyone’s boyfriend.
I Just love that episode and like Rory again 😁♥️ Team Jess forever.
Ughhh Logan.
I think you confused Balalaikas with Vuvuzuelas
Indeed
Why is your thumbnail from a completely different episode???
It always is.
watch new girl!!!!
One day.
when did Jess ever act like Logan?
Every time he spoke to Dean.
this is a terrible episode for logan character 😅
Lorelai is the most annoying character ever written... can't fathom how or why people like her
If Jess thinks NY was expensive THEN- 🥲
