Ben Wallace over Rodman every day of the week, Ben Wallace never averaged 3 fouls a season in his career. Multiple seasons averaging 3 blocks and 1.5+ steals. Talk about versatility, he was doing so much defensively you couldnt keep him off the floor despite shooting 40% as a Center
He only had one season with 2.5 FPG in his career, and it was not the season he averaged a league leading 3.5 blocks with 1.7 steals at 6'7". The man has the greatest defensive peak in NBA history in my opinion, closely followed by Hakeem

Love the vid but Rodman over big Ben is crazy work. Wallace gave up half a foot and almost 100 pounds to prime Shaq in the 04 Finals but he was the only player ever to effectively contain him 1v1 and is imo the biggest reason the Pistons won that year. On top of that he's the best help defender maybe ever except, posted game-breaking rebounding and stock numbers, and there's a reason he won 4 DPOYs in the most defensive-oriented era in NBA history. Wallace is at minimum a top 3 defender ever imo, Rodman is not.
How does anyone forget about hakeems work on Shaq in the finals. Lol the only player to contain him is asinine Everytime I hear it. I love Ben Wallace but Shaq averaged almost 30 a game still. Not exactly being shut down. Lots of defenders made life hard on Shaq. Including arvydas sabonis. It was the early 2000s where the NBA just lacked quality centers especially in the east.
Discovered your channel today and I have to say I'm impressed, mainly considering you seem to be young. I'm a young guy also (turning 25 today), but I've been watching old games for several years now. Pretty much watched every playoff game I could get my hands on from 1980 to 2011, plus a ton of regular season games. I agree with almost every selection you made. Probably, the one I'd disagree the most is Anthony Davis over Wilt Chamberlain, considering Wilt's Lakers's version was the his best defensively. The Bulls one is also controversial. Nowadays, Pippen is widely seen as the best defender, but based on the games I've watched, I'd go with Jordan, mainly in the playoffs. To me, MJ was a better on ball defender, better at attacking passing lanes, overall a better stealer and shot blocker in his prime on top of being a clutch defender. Plus, contrary to popular belief, Jordan usually guarded a better perimeter player than Pip was guarding. Both were phenomenal help defenders and I'd give a slight edge to Pippen. Pippen was also more versatile and one thing I really like about him is his ability to cover a lot of ground. When his man didn't have the ball, he'd usually sag off and with his quickness, strenght and length, he'd be able to switch onto several players or help in the paint in the split of a second, just amazing. Gary Payton was the easy choice, but his defense on MJ in 1996 is also a bit overblown. He did great in game 4, but not so much in game 5 or 6(in game 6 he started guarding MJ, but Hawkins was the main defender on Jordan). Overall, looking at shot by shot, Jordan shot 50% while being directly guarded by Payton in those last 3 games. Adebayo over Mourning surprised me at first, but you made a compelling case and I don't disagree, same with Battier over Gasol. I'd go with Robinson over Duncan, but considering Duncan's impact and longevity, I'm fine with having him at #1 also. I agree with Rodman over Wallace, his impact was tremendous and not shown in the box score. Easily the most versatile defender I've watched and the only one who could efficiently guard 1-5. Guys like Larry Nance, Derrick Mckey, Bobby Phills and P.J. Brown also came to mind, but neither were trully the #1 in their franchise, history wise. Overall, great BB knowledge and I really enjoyed the video, keep it up.
I think John Stockton should have also gotten an honorable mention, considering he is the all time steals leader by a pretty significant margin. While I agree that Rudy is the number one guy, Stockton going without mention while having 5 all-defense nods seems like a little bit of a slight (although I do understand that you can only mention so many players in one video).

I’ll never understand how Jordan is a gambler but Pippen is not and Pip being a better help defender than Jordan lol. Jordan gets more steals and blocks and they were a top3 defense when Pip was a rookie in 88. Narrative crafting.
Actually, Pippen usually lost his head-to-head matchup. Every all-star small forward scored better against Pippen than they did the rest of the league. Name me one small forward that Pippen shut down. And please don't say Magic because Pippen only guarded Magic for 1 1/2 quarters in the NBA Finals. Jordan guarded Magic the rest of the time. Pippen was greatest at team-defending and weak-side help.
All-stars usually can't be completely shut down. But in Bulls' title runs, Pippen played great defense versus at least the Wilkins brothers and Glen Rice. Pippen was a great 1v1 defender.
@@penkima4923 Pippen did not guard Gerald Wilkins in the playoffs; he guarded Xavier McDaniels, who averaged 19 points (6 points ABOVE his regular season average) on 50% shooting ( he shot 47% during the regular season). Jordan guarded Gerald Wilkins. When Pippen guarded Dominque in the playoffs the following year, Nique averaged 30 ppg (2 points above his regular season average). I watched Pippen in almost every game with the Bulls. He was a great team defender, but he looked intimidated in most of his man-to-man matchups. As a man-defender, his reputation is inflated.
Ben Wallace is trash in ofense but his defense is creaizy if you wach tape you will sea a beast that destroy every offens every night. Bro won a Championship whit out any type of ofensiveb bag
not even TOP3. KAREEM / S.MONCRIEF and A.ROBERTSON..GIANNIS is overrated he actually cant play defence, just look at him with GREECE he was a liability and in the NBA fans think chasing blocks is great defence..
Purely statistically, the GOAT defender is Tim Duncan, then David Robinson, then Hakeem, then Ben Wallace, then Kevin Garnett. Entirely based on cross referencing whos the best at advanced defensive stats for their career. DBPM, DRTG, DWS/48, and career STOCKS
none of those stats matter. the best stat is on/off, because that actually shows how the team performance is impacted. when you look at defensive on/off the best defender in history is bill russell and its not even close. when he played his team was the best defense, when he didnt they were very below average. and that stayed consistent for his entire career and led to 11 championships, all predicated on his unfathomable defensive impact.
@Joeboblarry1 I wasn't counting players before 1970 for that reason, Wilt and Bill are impossible to account for because essentially every stat they have except for DRTG is incomplete and that's still skewed because of different offenses by era (50s-60s scoring more than 80s teams because the pace was so high)
@cwj_721 on and off numbers are easily skewed by having a bad backup at your position. Jokic is usually towards the top of on/off defense, but you can visually see that he is not one of the best defenders in the league, not even really close. But because he plays the most Center minutes on a consistently top 10 defense, and DeAndre Jordan is his backup who couldn't defend even when he was young, which completely alters the numbers to make it seem like Jokic is the best team defender in the association
@@AGoldenShow ok thats one example, which i agree with. But what about when bill russell’s defensive on/off stayed consistent every single season he played and they were the #1 defense? Is it coincidence that before and after he played for the celtics, their defensive rating was below average again?

Let’s say this gobert can’t play elite offensive big man …Embiid has constantly destroyed him and jokic has as well to my knowledge
A lot on Gobert…
@@RatedRex1 Nique averaged the same amount of point as in regular season, but with worse shooting, less rebounds and more turnovers.
Ben Wallace is trash in ofense but his defense is creaizy if you wach tape you will sea a beast that destroy every offens every night.
Bro won a Championship whit out any type of ofensiveb bag
“Bothered by his length” ayo

Bucks is Giannis come on
no mention of Bucks playoff defenses with Giannis I'm sure.
not even TOP3.
KAREEM / S.MONCRIEF and A.ROBERTSON..GIANNIS is overrated he actually cant play defence, just look at him with GREECE he was a liability and in the NBA fans think chasing blocks is great defence..
@@onlyfacts3178 you are a casual
@@samuel_shemire so i am the casual who named 3 guys who are better defenders than GIANNIS 🤣🤣, sure you are the expert...
@@onlyfacts3178 none of them are
Kawhi was great but he wasn’t a top 2 defender on that 18-19 team imo
This is an insane take
@@Joeboblarry1 not really. I watched that team the whole season. Kawhi cruised on defence through out that season
Counting stocks when they’re only recorded for part of history seems unfair no?
Goat defenders and you got Lebron in the thumbnail really???
What the fuck are you talking about
6x all defense, 3x runner up in DPOY, guarded 1-5… don’t be stupid
Bron’ll clamp yo favorite player wit the game on the line point blank period
Embarrassing comment
Lebron had a great peak as a defensive player from 2008 to 2013.
