- More Suicide Mission tracks than you can count all rolled into one. These tracks are mostly in order as they occur in the game. Had to do a little remixing here and there. When Garrus got hit. I remember dropping the controller thinking he was gone. And he shrugged it off and I just remember cheering so loudly.
Even knowing that the second squad leader takes a minor hit, I still get anxious thinking that they're going to die. I love this mission. It stresses me out in a good way.
I've only completed it twice, but both times I've brought Tali and Thane with me to the final fight.
I did the mission 5 times and it never gets old.
1st Fire Squad Leader: Garrus
Hacking Specialist: Legion
First Squad: Miranda and Samara
2nd Fire Squad Leader: Miranda
Barrier: Jack
Crew Extraction Leader: Mordin
Second Squad: Legion and Thane
Final Squad: Garrus and Tali
Result: Everyone Survived (Both Squad and Kidnapped Crew Members)
Same with Tali.
I lost count how much I did this mission because its so epic but when I played last time (2 weeks ago) mine choises were familiar exept for hacking spec (Tali) and squads members (1st Jack and Thane, 2nd Grunt and Jacob and Final was Samara and Thane. I played on hardest so I had to make sure I will deal with barriers and armors. And Warp, Concussive Shot ,Warp Ammo and Fire Ammo was best for that combo)
This game is a fucking masterpiece of video game storytelling. Getting you so invested in literally every single one of your squad and their stories and relationships with Shepard, even the 2 DLC members, the comradery that develops over the course of the entire game leading up to this, the amount of work you put into upgrading the Normandy mk.2 until it has got THE most advanced heavy guns, armor plating, and kinetic shielding in the entire Milky Way Galaxy, bringing your Shepard from the first game over to the second and so many of your choices having unexpected consequences, upgrading Shep to max levels, resolving the loose ends of Shepard's death and the deaths of the original Normandy crew by visiting the original ship's crashsite, meeting Liara and The Shadow Broker (especially important if you romanced her in the 1st game), meeting back up with Wrex too, and then it all finally comes to a head in a balls to the wall suicide mission where EVERYTHING you've done up to that point pays off one way or another, and all with an unbelievably epic score.
This game's finale was an absolute once-in-a-lifetime event. Pure art.
The fact literally ANYONE could die in this mission at any time made it so tense. You never knew when someone wouldn’t make it.
Even Shepard could die at the very very end if you REALLY fucked up. Successfully complete the final mission but Shepard and in fact your ENTIRE crew could all die at the end anyway and then the credits roll. That's how you get the player invested in the game and its story and make them feel like they ARE Shepard Commander.
I’ve gotten the suicide down to a science sadly so I can make sure everyone lives *sigh* goodbye suicide mission tension… remember my first play through of it I was going in with like two squad members not loyal (thane I fucked up his loyalty mission and didn’t reset but oh well, and Jack because of the fight between her and Miranda and I wanted to romance her first) so hard to get everyone out alive but I did it! However that save never went to Mass effect 3 I deleted it and did a whole new better play through for Mass effect 3 with a tali romance.
@@dildonius Shepard dying at the end is the definition of Mission Failed Successfully. You failed so hard, you got your MC killed.
I think you guys are being drama queens it's fairly easy for everyone to survive. granted when the game was first released and you played if for the first time and didnt know what you're supposed to do, yeah I'm sure it was suspenseful because you didnt do a loyalty mission, or maybe you did but then sided with someone else during an argument, or you didn't upgrade the Normandy entirely. but now everyone knows what to do you have to try on purpose to get someone killed lol.

here Shepard actually looks like an Akuze survivor with traces of anger and thousand feet of PTSD in his eyes.
Arguably the best modular ending sequence in all of gaming. Absolutely incredible feeling.
Listening to this score in game, I can truthfully say it's the only time a game has had me _legitimately speechless._

Ironically it's the weakest in the series story wise. The plot continues with a DLC in the Arrival.
This made the ending to this game so great.
Fun Fact: ME2 and ME3 main plot should have been about dark matter, not the Reapers.

Josh Taylor It's Drew Karpyshyn's idea for the end of the trilogy, which he admits wasn't fully fleshed out, but only because it was ultimately canned (and he once said he wasn't too fond of it anyway).
TL;DR - Using biotics is ending the universe, and reapers are trying to stop it somehow.

So if I'm on the same wavelength as Karpyshyn was, it seems to have roots in the Haestrom loyalty mission in ME2, where the sun Dholen has gone unstable and is prematurely turning into a red giant.
It would turn out that from the analysis that frequent use of Eezo to manipulate dark energy (the major factor in mass effect/ftl drives and biotic abilities) is having a drastic effect on the fabric of space-time.
The Reapers, having spent eons of time witnessing this threatening to happen each time, are consistently wiping out organics to stop them from harnessing the powers of eezo and bringing about the end.
On that note, an alternative idea Drew had was that the beginning of the Big Crunch was nearing, and the Reapers realised that they and all other AI lifeforms can't harness biotics (for unexplained reasons). So they're grooming civilisations, forcing them to evolve in the way they want, and wiping out the failures until the reach the race with the most stable and strong biotic ability, so they can somehow avert the Big Crunch. It just so happens that the Asari, while the most powerful biotics in this cycle, weren't good enough.

That it does - the skills you've had all your life are wrecking the universe. The good part is somehow, you have to pull it back together with other biotics in a sort of choir.

It’s actually called Infiltration in the combat soundtrack. There is also a great guitar version by FamilyJules
while I enjoyed mass effect 3 overall the most, nothing beats the suicide mission
ME3 did two things brilliantly. I believe that it's only sequel where in the beginning you feel really strong and you'll build upon that. Not stiupid amnestia or anything like that. Right from the get go you'll be kicking ass. You're a freaking HERO!
Also, builds were so, so, so fun in ME3. Freaking awesome!
me3 had the best gunplay, but the story deeply suffered from many lackluster choices
@@norseca542 Idk. I think the story is great right up to the moment Shepard is beamed up to the Citadel from London in the finale. From the moment Shepard arrives on The Citadel, the story completely falls apart. Mainly because the idiots at EA made Bioware rush the last act of the game just to meet some arbitrary deadline.
3 has the highest highs and the lowest lows of the series, but 2 is consistently solid from start to finish, imo.
I wish there where more missions you could bring all squad mates. Also wish the suicide mission had more interactions, like needing to be faster or a teammate would die etc. It just comes down to getting the loyalty and buying the upgrades.
This was the greatest game I ever played in my entire life. I was 12 years old and surviving from my struggles from school. This series gave me something to feel inspired by or empowered by. Characters felt like friends, my decisions mattered, and my choices actually felt like they mattered. I loved this series so much. Words cannot describe how many emotions I felt during the Suicide Mission.

Only in Mass Effect 2 can 30 minutes be such an invigorating exhilarating mixture of awesome, badass, and epic.
Time at about 10:10 I remember so clearly, going in with your crewmember trying to disable the doors as you progressed though, trying to rush so they don't die by overheating. I love the music, the fighting, the part with the Normandy against that other ship, everything about this games ending blows away a lot of other game endings. I also loved hearing Harbinger constantly taunt you throughout the game, that tension, battling the collectors.
12:10-12:40 mark was one of my favorite parts of the mission. Both fireteams reassemble to hold down the doors.
Agree 1000% When the squad lines up and Garrus says, "Don't let anyone through that door" I was like THOSE MY NINJAS RIGHT THERE MOTHA FUGGAS!!!!!!!
11:43-12:12 is my favorite part of that stretch of the mission. You've been preparing for this the whole time, you're making your push, the fighting is tough but it's turning your way, Garrus in Squad B is telling me they're fighting their way through. The music picks up and it feels like "Yes, we're doing this! We CAN do this." Great scoring. I really enjoyed Mass Effect 1 but Mass Effect two really had a lot going for it emotionally. It was the game in the series that really made me love this series and made this one of my favorite space operas. We will not speak of number 3 and the ways that it fumbled and broke our hearts.
And even at the end of Mass Effect 2 as you see the Reapers coming towards the Galaxy, you're like "Here's Shepard, he's (or she's) done the impossible twice. We got one of the best damned crews in Sci-fi. With these guys around, it might just be alright."

My favourite part - 11:42 - 12:10. I remember when that started the first time, as my specialist (Legion) was stuck in the vents and I had that countdown until he roasted in there. There were too many Collectors blocking my way, but I ignored all the cover tactics I'd learned throughout the game to this point and vaulted over my current cover and began aggressively advancing on the enemy.
This music just made the whole affair feel like I was participating in some epic movie battle.
After beating the human reaper, the cutscene is so amazing. You first feel dread at the prospect of your dead squad mates but soon discover that they live. You then hear reassuring news from joker that the whole crew made it aboard the Normandy. Suddenly the ominous music kicks in as the seeker swarms move it. You and your companions start running as collectors start firing at you and explosions go off all around you. The triumphant score emerges as the harbinger delivers his salty monologue. The Normandy appears and as you and your party members run the gauntlet. They both make the leap and are safe as Joker lays down covering fire with pinpoint accuracy. It’s just you, Commander Shepard, hero of the citadel. You see your target. You run. Collectors at your back, an impossible jump in front of you. Nevertheless, you take the leap of faith, just catching the edge of the ship and holding on with all your might. Fear and panic begin to settle in but as your loyal friends pull you up, the dread recedes. Shepard tells Joker to get out of here just as the bomb goes off. You’re not out of the fire yet. Joker expertly guides the Normandy through a sea of debris, holding destroyed ships and the ghosts of dead crew. The bright flames of the explosion, close on your tail. The omega 4 relay just in sight as the wave of orange and red gets closer. You manage to reach the relay and shoot out of there before it is engulfed. You made it out. You survived a suicide mission. You always will. You are Commander Shepard.
Once a year I put on this music when I clean up my apartment. It kinda is like a suicide mission ^^
And we're going to do it all over again in the Remastered Edition... here we go!

It just shows how important is to have a good or in case of Mass Effect 2 amazing music.
Mass Effect 2 with music on mute is probably good experience,but I doubt it's as epic.
With this kind of music it just feels incredible.
I played this game too many times simply because of its astonishing music.

The cinematic direction and epic soundtrack in the Suicide Mission was just so breathtaking, I almost felt lie I was watching a movie.
Mass effect 2 for PS3 was my firsy mass effect game. I remember the menu screen appearing and this music starting. I had my headphones on and I just sat there listening to it until it looped. So awesome, I knew this was something special!
And now it’s on the PS4 and PS5

Did anyone notice that beginning of of ME2 Normandy theme was playing then Collector ships theme completely shut it up and their drums began to play. After you get past of debris collector ships theme started it again but this time it collided with sheer will of suicide mission and their drums got silenced as a victory.

I maintain that soundtracks are only half as good when you don't understand the context behind them. A friend of mine had me listen to this before I played the game, and didn't think much of it. After playing through the suicide mission, being wrapped up in all the tension, I hear this music completely differently.

Maybe not the greatest ever made. But as far as spectacle, cinematography, pure blockbuster goodness - it's certainly one of the greatest examples of storytelling ever made. This franchise is going to be producing hits for another decade, easy.

It would be interesting to know your thought process concerning the details of how you choose to knit the different selections together. Well, that level of detail may be too much to hope for in this setting, but I like your work, anyway.

I just started playing this trilogy recently and when I played this Tali was killed by a rocket. She was one of my favorites. Everytime I think back on it I always say "I'm so sorry". It broke my heart and I feel like I let her down. I am so invested in these games, just started ME3 and honestly, I am kinda scared of reaching the end. These games have made me feel things that I haven't felt from a video game in so long.
Screw Andromeda. I'm gonna play this again.

When ever I think of Mass Effect This mission is what I think of It is sublime. The raise in tension, the concentration on saving your teammates of getting them out of the pipes, the shot that Garus took before the doors close to the very last scene where Miranda turns on the illusive man and you get out with or without all your team.
This is one of the defining moments of the highest melding of music, art, acting and modeling of any game I have ever played.
Oh my God this is absolutely amazing!! Loved every minute, best 30 odd minutes of today, sure to be repeated :D

Just finished this game yesterday night - my first time playing Mass Effect 2. I must say, I have not recovered from the epic-ness of the suicide mission and ending!!!

Bob Bobby lol same here. Just make sure your play through begins from Mass Effect (ME) 1! My first time playing this was through ME 2 & ME 3 only - you miss so much info and there are loads of limitations if the games are not played chronologically (esp. from ME 1)

Yep already done all 3 games, doing female (not literally....) this time round.
Part of what made ME2 so great was that during the suicide mission you legitimately did not know if your character or companions were going to get out alive.
The vocalising at 25:30 would have been perfect for fighting the Proto-Reaper

I could close my eyes and replay it all over again in just my head with the music. Nothing's ever topped the anticipation and resolution of Mass Effect 2 for me. I just hope the remaster adds only good.
I remember, first time going through the suicide mission was absolutely epic, in no small part to this score. I mean everything about the mission was perfect. The sets were incredibly well done, it wasn't too easy, but it also wasn't impossible. You actually felt like you were bringing to bear the Galaxy's Greatest Badasses down on the Collectors. That sequence where you fight through the Collector Base opening pipes for your tech specialist to infiltrate the base was amazing. I can only hope that Mass Effect Andromeda has a level which captures the sheer badassry of the Suicide Mission.

11:42 When i heard that part for the first time while fighting the Collector's; my heartbeat increased, started to sweat, and got goosebumps and chills. Damn, i was playing with so much conviction and passion that almost broke my mouse. I never imagined that a game could make me feel like that. Was I the only one?

See if the end of ME3 was like this like fighting your way through Harbinger as the flagship of the Reaper forces and destroying it taking his Reaper bodies out with him with the music playing would of made ME3 ending way way better than what we got.
When I first played ME2, the beginning was so disjointed and the characters all seemed so depressed (rightfully so), I really wasnt sure I was liking the game... but steadily the stakes kept getting higher and higher... and Harbinger comes on the scene and he is so menacing and by the time of the Suicide Mission the music built up to such a degree it was completely thrilling to face the Reaper-Human. ME3 was pretty much epic up until that final mission. In fact some of the best ME trilogy moments happened in ME3 just before that mission. e.g. Mordin, Grunt, Legion and Thane's story arcs. The issue with the final mission is that very little of what you did prior to that mission in gathering an army to fight the reapers counted for shit. It would have been awesome if the battle played out differently depending on whether you had Krogan, Salarian's or both armies in the fight. etc.
BEST FINAL MISSION EVER! I was so scared and pumped at the same time for this for the first time! ME2 will always be the best!!

God, I adore this game.
This was the first time a game made me AWE. This is definitely my favourite game of all time! Mass Effect 2 has one of the best endings I've experienced.

Ah, 19:40. Yeah. Didn't hear that one until the second play through as I was 12/12 with my crew the first. That took a few re-dos, not to mention going to a save six missions earlier to avoid the Collector ship until I had completed all of the loyalty missions as you only get a few missions after the collectors before it FORCES the abduction sequence, and I couldn't just leave the crew of the Normandy 2 to be turned into goo.
Bah. Totally worth it. This final mission was absolutely EPIC. The first game's was also pretty badass. The thirds was... well... it was an End Once and For All...
Dude, seriously. I get some mega-chills after I finish the whole thing and that song comes on in the credits. God, even the SOUNDTRACK is amazing. So well orchestrated. You could very literally take that song, insert into the part where the Rohirrim charge on the Orcs at Minas Tirith and it would blend seamlessly.

hey man, you should play them.it will be one of the most rewarding experiences,,after that you will want to play them again.explore different choices and possibilities.I got into mass effect in late 2013.finished the trilogy only yesterday for the first time.buy all 3 games and play them, do yourself a favour.:-)
Definitely play the first one first, man. It's aged, and it can be hard to go back to if you play another one first. Also, your choices and character carry over, and the game REALLY shines when you import your characters through all three games.
That's right. You can make your perfect, badass Shepard and play as the EXACT SAME Shepard through all three.
I started with 2 first, Mass Effect 1 is rough in ways. It's broken in many areas, but it's a glorious game!
Around the 20:00 mark is the best part of the game for me. The squad you've spent the whole game recruiting and training lines up in a row. Its your "return of investment."
Grand...just Grand, love playing this against the collecters in the Armax Arsenal Arena...while having a fine Whisky, cheers lads
