Hello Paul - greetings from a freezing cold Poland. You have excelled yourself with this superb video. Steam locos galore, the beautiful Staffs and Worcester Canal and a class 37 diesel. Add to that some stunning Worcestershire countryside and magnificent views, with atmospheric music to match. Then you add some wonderful still photographs to the mix. The result, a video with something in it for everybody to enjoy.
Thank you Michael! I try and mix my content up because I know different viewers like different things. Glad you enjoyed it too. Stay warm and safe. All the best! Paul
Absolutely wonderful. The opening scene of the new builds in the background and the old train in the front. The light from the sunrise was just perfect. I love trains I have no idea why, but seeing them is spectacular. Thank you.
Thank you so much! Yes, the Severn Valley Railway passes through some stunning scenery, and it is a photographers/videographers paradise! Thanks for watching and commenting. Cheers, Paul
Splendid images of the SVR, magnificent viaduct, tranquil canal and the gorgeous scenary around Bewdley. The views from Burlish Top were stunning, and in marked contrast to Kidderminster town centre, which I found so uninspiring when I visited some years ago. However, the SVR museum looks really interesting - and a bookshop too. I'll have a browse around, as I hope to travel over the SV rails again, in 2024.
Thanks Malcolm! It was a very pleasant change to have some steam later in January which aren't Santa Specials, good those though are. It is always a long gap between Christmas and Easter to film some steam - I do think other heritage lines are missing a trick by not running some services at this time of the year, but also realise that they do do track maintenance now as well. Yes, the scenery around Kidderminster is stunning, but as you say, the town itself is a tad uninspiring, not helped by the ring road that seems to go on forever. It isn't one of Worcestershire's many gems, but, I guess they can't all be, and it did play a large part with the industrial revolution. The SVR really does has so much to offer, and I do hope to be on a trip on it, or two, later in the year, as it doesn't take long to get to from where I live. Cheers! Paul
Yes, i did enjoy that video Paul, lovely winter light, and evocative steam and rakes of lms and lner carriages! What more can we ask! And a bonus canal!
Hi Paul, great video, the sound recording was absolutely superb, close your eyes and I could have been there, well done!! I could see the passengers looking out from their steam heated carraiges, they were thinking ..... I'm not getting out it looks too cold!! You got some great canal shots in too including a narrow boat on the move which we dont often see (I think). That viaduct was made for photography!! All the best!!
Thank you David! Thanks for your kind words about the audio soundtrack - I do spend quite sometime trying to get as best as I can. I always think that it is at least 50% of the entire video. The narrowboat was just in the right location, but I did think about pushing that white van out of the way!! Yes, not many narrowboaters are on the move at this time of the year, so it was good to see that too. It was a most enjoyable day - and a very popular one too. Thanks so much! Take care, Paul
Thanks Christopher! Great to hear from you. Yes, I will be back on both the SVR and the WSR in the spring - maybe down to the SDR too - not visited that one yet for Westcountry Wanderings, although I used to live in Totnes. Cheers! Paul
Wonderful video! I particularly liked the shots of the steam trains going over the viaduct bridge! And the panoramic views were gorgeous- could see them on a calendar! I liked the shot of the approaching train but sure you got covered in soot for your art!!! Thanks Paul
Thank you Diana! Thankfully, I didn't get covered in smoke. I have since learnt that that loco that went into the tunnel was running on it's very last day, and it was struggling. It will now be out of action for sometime due to boiler repairs and other things too. It is known affectionally as 'The Flying Pig' - I don't know why! Yes, the views from the common in Kidderminster across to the Wyre Forest are stunning aren't they? The Wyre Forest is an area that I hope to explore at some future point. Thanks for a lovely comment! Take care, Paul
Glad you didn’t suffer with the smoke & soot at the bridge! Oh hope the’Flying Pig’ wasn’t struggling too much. I hope all the repairs go well & it is up and running on the line again soon. I didn’t realise the view was of the Wyre Forest! Thanks Paul.
Thank you Faith! I try to mix things up at bit, as I know different viewers like different things. Not many TH-cam train videos have cows in them!! Take care, Paul
Thank you Jesse! Glad you enjoyed it. Quite a surprise to have a steam railway open in January - normally they don't reopen until the springtime after Santa Specials. Take care, Paul
Thank you Henry! Great to hear from you. I am a big fan of your channel, though, as you know with doing TH-cam, there is never enough time to comment on others videos with travelling, filming, editing and replying to own comments. Yes, it was a super weekend, and great to have some steam running at this time of the year - normally they are all closed until around Easter. From the passenger numbers that I saw on the trains, I think it has been a huge success for the SVR - to bring in some much needed revenue. I will try and catch up with your videos of the weekend later if I can. I was only there for the Sunday. Happy railway travels and filming, Take care, Paul
@@westcountrywanderings You're welcome! Yes, it was good to see so many people enjoying the gala. Thank you and likewise! I'll look forward to see where you go in 2024.
Hello Jim! Hope you are keeping well. Thankfully, the relentless wind and rain that we seem to have had almost continually since the end of September last year has now ended. Sunny, calm and cold is the new theme, much easier and photogenic to film in that, as long as you wrap up warm. Thanks so much! Take care, Paul
Aren' those miniature railways fun to watch. The colours ( late Autumn) golden winter sunshine were really stunning Paul. That 'old timer' train brings back such nostalgic memories. Lovely to see so many enthusiasts there too.Train spotters at the ready. That bridge is gorgeous. In itself worth photographing. Those long boats are lovely- not something we see here - apart from the odd stray from across the ditch. A calm looking day from what I can see. Lovely after all that rain. You really captured some great movements of the train Paul. Most enjoyable video to watch. What a lovely view too close to where those cattle were grazing. Added another dimension to the video👌🇳🇱🙋♀🇳🇿
Thank you Anita! Yes, I try and set the scene with my railway videos, and not just show endless steam engine shots - I think context is everything. I was lucky with the low angle of the light, which, as you say, made everything look more colourful. Thanks so much for your kind words. Take care, Paul
Its the nearest steam railway to me and yet somehow I've never managed to ride it, despite seeing the trains go past many times. Must do that this year. Enjoyed. Warm wishes from Millionaire Paul 👋 #moderndaybreakfastclub
Thank you Paul. Lovely to hear from you. Yes, this goes right to Bridgnorth in Shropshire but I also think there is a little steam line in Telford too, but I have never been there. Hope is all good with you Be great to do a Collab You can always contact me via my Facebook Westcountry Wandererings Group and PM from there. All the best, Paul
Thank you Lionel and Mary. I filmed it on Sunday just gone (7th January) a lovely, but cold day. I am just pleased that that awful continuous rain has stopped so I can get out properly to film. Hope you are both keeping well. Take care, Paul
