My girl friend and I thought he was disgusting but we liked the music. We went to a concert where we had to take the train for hours this was not in GB. The Glitterband had been rehearsing and we were standing outside hoping for an autograph we were 15 years-old and when they came out I got an autograph from one of them (he is dead now) but he asked me if I wanted to go to a party after the concert at their hotel and I said no thanks and as an adult I have been pretty happy I did and I have to wonder if this was for himself or the Leader of the gang. In my mind they were adult men and I had no interest in that but adult men at that time had a hard time leaving teen girls alone and I'm sure nothing has changed.

Never was a fan of the clothing or glam Rock itself, but blimey the music was outstanding.
I remember my reaction after hearing it out loud in the cinema for the first time in years on the joker movie, I almost got up to dance.
I pretended I wasn't a fan and sat still, but my toe was jumping like a gooden in my boot.
Got to give 100 out of 100 to the director who chose that track, very ballsy.
Normally I'm listening on earphones, shame I can't blast it out like I used to as a kid, but my neighbours already give me dirty looks..

I was in a pub once around 2010 and some fool put Gary glitter songs on the duke box. Some bloke shouted "who put this F**king peedo on!?" then everyone started chanting "get him off get him off" a couple of lads started asking around who put it on like they wanted to dish out a beating lol.

I saw Joker in the cinema three times and there were audible gasps whenever that scene was projected. Believe it or not, it was meant to be Bennie and the Jets by Elton John, but they couldn't get the rights. I don't think that song would have worked nearly as well ; it needed to be a track that was both exhilarating and repulsive.

Glitters assistant going out to pick what was available, in terms of girls, picking ut the lambs for the slaughter, you can only pick from whats available, and his explanation, made me think of the Dr Who story the Talons of Weng Chiang. A phantomlike creature lurks in the basement of the theatre and has his servant go out and pick the freshest girls for him. The phantom like figure then has his wicked way with the girls.

I have been alive long enough to see many of my teen heroes pass on and leave us with a legacy of unforgettable music and performance. Sadly I have also seen many of my Teen idols go the Gary Glitter way too... while part of me wants to feel bad for them, what they have done to innocent children is so disgusting and unforgivable they ruined any chance for us to 'remember the good times'. I understand it is a sickness and becomes a compulsion or addiction but every human being is responsible for the choices they make... Glitter travelled the world as a child sex tourist being caught, imprisoned, expelled and last I heard he was running out of places to hide. What we must agree is that nobody should ever try to excuse or explain away his behaviour... we can leave the psychology and pathology to specialists and keep our distance.

17:44 there's another vid on this channel where he said he paid 40 pounds so... I don't know about this guy. :D
And that guy who went to fetch girls for Gary from the audience? - I'd say he's guilty too. Him trying to rationalize picking out lambs for the slaughter as "you can only choose from what's available" was prob the most vile thing in this vid. I know it was the 70s and there were countless celebs (musicians) with underage girls. But it doesn't make it alright and it certainly doesn't excuse being a skeevy kiddie pimp.
I love the music - simple throbbing beat. Energy music. But let's face it - he did everything possible to continue marketing himself to minors: the whole Glitter persona, that circus fiasco, "How to Be Cool"??? Must've been lean times for The Who as well.
Thanks for the interesting content. :)

Whenever someone has absolutely nothing left, they cover House Of The Rising Sun. This guy is the best Euro trash. I love the picture when he got out of jail in Vietnam and he’s flashing a peace sign while wearing a headband like he’s actually trying to keep up his image. Show business is ridiculous.
That said, they play Rock And Roll during the intermission of every sporting even in The United States, so there’s that debt. It’s driven and catchy.
