  • How to carve a spork with a BK62 Becker Kephart Knife. The BK62 is a masterpiece akin to knife-art. As a utility knife, the BK62 Becker Kephart knife is excellent for anything from cutting leather to fine carving. I believe Horace Kephart would have designed this knife, the BK62, now called the Becker Kephart knife, around carving and utility use, and the BK62 is an amalgamation of all the specifications a woodsman could need.
Thank you so much to Marine SHTF who has sent this knife all the way from the US, remember to check out his channel here:

All the way from North Carolina, still amazing to see it being used abroad in Africa!
Definitely one of the best Bk62 reviews , Mr. Kephart would be proud 🥲.

A good kephart knife is near perfect in my book. Unfortunately, that bk kephart has really thin scales .
I think the Ontario Sk5 Blackbird is one of the best kephart blades out there . Although I did purchase a Brisa Kephart knife blank and made my own handle, which is now my favorite knife this year.

Those are great knives. A dangler would help with keeping the knife out of the way. Thanks for sharing.

    Great review!
A knife is a very important tool and you can never have to many of them 😉 But what is even more important is knowing how to use them, and what kind of knife is good for what, I think you demonstrate that well here. I love the look of the Kephart design but I have never used one, was thinking of the little shorter ESEE PR4 but the BK62 is really close to the original so think it´s a good choise, if you wanna go a more traditional route that is. Hope you and your family are doing well down there in SA. Here in northern Europe things are heating up and cooling down at the same time, tension is rising and winter is coming, in other words, it´s a good thing to be prepared.
Thanks for the video and take care 🙂

Hi Pierre, so glad you've enjoyed this video. I love trying out new knives and comparing their functions. I would actually really like to find one that covers all of the applications and makes a good EDC, this one comes close I must say. I think there is one other that may be a good option but haven't acquired one yet, the Morakniv Garberg with high Carbon steel. I think that'll be my next knife. I'll have a look at the ESEE PR4, I'm not familiar with it, thanks for the suggestion. C

Good job C. Although I prefer a scandi grind this seems like a great knife from a good design. You know you're my favorite YT girl of course. Thank you for this and all your videos. Someone please give Clarise her own TV show. Stay safe and God bless 🤗

Thanks so much! I do like a scandi grind as well. From using so many different knives I can see why it's the preference of most bushcrafters and survivalists. I think a scandi grind bites into the wood nicely for carving and you have a bit more control over how much gets taken off. Never the less a brilliant knife and one of my favourites. C

Perhaps you could use more of a bow drill method to help with the bowl of the spork, the divot used in the bow drill might get the depth you want then just fine carve it out with the tip of the knife. That may not work as well on that particular wood as its so hard, but just something that came to mind while watching lol. Either way another excellent video 👍 can't wait to see what adventure is next. God bless and stay safe!

Hi there thanks so much for the idea. I think your idea of drilling to make a bowl is a nice one and will give it a go some time. For this video I specifically wanted to see how this knife performs with these tasks so I didn't swap to a saw or different tools. Have a super week ahead, C.

To split the wood i'll use my medium fixed blade. To carve i'll use a small knife like pairing knife or carving knife or folding knife. To me it's easier to carve with thin and small one. Making a spoon/fork/spork from soft wood is easier too.
And I put a small file (saw file) in my bag that if i find any metal object i can sharpen it to function as a cutting tool or else.

Hi there, thanks so much for your comment. It's awesome how many different tools we have to create what we need. In this video I'm specifically reviewing the BK62 knife so instead of changing to different gear/knives I put this knife to the test to see how it performs. I also find the awls and saws on multitools to be very helpful for this sort of task. Thanks for watching, C.

      @@LiveReady it's a good knife tho.
I'll modify into spear head by sharpening the back tip 1-2cm long. And will sand the wooden handle to make it a bit rounder for more comfortable grip. Make a hole or two in the handle so i can put a lanyard and can attach it to a long stick to turn it a spear in case of snake etc. I can use it as a digging tool too if it's only my gear.
      Yes, can use the multitools.
I'd prefer smaller knife for carving the detail and to avoid breaking the small part of the wood.
