What the heck is Sugar/Tzu? Hidden track? Cover?
Do you think "John L" stands for John Lurie from Lounge Lizards? Very Lounge Lizards vibe.
@@dojofight I believe the L is Roman numerals for 50
@@totalgarbage2053 not entirely sure, pretty sure it's original but it's not meant to be on the album

It's black midi out there
Waiting for Adam Neely to comment "this is tight" again
Plus he’d love it more cuz the boys took a more jazzy direction this time.

I feel like their bass player doesn't get enough props, seriously technical but gnarly riffs being done on every track
Absolutely! His vocal contributions are also as formidable 👌
He walked out on stage when I saw them live and started shredding on the bass
That ain't no country boy talk. They ain't tell me about that back in Kansas. I mean, I don't know about none of that shit, boy. I just know about, uh, rustling cows and, uh, uh, you know all that, uh, family business.
Disco volante is awesome
Down here in the south we do things a little bit different

I'm just a country boy and WELP I don't know nothing about that big city living and WELP 🤠
When people say there's no good music these days, first you must call them lazy, then you must show them this performance.
Their loss
They won’t get it
Theyd call it „entartet“
@アンティオコス that's when you show them the back to the future clip "Guess you guys aren't ready for that yet…but your kids are gonna love it"
Lazy. EXACTLY. They don't want to have to FIND good music. They want to sit there like baby birds and have everything dropped into their mouths.
Know what that leads to?
The Grammy Awards.
Not that it matters, I suppose. The people who claim there's no "good music" anymore generally have the most generic, normie taste imaginable. So much as vary from a 4/4 beat and they can't wrap their heads around it.
"Uhhhhhh...what IS this? This is WEIRD."
This band really moves with a purpose
Their last record will just be audio of self felatio
moves with a *porpoise*
And it's such a purpose, what a magnificent purpose
Divine, define, he's looking to define so say so, so say so.
You cant define perfection
This band makes it feel like there's actually progression in rock music
¿Prog rock?
Well that happened like 50 years ago.
Anyone know of any other bands that are pushing rock forward?

If aloha is gearing up for an album, blink twice
get jeff rosenstock on a track with these boys, its about time the world should experience experimental ska
Hum X black midi?
So much respect for the bass player being classically in jazz trained yet still blasting Chords out on a Rickenbacker just like Lemmy. What a band, they're only going to get better
If Geordie’s suit was 8 sizes to big we would have Talking Heads on a Adderall binge
Remember how great their 1st KEXP was?
Looks like they improved
Right? Loved the first one, too. It's great to see a band evolve and improve.
Here after the 'Slow' premiere!
The bassline on Dethroned is godly.
It's alright, not god tier tho

Lógico que são, tu não tá enteirado nada sobre o underground, tanto jazz e progressivo rolando por aí. Mas de fato, Black Midi é o futuro, genial.

it’s like wiping your arse on a swans neck 😡
Hope Matt is doing well and gets back to the band soon! His presence is missed
What happened to him?
Leon Harris among other things, he dove head first into a piano and got injured
he’s taking a break from the band to work on his mental health. can only hope he’s doin alright

In 30 years I wanna be riffling through my extensive BM / BCNR record collection, and sitting in a nice comfy chair. If these guys keep inspiring each other to make cooler and cooler albums then the future is bright :)

No no, you should feel inspired by them and create more.
No matter if you don't get at their level, this isn't a race, go at your own pace and enjoy what you do.
You'll do great eventually if you put your passion on it, as these guys do.
@@miserirken yes yes yes
Was thinking exactly the same.
Haha I had the exact same thought. I'm in awe but absolutely sick with jealousy too.
Their guitarist actually isn’t that technically skilled, in the sense that I doubt he can do crazy sweeps as well as someone like Tosin Abasi(no offense to Geordie). He just has a great sense of phrasing and a very creative style of playing in general.
Interrupting ads during a performance like this are so detrimental. Going from this type of energy to a paid advertisement is heart palpitation inducing.
genuinely never been more angry. it should be illegal
Next time skip the video all the way to the end and hit "replay", the ads shouldn't be there anymore
black country new road saxophonist cameo
So this is what they meant when they said "I told you I loved you in front of black midi"
We miss you Matt. Hope you're doing okay mate.
8:09 caught me so off guard. THIS IS FUCKING AMAZING
Totally took me a few seconds to realize they were doing that live and not just playing a recording of like, saloon noise haha
@@Jack-dk7uu Really creative
"THAT AIN'T NO COUNTRY BOY TALK!"
We are so lucky to be on this planet at the same time as this band.
It is not normal for them to play so virtuously and professionally at such a young age. They explode with talent, they really are abnormal geniuses. There are some bands that come to resemble each other but this band is completely different from the rest. This band is complexly unique.

I suspected it was your face ahah I'm not an expert of the genres, in fact I know only Slint, Shellac, Don Caballero and Uzeda for math rock (plus some underground bands), but I'll check for sure. Thanks!
Dethroned tho 🤯 so hype for this new album
i hope matt returns soon, but his absence really shows how competent geordie is on the guitar. he really kills it here.
This whole transformation is a weird silver lining. I think his absence first led them to employ sax and keys, and that grew out into what's happening here. It's kind of hard to picture him in this situation.
@@jermyhopkisn9654 yeah i think you might be right, the old songs will be weird without him tho
@@shanebywater6628 I've been to a couple of the recent shows without him and the old songs still work, they just have a little less depth to them and they can't play the ones where Matt leads. I think the fact he has 5 musicians filling in for him shows how much flavour his noisy guitar was adding. I hope he comes back and is doing well, but I also love this new sound.

as if the first Kexp performance wasn’t enough. they kinda broke through via kexp, very excited to see the follow-up, not sure why i didn’t expect one. gonna wait til the album’s out to watch this though, don’t wanna spoil anything else from the record.

Geordie channeling his inner Fripp and Belew at once.

Ay, Lewis is there. Nice.
Imagine if Issac were just clapping in the background
Just saw them last night in Milwaukee! AWESOME show! These guys know how to entertain! And they are VIRTUOSOS of their instruments--all of them. Cameron was really in a peak performance: getting the moshers revved up and going with "Near DT, MI" and his incredible bass and acoustic guitar play, while keyboardist Seth Evans put in the most dynamic keyboard performance I have EVER seen! Also, the addition of ubiquitous saxophone play--courtesy of the awesome Kaidi Akinnibi--was a big boon! Meanwhile, drummer Morgan Simpson spread his light while Geordie astonished with the ease with which he made his VERY complex guitar and singing performance go. And he's such a clown-like showman! MEGA KUDOS, Geordie! And cheers to Matt Kwasniewski-Kelvin--hope you're getting stronger!
Melon better have this style of interview coming up with these guys.
at this rate he's gonna get it next week or sumn

BLACK MIDI X KEXP AGAIN LETS GOOO
came back here to listen to their first time performing sugar/tzu after Hellfire release. crazy how a year ago I was listening to this waiting for Hellfire and now Im listening to Hellfire watching this
How the hell they have managed to make such a massive step up in so many aspects of their music from where they already were at beforehand is a mystery to me. I'm really excited for the album.
Aaron Paul is a pretty good trombone player I hope he stays in the band
why badger plays sax if he was guitarrist?
Glad to see that Pinkman got a happy ending!
