Hashtag United are a one-of-a-kind football and esports club, based in Essex, England. Formed in 2016 by Spencer Owen as a group of mates playing exhibition games, we now play in the 7th tier of English football, the Isthmian League Premier Division. We won our league in our first season in non-league football and were looking good for a second promotion when the 2019/20 season was voided, but after the 2020/21 season went the same way with us top of the Essex Senior League, we were eventually awarded promotion based on PPG over the two part seasons. In 2023 we won the Isthmian League North and will now play in the Isthmian Premier!
We merged with AFC Basildon Women in summer 2020 and formed our women's team, Hashtag United FC Women, who play in the 3rd tier of women's football, the FA Women's National League Southern Premier Division, after they also won their league in 2023. We also now have 40+ youth teams, reserve and development teams, an inclusive team and a walking football team...plus our esports team who play FIFA at the world's highest level. Yknow what, that is a phenomenal performance when you consider the levels of the clubs and how brief an existence Hashtag have had. Something to be proud of that
Sorta but saying it's a level 4 vs level 7 side is a bit misleading. Colchester fighting relegation so they're more of an in between of level 4/5 vs a mid table level 7 side

Their first goal was defo a high foot free kick, especially with the one he gave them in the 95th minute! Loved the commentary excitement in the last minute 🙌🏻
I really like how Luke played, he was fairly isolated, yet bit whole game. Got to be proud of such persistance and mentality.

Hashtag really neeeds a stadium like this, the viewing angle and experience is on a whole different level when the cameras are further up. This was so beautiful to watch. Maybe this is possible with a crane like contraption without having to splurge as much but I need this experience weekly. 😢
Not sure it's realistic hashtag will have a 10,000 seater any time, would take decades and very rich people

It's not realistic with average attendances as things stand.
Maybe a higher camera gantry would be good though.
If they get East Thurrock's old ground, and Romford move to Rush Green, then it's possible.
Rookery Hill is ideal for the 'Tags in many ways, not as if West Ham United can't use the Community Pitch for some games or take the U23s and Girls Teams 'on the road' next season to Hornchurch, Dagenham etc.

This is up there with that miracle FA Cup run a few years ago as the best match the club has ever played. You guys went toe to toe with luteral professionals for 97 minutes.

Cant believe I’m watching Matt Jay play against the team I watched on TH-cam go from just mates playing to semi pro, I’m an exeter fan, Matt Jay was an academy graduate who was just a bench player, at a push, until one season he just switched on n from there has made himself a club legend, captaining us to league 1 and scoring the goal to take us there vs barrow. What a guy, what a sport.
Zarate kid now seems so long ago but look how far we’ve come
what a feeling it must be to see a team you created a few years ago playing competitvely at Colchester
So proud of this team and everything the club has been able to accomplish. Seb, Spencer, and everyone who has been involved with the club deserve a massive round of applause for bringing something new to the footballing world, while also shining a spotlight on non-league football. Up the tags!!!!

One random cool thing I thought watching this was the camera angle. Compared to being a few feet off the ground for most road games to being up in almost a gantry in the big stadium, just awesome.

Having watched Hashtag from the first season as a proper football club, just being involved in the match at Layer Road or the Job Serve (whatever it’s called now) is a huge achievement and a great moment and I hope a taste of things to come in the future.
Ex Bradford City keeper in goal in Sam Hornby and Matt Jay in a competitive fixture v Hashtag United names I’m very familiar with following a League 2 club.
But best of all Hashtag were in the game from start to finish. 6 players in the first team squad is as good as playing a first team. If Man City had put out the equivalent against Colchester United, you’re still going to expect a comfortable win for Man City and Hashtag competed well.
Really great to watch a match like this and pleased for everyone involved. Team did a great job but that EFL quality won out as to be expected.
Greg also played for my team, Pompey before he had to be sold to cut wage bill. And, so too did Jay Min - WHAT A GAME: on edge of my seat in Woodstock, NY. Incredible stuff, against a professional team

I'd also mention the ref called a foul in their box for a lower boot than what they scored their first with. If anything theirs was much more dangerous but did ourselves proud either way.
Came here to say the same thing, outrageous "high foot" decision, think there was more contact on their goal as well. Would've been interesting to see if anything had come of it but what can you do!

Wow!! A great show! Really great performance. It's very interesting to see the differences between leagues. Just to see how well they utilize the whole pitch, and make their chances count. All things tags can achieve. And the level of strength is apparent but what a great game!
The fact that they started with 6 of their 1st 11 and yet we ran them that close is a fantastic achievement. Hopefully that will serve as a great dress rehearsal for the league cup quarter final and we can progress and hopefully go to make this a trophy winning season. Up the Tags!!!
None of the starting XI v Accrington started tonight.
@nigelbaines7966 maybe not starting but all 6 were on bench atleast some came on as subs at weekend but all 6 have made multiple appearances in league 2 this season I'm a gillingham fan so have seen it first hand they may be struggling but they had lots of injurys this season same as gillingham but it's definitely a sign of respect from them to put that strong a line up out for what is basically just a semi pro standard event as pro clubs would normally put reserve sqauds
I remember Wilkinson scoring free kicks Vs Bolton for us a couple years ago (orient) mad that a player w such quality has ended up playing TH-cam teams

Yeah was a great assist to be fair. What I meant by that was he did two off the ball challenges first half on Pedro, both which could/should have easily been a yellow, but controversially received no card at all. He ended up getting booked in 2nd half for a handball and was instantly subbed off by Col U. Not saying he's a poor player at all, just that he was struggling to handle Pedro at times.

Great performance. My opinion if you check their 1st goal at 10:07 then that's a bigger high foot than Matty Wooldridge at 24:04. Honestly surprised Spen and Sebby missed that one. Gutted for the boys. They deserved this one!!
We were looking at it from opposite side to the camera. Didn’t see it at all. On reflection could have been ruled out!

Didn't put the flag up right away because the center AR was unsure if the player flicked the ball on or not. If the player does not touch it, then the scorer would of been onside when the pass was made. Sense the other attacker touched it, it reset and the scorer was offsides do to the attacker making contact. They were just discussing to make sure they made the right call.
Great game, I’m a Colchester fan and I wasn’t too confident heading into this until I saw the first team, if we didn’t have those first team players you would of had us.
Great effort though, I also believe the pitch had a huge say in it as well not the best I’ve seen, hopefully you’ll win it next year.👍🏻👍🏻

The ref giving a high foot when the Colchester defender was stooping down is a joke considering their striker almost beheaded someone for their first goal. On a different day, that goes to penalties and it would have been fully deserved, well done lads, what a performance.
