If Danny were my 7th grade teacher, I would repeat 7th grade just to keep learning. FEELING the motions and tuning in to what I am feeling, before and during a swing, makes so much sense to me. I am a 72-year old rookie who is looking forward to spring (for the 73rd time) and looking forward to playing golf for the first time, not dreading the experience. Thank you.
I recently went through John Jacobs golf school and one thing they advise is to work out your swing issues with a six iron because it represents the middle of all of your clubs. Although I was coming across square in my swing path, I noticed I had slight push, which meant that my clubface was not square at impact. After watching this video and taking your advise to the range a couple of times, It's definitely helping me getting the ball to fly straighter. For anyone trying this, don't be surprised if you're all over the place at first, maybe even pulling the ball a little when you first start trying the exercises. After a couple of trips to the range, I can honestly say that this technique is helping me to get some feel in to my play.
I’ve only been golfing for about 3 months, literally learned 80% of my swing and over all approach to the game from your channel. Really appreciate the analogies, how fun and how easy these tutorials are too watch!! 👊🏾
Thank you Danny for all your tips that helped me to hit my driver straight rather than pushing shots right and hitting my irons with a slight draw rather than swinging over the top resulting in pulled shots to the left of target. You got me to relax my grip and start the down swing by leading with the lower body to transfer my weight. Had a great golf season thanks to you. Stay safe and healthy.
Danny I’ve been a low handicap player for 30 years but have always struggled with footwork and an over the top move leading to inconsistencies. I’ve probably heard your message a million times but never really got it until I heard you explain it. Thanks for your help. Looking forward to better golf in my 60’s.
Just throwing this out there, I have been playing golf for around 20 months now, I have never had a lesson, self taught, from taking information on and breaking the game down and watching tutorials along with filming myself I have corrected anything that was wrong, and learnt that feel is everything. The unfortunate thing is I get to play once a week, and get to the range once, I am currently of 13. Which Iam loving. And don't expect to get lower than that untill playing twice/three times a week. This time next year I will be single figures. Thankyou for sharing all your information and education us. It has reached out to me. 😉
Danny i follow alot of golf coaches on here and i like alot of what they do but nobody breaks it down as simply as you and your advice is so easy to follow..keep up the great videos!
I tried this today and yesterday at driving range. I carried out the swings without hitting balls and many people were staring / looking at me whilst I did the frisbee, ball basket swings, club on my shoulder rotations and ball throws. I then did my downswing ensuring the toe of the iron went to the left. I don't care if people watch me but I did get the impression they were interested rather than mocking me; it amuses me when people come into a range bay and proceed to hit balls without a warm up or proper practice plan. Anyway, I was swinging very well and looks like people believed I was a decent player (12 handicap), especially because I was wearing my Gleneagles Golf Club bobble hat and chill-out top. Thanks Danny.
G'day Danny, These latest videos have been transformative for me. I've been messing around with this game for too long. Working overseas, without access to teachers made the development hazardous with tips from fellow players. I found reading golf instruction my best way to learn, an example being John Jacobs' book "Golf Doctor" was useful. I remember seeing the tip about tipping the water out of the bucket elsewhere, the idea was tip one awy to draw and the opposite to fade the ball. I did get down to a 10 handicap for a few years around 50 years of age. 25 years on, my loss of distance off the tee is disappointing. Usually, the putter rescues the round. Your latest tips are returning some of the lost meters.
Just saw your video today. Coincidentally, I tried something very similar yesterday. I just completely went into my golf game with a mind set of being relaxed and visualizing the shot. And honestly, letting the club do the work. I stopped working so hard to connect with the ball and let the club just naturally connect with the ball. It definitely works. Then seeing your video today confirms what I did yesterday was not a fluke! Thanks for the videos; especially on chipping.
Throwing a bucket of water....totally blew my mind! What a great swing feeling to get back to that natural tempo and smooth out all the millions of swing thoughts floating around. Cheers!
Agree best teacher on TH-cam! I just recently stumbled on your page a few weeks ago and man the content and how simple you explain has made such a difference in my golf game approach much more fun and actual on course results! Thank you sir for doing what you do!
It's funny because last week I went for my first round in months, and I was continually slicing, especially with my long irons (no woods hit). When I got back home, I was a bit down and saw a video from another coach on this very subject. After watching the whole thing, I decided the instructions were way too complex to follow. He was going on about different foot positions and shoulder angles and the like. So I just thought; "just search for what Danny's done on the subject, or wait till he does a video." And boom! here we are, simply explained, easy to replicate, and an absolute doddle to understand. Thanks again Danny!
The more I watch and read about this wonderful game, I've realized that my biggest obstacle was staring me in the mirror everyday. We need to give our mind a simple task/goal and get out of our own way. Like most, I gave suffered from paralysis by analysis. Great stuff Danny. All the best...
Danny, What a New year present you have just given to your many avid fans and followers, an end to confusion and a return to a fun and simple way to strike the ball accurately and without the mumbo jumbo that often hinders clear thought and action. Thanks so much ! Eamonn.
I've tried these tips on the practice Danny and they've made a big difference to my swing. Throwing a bucket of water is a fantastic swing feel and keeps it so simple. Thanks Danny.
A great lesson Danny. I was struggling with my longer irons and after just a few swings am hitting them pure. The mental image of throwing the club towards the target was just the ticket. A BIG thank you
“I see said the blind man”. ... I’m your student’s twin. This video will change everything for me! I over think, I slice, I’m inconsistent and I’m static over the ball. Thanks coach!!! Keep on swinging!
Surely keeping it simple and feeling it are two of the most challenging elements for all golfers. Add to this play like a kid again and you have the full set. Smashed it again Danny!
Had a hit and miss round yesterday, struggled particularly with left-right shape. Watched the video last night and went back today with great results. Drew irons and driver had only a slight amount of fade - thanks Danny keep up the great content 👍
I use that approach on putting. I set up the putter behind ball as perfect as I can do it, then I only focus on the target and do the swing. Improved my putting vastly. On irons and woods I am still overthinking. But I will definitely try the feel approach on the club head because I am seriously guilty of slicing. Once again a brilliant video of yours Danny. Thank you for your detailed and still easy to follow instruction videos.
I picked up on this on an earlier video you did. I got my lad doing this and it works well for him. I think us amateurs all go through the paralysis by analysis at some point. Thanks, Danny!
Danny - loving all your content. Shot a PB today. 75!!!! All from two things...swinging from the feet (using the jam jar and the murshun!) and confident putting. Thank you!.
Excellent advice sir! I think you represent a new breed of golf instructor that focuses less on mechanics/positions and more on focusing on a target and instinctive body motions and tasks like throwing water. Shawn Clement offers identical advice. Love both your channels as they’ve both transformed my game and made playing golf fun again.
Love to see you and Marcus meet up two completely different thinkers, with different albeit similar teaching methods. This was really simple and slick. Well done Danny.
This is great advice, I wish I’d had the benefit of it before. I used to get stuck over the ball with only really my arms/upper body swinging. When I started to kick off the downswing through my trail foot (using the ground) I started to turn more. Having a target to “throw” at like the bucket enabled me to turn even more.
Hey Danny, within the first 10 seconds I thought you were talking to Joe & not John but my handicap is probably a little higher. This fits me to a tee, (no pun intended ). I can't hit a draw with a pencil & I asked you about 2 weeks ago in your video on how to set up with your fairway wood but I still kill the ground first. I don't know what you said different this time but a giant bell just clobbered me upside the head. I am hitting a little draw but not far at all so I just signed up for a block of 4 lessons for the first time ever & I'm 61. I quit golfing 20 years ago after I lost 2 1/2 fingers on my right hand. I have a thumb & index, 1/2 a middle so I do throw a club every now & again. Danny I wish you were my neighbor instead of my across the pond neighbor because I need help bad & you are PERFECT teacher that I can relate to. Thank you very much for your videos & keep them coming. Joe B in Indiana
This was awesome! I was struggling with fades and slices just becoming worse for everytime I played. This made so much sense! I had totally forgotten about throwing the club! My arms was also very tense like I was trying too hard. By throwing the club it was so much easier to get the in to out swing as well! It just took me about 100 shots to get comfortable with this. Thank you very much sir! I'm so looking forward to the season start now!
My hubby has this issue. He stopped taking practice swings and just steps up to the ball now. He would say "I wish I could just shut off my brain, then I'd be really good!!" hahaha I will definitely share this video with him and practice this myself! Thank you Danny!
funny, we do have a brain that seeks a formula so we can remember how to do it again.... Once we remember that there is nothing to remember it will all click into place
Love the simple flowing action. It makes sense and will stop me having the myriad of swing thoughts which is ruining my game. Hopefully will work when I play at lunchtime
This (eyes closed) drill actually feeds back just where the club head is oriented. Right now here is Seattle, the weather sucks big time. So, to the basement I've gone...where my sticks are anyway. I have the room to swing in a horizontally as you demonstrated. Most driving ranges have overhead heating. So tomorrow after football off I go> Thanks Danny, see ya soon
You're so right about kids playing. They don't think about it. They just do it. My brain is my worst enemy, so definitely going to put this idea into practice. Thank you.
Progress report, it works after the fifth shot and I feel great like playing golf, not try to do 10 things in 1 second just to hit that stupid ball. Best advice for my 15 years.
Great philosophy Danny. I've improved so much by just learning to 'feel' the swing without even hitting a ball. Just being able to brush the sod (pun intended) in the same spot, or take a shallow divot, instills more confidence in my swing. This means that I don't over-think it when the ball's in front of me. Do Brits ever say "What the sod"?
Love the intense introductions from almost all your videos! I get this instant infusion of energy and makes me want to throw a chair at something or wrestle a bear. 🤣 Should take that energy to the range. Keep up the awesome videos, recent subscriber here and been watching tons of your content lately.
sensible stuff .... i find when i think about everything i am wayward ..when i just stick to a couple of basics the swing happens naturally (ok its less wayward but you know what I mean!) .... trying to block out a million and one things that you have heard/seen/practiced isnt easy though ... but i know it wokrs...another excellent video ... best on t'web
Brilliant. Thanks Danny, been thinking about trying to force a draw as a method of fixing a regular slice and therefore good to hear you endorsing that option. Here's a thing... I am hitting with the toe of the club too often. ?
rayh72 that’s ok try this same exercise and try and see if you can feel the club head striking the heel instead. Once you’ve done this see if you can move the strike from the heel to the centre
I think it changes each time I play, there's never a formula. What I would say is I do visualise the shot flying exactly how I want to the target each time.
Great video Danny. Would be good if you filmed one of your lessons, especially with a mid to high handicapper so we could see the improvement . Keep up the great work. Always look forward to your weekly videos.
My best swing is thinking about the takeaway and then about the same point after hitting the ball so that my downswing is about getting to that point, exactly as you say Danny.
Great lesson. Your image of bucket of water or throwing the ball is effective because the hands/arms/body are relaxed. Problem comes when I pick up the club. I know too often the hands are probably too tight, which produces tight wrists/arms/body and therefore no feel of the club head, which seem to be getting lighter and lighter. Can I change? Try as I do...Nope. The other observation is that from experience, it's easier to hit great shots at a range with wide boundaries, but transfer that to a tee/fairway when I'm faced with water hazard/narrow tree lined fairway and that's different. Yes I know at the range or indoor studio, "let's pick a target and swing", but "live" on the Course, that's for real.
My client this morning tried to relax but couldn't. You can't try and relax and swing freely you have to take on a different philosophy a different identity. I asked my client to act like a child, how would they approach this shot? for the next few balls humour me by having fun and approaching the shot with the innocence of a child. The result a powerful free flowing swing... scary? absolutely. But the difference and exhilaration it gave my client was incredible. He then knew he had put so much emphasis on control and by doing so he not only lost distance but he lost the control he was going after
The target idea works with the slice (squaring the face), not just the overall swing. Don't just use the target for your swing axis, but also for your face angle (left right). What's really annoying now is that I have no default wrist position. I have to consciously rotate my wrists to the proper location. With the driver, being just a little bit off will either cause a slice or hook. But a lot of slicers would be happy to see a hook every now and then. With irons, it's a lot easier.
If Danny were my 7th grade teacher, I would repeat 7th grade just to keep learning. FEELING the motions and tuning in to what I am feeling, before and during a swing, makes so much sense to me. Very good lesson, love the fact it’s on feel and not mechanics. I really struggle with feel so gonna give this a good go
I think as adults we often seek out mechanics and understanding but the the key skill we need is the skill of speaking the bodies language

My pleasure Chad, thank you
Great video Danny, shared with some mates who struggle with a fade and swinging looser.
Jeff Arris cool thank you
Great feeing lesson Danny 👍
Mark Uglow thank you 🙏
Great philosophy Danny.
Gerry Waneck my wife told me off this one 😁
@@DanielMaude You're an instructor. You just taught me a new word meaning haha.
Love the intense introductions from almost all your videos! I get this instant infusion of energy and makes me want to throw a chair at something or wrestle a bear. 🤣 Should take that energy to the range.
Keep up the awesome videos, recent subscriber here and been watching tons of your content lately.
love this comment, made me chuckle
Comment of the day!
The first few seconds of every Danny Maude video. 😁 Please keep up the intensity brother! th-cam.com/video/iL1XEPJL4ps/w-d-xo.html
Another great teaching video. You make it look so easy to do . Any chance of some coaching tips on putting please Danny?
Yes, I would like to do a full series
Great vlog Danny! Something we don’t really think about. What would the feeling be for someone who hooks the ball (like me)?
Simply reverse the exercise and see if you can feel the club swinging to the left of the target are feel the face open
well explained as always!love your vids
Thank you appreciate the support
Yes start slow and short then increase speed an distance anyher great one Danny👍👍👍👍👍👍
1WEEBLE1 thanks as always for your support 👍
sensible stuff .... i find when i think about everything i am wayward ..when i just stick to a couple of basics the swing happens naturally (ok its less wayward but you know what I mean!) .... trying to block out a million and one things that you have heard/seen/practiced isnt easy though ... but i know it wokrs...another excellent video ... best on t'web
Gordon Kinghorn thank you Gordon, yes it takes time to improve concentration...stick with it you will get there
Clubface control... Awesome Danny!
Happy New Year!
Francis Chiew happy new year Frank, all the best to you and your wife
I love the feel approach instead of biomechanic.
I certainly think it helps you own your own golf swing
for more detail on this approach, read How to feel a real golf swing by Toski and Davis Love
Tom Shanahan we all think too much sometimes
This philosophy works with putting as well great stuff
It does indeed, thanks for taking the time to comment
Great video, less thoughts and more fun. I had fallen into over thinking everything in my swing. Just be an athlete and keep it simple. Thanks
Absolutely Jim, keeping it simple will really help your feel
Excellent video. When you are playing do you personally just think about the club face position at impact or do you have another thought?
All the best
I think it changes each time I play, there's never a formula. What I would say is I do visualise the shot flying exactly how I want to the target each time.
Amazing video, I liked the reference about how kids play :) lovely
Great video Danny
Thank you, hope it helps you play better golf and enjoy the game even more
Hi I just wanted to thank you, you made a suggestion on how to reposition your body when using your driver, I did it and it worked amazingly.
Fantastic! Great to hear Phil
Excellent as always. Thank you
Thanks for all the support Bob
Great video Danny. Would be good if you filmed one of your lessons, especially with a mid to high handicapper so we could see the improvement .
Keep up the great work. Always look forward to your weekly videos.
Stuart Cowper thank you Stuart, yes I’m looking into this right now...also need to buy more cameras and audio equipment to make it really work
Great, give me a shout if you need your first victim!! Currently a 19 handicap but playing to about 24+ at the moment!
Excellent advice Danny. Thank you.
Lourens Van Niekerk many thanks appreciate the feedback
My best swing is thinking about the takeaway and then about the same point after hitting the ball so that my downswing is about getting to that point, exactly as you say Danny.
Great to hear Anthony, all the best
He then knew he had put so much emphasis on control and by doing so he not only lost distance but he lost the control he was going after
I'm going to try this tomorrow. Thanks I think
Hope it went well Carlton?
@@DanielMaude working on it. Something is still missing. Probably skill.
The best ideas are simple, its all about back to basics, so we can go forward 🏌️♂️
Absolutely Philip, 😁
The target idea works with the slice (squaring the face), not just the overall swing. Don't just use the target for your swing axis, but also for your face angle (left right). What's really annoying now is that I have no default wrist position. I have to consciously rotate my wrists to the proper location. With the driver, being just a little bit off will either cause a slice or hook. But a lot of slicers would be happy to see a hook every now and then. With irons, it's a lot easier.
AlienRenders thanks for taking the time to share your results...really helpful
as always great lesson
Thank you Larry, hope you had a good weekend
My dream scenario to have a golf instructor like Danny teach me.
Thanks Lou appreciate the support 👍
Brilliant Danny pal.Love it ❤️👍
Thank you William, I was concerned this may cue too simple
