      @@Galaxy_Alex2023 as aragorn is a ranger and a friend of gandalf, he was told by gandalf to guard the shire and outskirts of Bree with the other dunadans/ rangers. he was also told to specifically look for frodo by gandalf while the wizard was himself away on a mission. this isn't shown clearly in the movies as to how aragorn happened to be in the prancing pony at the same time as frodo but the books make it clear that aragorn was a friend of gandalf and was looking for frodo.

    Aragorn is such a great character. If Frodo is the everyman, Aragorn is the fully realized hero. He is strong, brave, ready to lead, willing to listen to his peers and to acknowledge criticism. I like how Aragorn, when he grabs Frodo, he somewhat looks like one of the Nazgul, with that black hood, and then when Frodo asks him "what are they", he turns his head, with the scream in the distance, that also looks like it's coming from within, suggesting that he has some inner demons, maybe that he's struggling not to become one of these damned kings. Later he becomes real king. Epic stuff.

    I think it's kind of fascinating that orcs used to be elves and the ringwraiths used to be humans. Just imagine what they must have gone through to end up like that...

    • @TheThoughtAssassin
      @TheThoughtAssassin 11 ปีที่แล้ว +95

      It's actually debated whether or not Orcs were once elves. Tolkien himself had actually wanted that piece of information taken out, yet his son Christopher had it included. The consensus amongst Tolkien historians was that Orcs were just twisted parodies of the elves created by Melkor; Melkor then spread the idea that they were once elves to drive fear into his enemies at the time.

    • @TheThoughtAssassin
      @TheThoughtAssassin 10 ปีที่แล้ว +18

      Bernd Horn He's the only one able to create life with free-will, such as the elves and men. The orcs don't have free will, though. All they know how to do is destroy and make warfare; they're unable to create or grow or break free of their chains.

    • @berndhorn4188
      @berndhorn4188 10 ปีที่แล้ว +14

      TheThoughtAssassin
      no no no. They have a free will and have their own leaders like the ones from the misty mountains which battled the dwarves for centuries (azog, or the leader of the pack in moria in lord of the rings 1, the book) they are even loyal to him. and they even build up own societies and cities, its stated they took a capital in the misty mountains which ones belonged to the dwarves, which induced this special hate between orcs and dwarves, and cause they live both in holes. They have a free will but are easy to manipulated. but so are the humans. They also fought for sauron. So either melkor could create life with free will, or he just changed the elves which seems more realistic. He later on even mixed them with humans to get some uruks, so who knows

    • @TheThoughtAssassin
      @TheThoughtAssassin 10 ปีที่แล้ว +23

      They weren't even close to the wisdom of elves and men. Tolkien's definition of "free will" didn't necessarily mean the ability make simple choices, but the ability to be free of a master or controller. The Goblins were always subservient to either Melkor or Sauron, and their "cities" were crudely constructed slums. They couldn't create art or literature; they couldn't love or feel "human" emotions like the elves, dwarves, and men can. Here's a quote on the matter:
      "According to the oldest "theory" proposed by J.R.R. Tolkien (found in The Fall of Gondolin, from The Book of Lost Tales, circa 1917 - the first tale of Middle-earth to be written in full), Orcs were made of slime through the sorcery of Morgoth: "bred from the heats and slimes of the earth".[29] However, it is consistently stated in Tolkien's other writings, with regard to his creation myth, that only Eru Ilúvatar (God) can create new life from nothing. Therefore, by whatever means the orcs came into being, it is certain that either they were "descended" from other beings or a deliberate manifestation of Ilúvatar's thought."
      It's the idea that Morgoth created a twisted parody of the elves, but completely lacking what made them beautiful and wise. I'm not saying that they absolutely didn't come from corrupted elves, but that this "theory" is the most prevailing school of thought.

      porpus99 And because of his stupidity Frodo got stabbed by a Morgul Blade. If he had managed to deliver Gandalf's letter, Frodo would have left before the Nazgul got the order to hunt him, so everything would have been fine. Butterbur was one of the guys who made everything worse.

      Keylorie He’s a busy man, and he did tried to send that message, but theres no one willing to take it to the Shire. Also, unlike in the movie, he actually stood guard as best as he could against the Nazgul(who instead of entering the inn openly burst through the windows of Frodo’s rooms), and continue helping the Hobbits even if that means defying Mordor.

      It was much different in the novel. The Black Riders don't storm the town or attack the inn, they instead wait in the shadows the whole time. When they hear about Frodo's "accident" from spies that were in the inn at the time, they hire some thugs to sneak into the bedroom that the hobbits were booked for, ransack the beds (which had decoys placed inside them), and then climb out through the windows before anyone sees them. One of them also steals a horse from the stables and causes all the other animals (including the ponies the hobbits had) to run loose across the countryside, forcing the group to buy Bill the Pony.
