@@DmDrae there are a bunch of scenes and lines of dialogue in the extended that feel forced in, like when Sam reassures Frodo that they will get "there and back again", that's the same level of writing as "it's Morbin' time" but without a pinch of irony
If I recall correctly Gandalf wasn't against going through Moria in the book. He wasn't thrilled, but not "I'd rather fall off the mountain than go into that beer hall from hell". The sense of dread though when the doors open... goosebumps to this day. No one knew what had happened to the dwarves from Balin's expedition and there was no way to check. In the end the dwarves all died horrible deaths in darkness. The western gate was blocked by the Watcher in the Water and the eastern gate was overrun by orcs, meaning the dwarves were trapped in Moria with an army of orcs and a Balrog, forced to make a hopeless last stand.
Perhaps Boromir is being selfish trying to leave the mountains for a route closer to Gondor, though he seems genuinely concerned for the welfare of the hobbits.
Boromir was genuinely a good person. However, he was the most vulnerable to the ring's influence, being human and having certain traits the ring could take advantage of (loyalty to his people and the worry that his country will fall to the armies of Mordor). Even then, he was able to fight its influence for a long while, such as when he was able to resist the ring's first attempt to corrupt him and give it back to Frodo on the mountain. He created a genuine connection with the Hobbits, which is why he defended them later on and scarified himself trying to save their lives.
For real. They talk about the elves fading away but it seems the dwarfs are sleepwalking into extinction in a worse way like theyre forgetting what they were and are becoming mindless miners
The door was built before Sauron fell the first time. It was used, mostly by elves or those going to see elves, during the brief period of friendship between the dwarves and elves that existed during the first great alliance against Sauron. Elves had indeed not visited Moria in a very long time, and the door may have been unused for more than a thousand years.
Yes, they are equivallents of an angel and a fallen angel (demon). But powers in Tolkien's lore dont work like Dragon Ball Z. Balrogs were the most feared servants of The Dark since Morgoth's age and responsible for a lot of terror and death. A bunch of mighty warriors and heroes were slained by them. Almost every epic duel between a epic hero and a balrog ends up with both dead. Same thing happens here with Gabdalf. Both of them die. And Gandalf fears him becouse he knows what they are capable of. Yeah. He could live and even defeat him at a great cost: but what if he leaves the mountain and starts to roam on Middle Earth again? Worst: what if he joins Sauron? What if he kills a lot of members of the fellowship before Gabdalf is finally able to take him down?
