At this time of Covid seclusion, the Singer's competitors (and all the Chinese people) were limited to travel. HuaHua, Tia and another singer performed from a small studio in Beijing, Charlie was in his room in Shanghai, Misia was in Japan, and two other performers were in Taïwan. In further episodes they could perform in the actual Singer's venue with online audience, then for the final episode, a limited audience was admitted with an empty seat in between each other.
Actually, this is an acoustic rearrangement of Hua Chenyu’s song Codename Contra 代号魂斗罗 which he was challenged to write in 24 hours in the Chinese show The Next 天籁之音 Season 2 Episode 6. The show pits amateur singers against professional singers who later mentor the remaining participants in the later stages. In that show, the audience (or selected viewers - I am not sure) chose the BGM music from the Japanese video game for him to write a song to and his challenger picked the genre which was rock.
I do like his Codename Contra original song, but i love Contra in the Wild. A clear favourite with all its references to both movie and music history. Blondie riding into the sunset….
