Interesting history on “Auld Reekie”! Thanks Gordon!
I have heard regarding waste dumping out the window, why gentlemen accompanying the Ladies always walked on the outside of the streets, so as no 5:36 t to let it fall on their companion!😮

Hadn't heard that, Michele, but it makes some sort of sense. Pity the poor gentleman who gets the contents of the chamber pot on his head! Kind regards, Gordon

I really enjoyed the information on Scotland’s capital city of Edinburgh. I had heard a little bit of it during my trips there from tour guides, etc. It’s just so interesting about how different it was then to what it is now yet still so similar on layout of the city. Thank you for the video.

I like the way you referred to Edinburgh's scurrilous past. I live in Texas and we have a similar adoration of our past, good and bad. There is a story of my great, great, great grandfather being a horse trader with the James boys, outlaws of the old west, back in the day. Is there a similar adoration of this sort of thing in Scotland?

      Absolutely, Brian!
Very much in vogue here in Scotland just now, a romantic view of the past!
But as we know, 'distance lends enchantment to the view!'
I doubt whether people living today in Texas, or in Scotland, would be happy with the antics of the wild west cowboys, or the marauding Scottish clans! Kind regards, Gordon

not an uncommon problem in fortified cities across Europe. I wonder though - if tenements were built as high as ten stories, did they ever collapse? If not, the quality of the construction must have been amazing for the time.

Yes, Dorte, many of them are still standing today. I think being constructed of stone would help. Scottish stonemasons were highly regarded for their skills. Kind regards, Gordon

Some enterprising Scotsman should have engineered a way to pipe their waste to London.

I think a simple efficient sanitary system would have sufficed, Guillermo! Kind regards, Gordon

    Interesting !
Even London was not so nice back then either !
    I understand back then, London
was one of the MOST polluted cities in the world !
If not the most polluted !

Yes, Mike, I suppose many large cities in those days would be pretty grim! Kind regards, Gordon
