Being a Polestar 2 owner (not PP, no green hell in my neighborhood) with 17k km driven and engineer who requested a summer tire video this winter. I must say this video is just Misha going overboard in a glorious nerdy way! Much more than I was hoping for! Love it! Can vouch for that it's fun in arctic winter, the 50/50 power distribution feels like rear wheel bias on snow... 😆
I have seen so many "major" youtubers complain about the stiffness of the Polestar 2 performance, shame they didn t read the manual and adjusted the dampers (knowing there are 22 clicks available must mean there is so much adjustability). Great job they didnt save money on such important components as brakes and suspension. Big thumbs up.
Tbh, as much as fun the idea of manually clicking the suspension I wish the damper adjustment is more accessible either through electronics or just removing some interior / frunk panels. I wish it was easy to the point where I can easily change them at home or even the hotel parking the morning before some fun driving and then set them back when you're done for the ride back home.
Misha, really enjoying these videos. It would have been really interesting if you could also take a non-PP Polestar 2 onto the ring and describe how different it feels to the version with the performance pack. I think even without the PP it will work quite well on the Nürburgring.
Thanks for asking the questions and checking how "special" this polestar 2 was compared to what we can all buy. Again great that Polestar are attempting to give performance options and think about enjoyable driving. The manually adjustable dampers are an interesting choice from factory, but I see that your taxi and rental cars use manually adjustable suspension too. In the UK the performance pack adds £5000 to the cost - how does this cost compare to the components on the Cupra or the other Apex cars ?
I think if another brand (A**I) doesn't learn from this series of videos, they won't learn anymore. There are ways to showcase what a car can do, and ways to show how a car can improve with some little adjustments. Or just showing a car can help to bring joy and hope for people in need
Speaking about regen braking here's the thing people forget: for regen to work the electricity needs somewhere to go, and you sure as hell can't just dump that into the ether. Hence if your battery is full or not in a compliant state, or say if there's a electronic/electric/mechanical failure which prevents electricity from flowing into the battery properly you lose regen.
and this car, even with 100% SoC, does not disable the one pedal driving mode, it just uses the friction brakes so the driver doesn't need to relearn how the regen changes with SoC. The car does it for you.
I don't specifically know about Ohlins for cars, but for motorcycles they offer both remote mechanical and electronic adjustment options, with the latter being computer controlled. So there should really be no need to have to go under the car to make adjustments, and potentially they could be made while driving. So there was probably a cost consideration involved here, but on the plus side I expect you can get remote adjusters as an aftermarket option from Ohlins.
Er is iets geheimzinnigs aan deze Polestar2, motorkap blijft dicht, kofferklep blijft dicht, onderkant glad en Joachim laat ook niet het achterste van zijn tong zien, maar wel leuk deze video!
Here in the US (Colorado specifically) some of the public roads are really hard on my back at 8/8, so after some testing, I've settled on 12 clicks for the front and 15 on the back - it's not quite as tight as I would like, but my back is much happier! I have a chance to take it to the track next month though so I'll be going much tighter that day! I will say though that when I tested the car with all four corners at 20, it was *incredibly* fun on unpaved roads. POLESTAR RALLY :D
Tesla don't think the brakes simple like Polestar. It seems they have a 1000 hp car with a 500 hp brake. It reminds me of the old US muscle cars with 4 drum brakes.
Ha! I asked about this the other day, good stuff. However, I don't think you touched on the staggered wheel widths (unless I missed it?). The front wheels are 8", rears are 9", but the tires are the same. I'm guessing it's to stiffen the rear tires' sidewalls, but I've been curious about the "official" reason.
@@mgcharoudin ok then i was a bit wrong thaut it was aso polestar 2 so sorry mischa! i´am still planning to come to the ring and have a nice easy round on it as you the talked in a video a year ago i think maybe with a pancake on board then and a really nice and kind person and the owner of pancake ;) still planning since 3 - 4 years now but in beetween i got marryd on the 02.09.2021 so i decided to leave the ring planning beside and planning it for the next 3-4 years or next year maybe ;)
Can someone explain to me this 1) Is Polestar still apart of Volvo and if not why did they leave 2) Will Polestar still do performance upgrades for Volvo Lastly 3) Polestar 1 being 140K pounds shouldn't they cars have more power for the price? Just curious
Polestar is going to merge with Gores Guggenheim so thats going to be interesting. You can use all current Volvo service stations for Polestar. Polestar EV tech is shared with Volvo, but there is no "polestar performance division" like before EV branding. Volvo is working on a new performance division, dunno the name of it though.
Volvo and Polestar share a lot of the same personnel. Polestar will move to distinguish itself some from Volvo but you can tell they're relatives. Volvo owns 45 percent of Volvo but the whole ownership think I think is overblown. How much do they share with Volvo? A lot. Geely? They used Geely to finance and some Geely factories to build while also some Volvo factories to build. Will there still be Polestar Volvos? I hope so. Polestar 1 is now history as it is no longer sold. It's now on to Polestar, 3, 4, 5.
Its a very cool car. If Misha likes a car I'll pay more attention to the video. This car is very expensive unfortunately. Edit..the polestar 2 is very affordable in the $50k range US. Might be a good lease car. Make the payments, drive it like a demon and turn it in.
A serious contender as a replacement for my M3P but it would want another 100bhp to justify the £60k price. After some more reading no car play … that’s a deal breaker. As is signing in with a google account. Shame.
To me, the engineered chassis and brakes justifies the price. Polestar is experienced at motorsports and Volvo is experienced at making solid vehicles. This vehicle is like a really well tuned Volvo. Car play will come in time.
Now you can get both Apple CarPlay and more HP with a OTA update. It's not 100 hp though, only 68. Apple CarPlay came with v2.2 and is free. The 68 HP costs $1,199 USD I think.
the "low maintenance" on EV brakes is NOT correct. they r used so little that they rust. and you often need to replace them at every inspection. and lets hope they up the towing capacity a bit. 2000kilo is a goal. and the old "polestar" stil exist. it is now CYAN ;)
I can second that. I work at a VW dealership and recently changed the rear brake discs and pads on a 2021 Golf 8 GTE (hybrid) with 5k kilometers on it, because they were severely rusted, no chance with braking the rust off. Most people that drive EVs or hybrids are economical drivers, they use regen brake alot and don't brake with the mechanical brakes. From time to time you should at least brake the rust off the discs, before it's too late.
This car is pointless for the track. It's very slow for the power output and performancce goodies it has. The engineer said it's more about the balance and that is something that doesn't really come across on video.

Besides that, EVs are TOO EXPENSIVE! I never would pay AGAIN for a EV more than 15000€, because of the price drop and the not-existing-high-tech, in comparison to a combustion engine. More than 15000-20000€ for a Body with "3 Cables", a big electric motor, a frequency converter, a joystick as throttle pedal and a stinky huge Li-Ion Battery. There is nothing expensive. Sorry! Never buy such a electric crap AGAIN. Bullshit-TEC

Fantastic video with such useful video! Well done @polestarcars for being so hands on too!

Half expecting Jason from EE to pop out of the shadows, whiteboard in hand halfway through the video.
I was watching the Polestar 1 video earlier and the Seatbelt not choking you really made a difference in the other video lol
I would love to see you drive an LCI M5Competition around the Nordschleifer.
Have you put the lowering springs on the polestar 2? Impressions?
Is that the midnight colour?
Brilliant video
build a performance chassis u put performance parts on it, no matter combustion or EV. doesnt get any simpler than that.
which colorway is this ?
Oh boy I want one, but they are a bit out of my budget. But then again, I would save a lot on fuel right!?!? Should I just go buy one?
Is that Midnight or was it wrapped in a different color? I'm picking up a Midnight soon and this is the best the color has looked if it is.
I would love for this to be my daily driver
Reading the caption, I thought you were doing a collab with user @Engineeringexplained :), which would have been fabulous. Good stuff anyway.
