Les Epinettes, Paris 17th arrondissement

Note: This tour was originally live streamed on Facebook while I lived in the 17th arrondissement in 2020-2021. It was an exclusive guided walk for France with Vero patrons. Fast forward to 2024: The story of les Epinettes, a lesser-known section of the arrondissement is too good not to share. I've decided to release this video publicly.

Once a humble hamlet les Epinettes lay on the outskirts of Paris. The village was incorporated to the Batignolles-Monceau neighborhood in the 1830s. In the 21st century, les Batignolles have become gentrified and trendy, yet les Epinettes remains a working-class, multi-ethnic neighborhood.

When I see chestnut trees I associate them with breweries and beergardens - so maybe the working class origins of the area are part of the match -- was there a beer - drinking constituency among the workers?
