So I should focus only on liquid or altra short term fund only? Whats the problem with gilt fund?

Navneet I would say now even liquid or ultra/low/short also don't make any sense after indexation benefit is removed.. simply do FD with sweep in (compulsorily), so that it is more liquid than liquid fund when you need it in emergency.
GILT funds are interest sensitive and cyclical if you can track interest rate cycles.. not worth all the effort I guess.

First of all create emergency fund . Then have an estimate of what will be your minimum yearly savings, divide it by 12 and you will get the amount to SIP every month. If any month no money to invest then take loan from your emergency fund and invest. When you have money pay back your emergency fund with interest😅
