    Great video! 10:38 One amendment is that the NBL Central division is not in New South Wales but in South Australia and there isn’t a specific league (WABL, Waratah, QSL or DBA) that Central would scout from more or less.

      Great addition! And yes - I realized after watching it back that I actually misspoke on that. Thanks for clarifying in comments.

    Basketball in Darwin is amazing. 5 courts going hard 7 days a week (and looking to add more courts). The weather is great and the community really support the Salties. Only problem is the travel. Salties road trips are often double and triple header weekends. Come Sunday they just want to go home.

    I played in the Waratah league for Sydney Comets back in the early 90s, for their Youth League Division 1 team. Back then there was no such thing as the NBL1, and from what I can remember there was only Youth League, then you moved up to State League Men's and the next stop was the NBL. Can't believe that was more than 30 years ago!

    •  2 หลายเดือนก่อน

      Amazing. Have you been following Aussie basketball ever since then? What do you think of the creation of the NBL1?

    • @Fuz1
      @Fuz1 2 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      I stopped following basketball for quite a while, even though I was still involved in the game as a rep coach after I stopped playing. I realised quickly that at 5'6 Youth League was my ceiling. I was the back up PG so I didn't see much court time, but still immensely proud of my self for making it to that level as an undersized guard. I ended up coaching reps for 10 years straight. Got back into watching basketball because of Patty Mills. When I heard there was an undersized Aussie PG in the NBA, I immediately began following his career and became a Spurs fan. Never did get back into following the NBL. Find it hard enough to find time to follow the NBA. My opinion on the NBL1? I think its great, the more opportunities there are for getting paid to play, the better it is for the game.

    •  2 หลายเดือนก่อน

      Definitely. The landscape of basketball here has gone through many changes over the years. Hopefully the NBL1 is here to stay.

    Played in the western region of the NBL1 recently in my 2nd year (in my 3rd year currently overseas) and everything you said about it is spot on. It’s by far the best league/ my favorite league I played in thus far in my overseas career. Would love to participate in again some day

    Good video man! I’ve been heavily involved within QSL for a number of years and I can firmly say that it’s stronger than you make it in the video.
    Probably because you haven’t seen many games from there compared to BigV/Tas league.
    I recommend you come and watch some games next season especially Gold Coast, Brisbane and Toowoomba, there a lot of potential in the young players and they’ve started taking in American imports which has proven to be a valuable asset after Caboolture did it last year.
    Keep up the good work of pushing Aussie ball ❤️

      @tap2054 2 หลายเดือนก่อน +2

      I actually ref QSL and NBL1 and have done a bit of Waratah as well. I know bigV is the best “senior league” before NBL1 but I want to put QSL right behind it.
      In QSL Division 1 there are 8 teams and the I had a game where the No 8 team only lost to No 2 by 1 point at the buzzer.
      you’ll have to judge for yourself as everyone’s opinion is different but id be happy to have a conversation of a more in depth look into Queensland basketball

    Have you had a look at the NZ NBL? Its not affilated with the Australian NBL. Its a sort of halfway point between NBL and NBL1. Similar to the NBL1, players come down from the NBL to play there but its usually a bit more high profile players who get good NBL minutes. Playing there will definitely get the attention of NBL clubs especially the Breakers.

    Hey Jose, is it worth playing in a pro league (Germany - Regionalliga 2) that doesn’t fund any expenses. I’m asking because currently I live in the states and wondering if it’s worth moving over there to play ball but no get paid for it. Would love your opinion!

  • @TheGTWood
    @TheGTWood 2 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

    Most of the Littler leagues within the individual states are Junior Leagues meaning under 10's up to under 20's then after under 20's is D-league (Development League for NBL1) then move into NBL1 or NBL.
    Between the age of 16 to 20 a lot of the Top Australian player will try out for USA tour team to get there names out there to D2,D3 and D4 US collages. Then after that they may come back to Australia or move onto Euro Teams or other USA Leagues. Australia yes from the outside has a good Basketball program (Mostly all volunteer), and are very under manned, under funded and don't have many opportunities for players or Coaches to have a career in the Sport.

    •  หลายเดือนก่อน

      Yeah - there is some definite room for improvement. Particularly I think getting players paid or getting more sponsors for these development leagues would be great (Waratah, Darwin etc.). It’s tough though with the AFL and rugby being so dominant and popular here.
