This is everything that every thinking person has been wanting to hear for over a decade. eg the DISC - how many of us got hammered at university when we tried to think for ourselves rather than follow the party line? The world needs an intellectual revolution - and each of us has to do our bit to bring it about. We don't need the institutions.

@@cannaroe1213 I dont think we all end up penniless and depressed. I had a pretty good run in a non-academic field after running into the DISC. Depression usually comes from hopelessness, and identifying the DISC is the first step towards hope for truth in public research.

When the establishment has gotten rotten and self celebrating, you better oppose it and anti is often more pro than pro, hence a true friend talks also facts when its hurting the other;)
The pea counters in science, don't want to be disturbed by counting peas
They are more related with their careers reaching smoothly their times of pension, than being curious. It's a shame how unscientific these minds are, ignoring all hints not fitting into their beloved narrative. What is scientific with such ignorance, not only in the humanities, too bad, also increasingly in hard sciences the uninspired have become an ideological group of lemmings defending their mediocrity.
No, the big era of Einsteins, Maxwell, Faraday, Tesla is over long time ago. We still enhance their true goodies, but real novelties don't come out of these emperors with no cloth, too bad.
Think its not possible real boosters of innovation come out of these vanity circles, celebrating their nothing in nothing-symposiums. It will need outsiders or dropouts to burn new stages of the human rocket, like Eric and other passion driven persons who strive for their curiosity first, not thinking of dangers but follow their erotism with the unsolved, the undiscovered which is badly missed with the pea counters inside the ivory towers.

When you first announced the Portal and said your theory was the main premise, I was extremely excited. Every time there's a new episode, I hope that it's about your theory, but it never is (although the one with Lisi gave us a taste). Eric, I am so sympathetic to the situation you describe with the DISC and could add many stories of my own. Brother, I do feel your frustration deeply both from within myself and for other academicians with similar stories to yours that I have interacted with personally. So the following comments are said with the utmost kindness and respect. (My wife personally hit me with the first point years back. She is the child of an academic as I am.) 1. Who told you that overthrowing an existing orthodoxy or paradigm would be easy? It isn't the least bit easy at the best of times. (Second point is from me directly given recent experiences.) 2. Taking another's new pet theory seriously is a process with many pitfalls. I got my PhD at a more advanced age than is usual. In my thesis, what I was able to do was to show that my advisor's long-held pet theory was wrong-headed and not worth pursuing. I am older and well set with respect to my profession and publication list, so there were no serious repercussions to the thesis. I graduated with little difficulty and no resistance from my advisor or committee. However, if I was a 20-something with my heart set on an academic or research position, my thesis would be quite undesirable. Going to a prospective (say) department and giving a lecture on the demise of one's advisor's pet theory does not impart any charisma to a talk on "what I have done recently." Hence, my gentle advise to you is... a theory that lets folks go up and down the same well trod trails of thought is not motivating to a prospective convert. Cruel as it may sound, it is up to you to find the "killer app". i.e. Find the physical phenomena that are beyond explanation without your theory. Only then will folks invest the considerable time and effort required to follow your trail. Sorry for the tough love, but I've now seen it in gory detail from both sides.

It feels great to have a guy like Eric having a greater voice. I also had learning disabilities like severe dyslexia for which I had to hack my own brain as a kid in order for me not to be considered a problematic child. Just like my father i also am on the spectrum. It's fair to say that I had my fair share of challenges, never cared about grammar, i confuse the mechanics of certain analytical tools and so on. Paradoxically I was always considered the gifted child and always had an ease to understand extremely abstract ideas. The DISC was never my friend and it won't stop me either.

Although 99% of the content in these high level conversations, between powerhouse intellectuals, goes way over my head, that 1% slow drip does seep in and it starts to add up over time.
Just listening in is, of course, no substitute for doing the real academic work required to really participate in these discussions or even comprehend them. I may never be fluent, but it definitely feels as though over time I am gaining a conversational grasp of the language, and that’s incredibly valuable to me. There are plenty of other shows doing the pop science, dumb it down for the general audience thing, which is sometimes nice as well, but crossing that line makes your show unique.

I am an old man now, but clearly much of what you said hit intellectual and emotional chords. As someone who has always been a black sheep, and too often punished for being too radical and not nearly political enough, it brought back many reflections on the dangers of new ideas I once was fired, largely because I developed a piece of software alone in 15 days, that conventional wisdom said it would take 15 people 2 years to accomplish. My success made the senior IT management look bad, and generated far too many questions from their peers. Keep up the good work; in an alternate universe we are probably friends!

When you start a new job, you see all the problems with the way the company works. If you say anything about it, the typical explanation is "you just don't understand how we do things." After a few months at the company, you 'understand' how everything is done, and you can no longer see the 'problems' you once saw before. I think this happens at every stage of life, when you are a kid, when you go to school and when you get a job etc. It never changes and seems to be about people not willing to give up their 'power' of authority.

How do you know he's on the right path, though? If you only listen to him, and know nothing about the subjects he's talking about, then you're just blindly trusting him. Why not trust any randomly chosen PhD student from anywhere in the world?

Thank you for a clear and honest reflective view of what you are trying to achieve. More times than I would like, I struggle through some of the ideas you discuss or viewpoints you and your guests present, but there is more than sufficient material to both confirm some of my own awe at the weirdness of these days and trigger my interest in digging deeper to (and many times fail) understand these "new" concepts. This is very much appreciated. Please keep it up, with one more ready to pass through The Portal, all the way from beautiful Lisboa.

I left academe after 20 odd years. It's the most rigid system we've ever built. I have hundreds of stories of how corrupt grant funding, peer review, and administrative mismanagement of research monies managed to kill meaningful work and results. Along with the ever-present diversity maxims I don't see the system as salvageable, and the crop of now specially selected faculty will further informationally contaminate the few good students most schools select...the products of a truly ruined state secondary school system. So it goes...someone down in the comments quoted Bucky Fuller about building new models...and I would argue new institutions. How to fund them would be an interesting discussion...Charter Universities?

It would then be a question of building all of the material that is somehow translationaly acreditable and transferable; such as MIT courses or coursera. That would take a lot of capital to start and substantial planning to insure or guarantee. We have the material, but have not developed it, and would take multiple groupthink conferences

Would love to see more solo episodes. I love the guests and this podcast is my favorite currently, but I think there’s also some value in truly being in the zone with nothing but your thoughts. I find with myself my best ideas manifest from solitude. Conversations between 2 people are great and provides a valuable perspective since ideas can contend with each other and create new ideas, but with solo you can dive in deeper with specific topics rather than bounce around between topics.

Love everything the Portal is about. Only critique to date: Before you say that nobody is proposing a grand unified theory, or theory of everything, you need to have checked out folks who are. ie, Thunderbolts Project and Electric View. It's time to take the electric universe theory seriously, and this podcast would be an ideal format to get one of their leading lights on record. They have no problems with demonstrable experimentation and observation, as in the stagnated world of theoretical physics. Plasma physics is hiding in plain site, were it not for the very gatekeepers that Eric laments.

The moment someone enters the portal is the moment they truly internalize that a single entity can be honestly and rigorously interpreted in multiple, conflicting ways given different starting contexts/states. Further, these contexts are usually not the result of individual growth, but rather cultural and familial programming, all of which are imposed on the individual without consent. It is painful when you enter the portal. I would imagine most people sit on the edge for a while, in massive amounts of pain. Part of you clings to the fantasy world you once knew. Another part dangles between dimensions, disoriented and grasping for anything that you can know for sure. Anything you can rely on. You come up empty-handed. It continues to be painful until you either renter the fantasy world of lies, knowingly melting into ignorance so deep you classify those thoughts as "dark" and "crazy," or you let go of the need to hold on to anything.

Considering the internal pain and discomfort Jordan was in while he was delivering his message to the world, while receiving alot of external push back, lies , slandering and misrepresenting what he was saying by the media. The man was sandwiched between pain and still managed to do what he did.....Hero is a good word for him

I'm pretty sure you already know how to Destroy 'DISC' forever and are on the path to doing it. You form a multi-disciplinary team and offer peer review in an open setting posted online for everyone to see. Your team has enough followers to bring enough value to each peer review. Every institution/company can view a persons work directly instead of placing any trust in 'DISC' and it's famous institutions. Much like Wikileaks you shine enough light on the truth and you will very quickly build up a great reputation. It takes a ton of work and the funding for a project of this size is enormous. Get it going on a shoestring budget and poke around for an angel investor that also wants to end the hegemony of 'DISC'.
