I love how they didn't understand the lyrics to ænema, then cuts right into "we're producers" not realizing that the song was partially about insignificant attributes the Californian lifestyle creates.

    • @zesticide1010

Thier right brain picked up the lyrics and brought the ideas forward to their left brains. The left brain does all the talking, what we are witnessing is their left brain rationalizing with their right, and as cringy as it appears it is a lesson all at once. "Truly think about what we are saying, and if it's not a truth then it does really need to be said." Are you really a producer, or are all the animals expected to produce? Every living thing is expected to produce, so to bring up being a producer might hold weight, it only indicates a deep personal biases to reject this song.

You guys only did the one song of each album that really got mainstream airplay. These are all actually close to the bottom on the list of great Tool songs. I was a little disappointed actually after these kids stating that they're 'in the biz' to see the lack of real listening skills, no reading between the lines. Danny Carey is quite likely the best drummer of all time, the man is just phenomenal. Try Pneuma, ticks and leeches. Also, You'll never get the time signatures on the first listen, these were the easiest ones. I first saw them in '93 and they've been my favorite band ever since, they've grown as a band musically parallel to my growth and maturing through life. It really is an experience through a life of emotions, turmoil, acceptance and transcendence of you listen through from beginning to end of the discography and some songs from a perfect circle and puscifer are part of the picture as well.

The week TOOL released all their music digitally, they unseated Taylor Swift and dominated the top 10 where almost every single song was a TOOL song. They have a very large and dedicated fanbase. Ænema is based on a comedy routine by Bill Hicks, who hated the city of Los Angeles. He thought the people were very superficial and represented America at its worst. In his routine, which is sampled in the song, Hicks talks about California falling into the ocean and creating Arizona Bay. Hence, learn to swim

    • @zesticide1010
      @zesticide1010 2 ปีที่แล้ว +3

Ænema was the song they had the hardest time digesting, it just didn't make sense. Then they immediately followed the comment of not being able to understand the song they throw in some of the Californian insignificant attribute mentioned in the joke, "we're producers." Hicks would have hit the roof.

The vocals are far back in the mix because the vocalist feels he is 1/4 of the band and no one person is more important than the other. He doesn't consider himself a " front man" or " lead singer" his voice is another instrument. It does make it harder to hear the lyrics, I agree.

Tool wouldn't approve of that behavior; they're about introspection and finding yourself. Everyone is different. People are allowed to interpret the music however they want. This album was dark, but that was tools journey as people. They have evolved over the years just like you and I have and their music have reflected those changes. Tools guitarist Adam Jones was in a band with Tom Morello from Rage Against The Machine back when they were both in high school. Maynard and Danny were once members in Bill Manspeaker’s band Green JELLÖ WITH Maynard on backing vocals. The original bassist Paul D’Amour is now in the band Ministry and The current bassist Justin Chancellor is unbelievable

Way too much talking and not enough close listening if you are pushing TOOL way way down to some of the areas you are and surrounding them with a few of the rather talentless pedestrian bands that are on this list. TOOL should be no where near that other four letter word on your list: "Kiss".

  • @Egoblivion

Come on guys that video you played for "The Pot" was for "Stinkfist." The former doesn't have an official video. The guitarist organizes/manages/co-creates the videos...which are _amazing_ but it's best to check out the audio-only for the first time...anyway they only have a few vids out of many songs. Y'all were also talking your asses off and paying no attention to the best part and climax of "46 & 2."

Watch Penuma drum cam live, Danny Carey, watch the octopus in action - th-cam.com/video/FssULNGSZIA/w-d-xo.html
Also Adam the guitarist made the earlier film clips and is an animation artist, worked on some big films back in the late 80s and early 90s.
Maynard doesn't like taking the limelight so stands to the side of the band, when you listen you can tell that the bass, guitar, vocals and drums are very balanced.

Adam Jones has a musical background. I don’t know about Justin, but based on some of his bass grooves and harmonies, he probably does, too. Maynard is just a natural savant. I don’t think he went to school for music or had a background in it. I could be wrong. I haven’t read their wikis. Adam is classically trained on…violin? Another string instrument I believe.

  • @wolfinthesno

I lost all respect when your man said it's hard to find tasteful drummers "especially in this genre" your talking about the genre that is basically constantly bringing new drummers to the forefront who people from other genres go to see in concert to take fucking notes. Also your note that bringing the vocalist forward would destroy the point of the song. Read the lyrics, realize what your talking about, because you were right when you said "I feel like something's going to kill me" he's talking purely about addiction and the music is addiction while the vocal is the person struggling within it. Do yourself a favor and watch the live version. Then do yourself another favor and listen to Gojira "Art of Dying", then Meshuggah "Bleed".
Seriously... Metal is the forefront of drumming, it was an interesting moment when I was watching Gojira Live, and noticed two guys a row away from me talking in each other's ears, and the music cut out and I heard the guy say "it's insane I can not believe he is doing that live" and I realized he was talking about The drumming.
It has also been pointed out that when Meshuggah was playing in California Danny Cary (tools drummer) was back stage to watch Thomas Hake (drummer for Meshuggah). The word was that he was blown away as well.
Please please please do your selfs a favor and react to some Gojira, I often refer to Gojira as the heavier brother of tool.

  • @wolfinthesno

Seriously this is the third comment where I just have to point out how wrong you are. Your saying that the metal artists are collabing with "mainstream" artists? As though the metal bands are lower than the mainstream artists? It's the other way around you have mainstream artists who have dreamt of working with these metalheads for years and now that they're mainstream they actually have the connections to make it work. I'm sorry but you guys have a terrible reading on the pulse of at least the metal genre and I have no interest in knowing what your actual music taste is based on this video because you demonstrate that you don't actually have an appreciation for the music at all.
I will say that I can respect putting NIN above Tool in some ways, Trent Reznor is another powerhouse artist. But other than that there was very little that I could agree with any of you on, other than Danny Cary being among the best drummers of all time....which litteraly anyone who's ever listened to a tool song would say that.
I will watch more videos from you guys, but I sincerely hope you can open your fucking ears, because 100% metal is one of the most PURE expressions of music there ever has been.
