I was extremely lucky to see Phantom the second night of opening on Broadway. From the curtain going up, till the final curtain .. this play was mesmerizing. I saw it six times on Broadway ... three with Michael Crawford and Sarah Brightman .. Absolutely The Best

……Michael was THE original, & THE best ‘Phantom’! Was President if his Fan Club in my State, & was honoured, & privileged to meet him, on several occasions’, which was wonderful. Lovely man, superb voice!
My Dad and I used to enjoy watching his character, Frank Spencer. We watched it religiously. And then I found out he also was the original Phantom, my jaw actually dropped! Totally different characters! But by God, his performance was FLAWLESS!
I went to NY to see PTO twice!! I took my daughter and her friends around 1990. I have photos of the Majestic, playbill, ticket, and song CD but I always wanted a video of that performance with Crawford and Brighton! Shame on the Majestic for not making a video!! Now they have closed and no one else will see that great stage performance!!
Boy, did you lose a fortune by not putting this play on DVD. Everybody can't pick up and make a trip to New Your and pay hundreds of dollars for theater tickets. But if we could see that play for the price of a DVD multiple millions of us would gladly buy them.
Yesss!!! I wish it were all put on a DVD, history, stage productions, and a Broadway full epic production! I saw the Phantom of the Opera twice in New York at the Majestic!!! Truly blessed, I will never forget it!!! Thank you Mr. Weber!!!

I went in 91, thought I was going to see Michael Crawford at the Ahmanson Theater in CA, USA. I was very disappointed. I saw Robert Guillome (sp?), he was amazing and I enjoyed it a great deal! Wish I had seen Michael Crawford once though.
I've seen the Phantom more than 30 times with some amazing performers. I see it every year since 1988. I don't think anyone can match Michael Crawford. Besides, he created the role, meaning how the phantom should move etc, so everyone is following his steps. I think the only one who managed to be as good as Michael, very close to the way he acted and the way he sang, was Dave Willets. I'd then vote for Peter Karrie, John Owen Jones, Ramin Karimloo and Colm Wilkinson.

They had different lyrics when the show was in pre-production. The lyrics in that video were kind of cheezy and over the top, just like the video. It wasn't suitable for the musical as it came to be.

Great acting, great script, great play ... simply ... the best play I have ever seen.
Sarah also has to get some credit for recommending Mr Crawford to Mr Webber. Sarah herself as Christine had a good chemistry

That red suit is from Barnum. I have vcr tape. No way to play it. But I'm keeping it. Loved it.
