Imagine if those under privledged guys had the same facilities as those powerhouse rugby schools. South Africa would really be an unstoppable force in rugby.
Same story in most countries...
Top players tend to start at a small selection of schools with the facilities and staff who can give them the best start. The vast majority of players never get that chance so who knows how many potential stars never progress beyond their local clubs?

So many countries would flourish. e.g. Kenya, Uganda and many other African countries. If the west Africans could embrace this sport, the world would be in trouble.
@@zaques2 Kenya and Uganda are in East Africa.... and both play rugby. The Kenyans have an excellent Sevens side that competes in the World 7's series.
@@douglasherron7534 Yeah, that's true. I'm actually Kenyan and a huge rugby fan. What I was highlighting was the fact that facilities like the ones in South African power house rugby schools are not prevalent (Including top tier Kenyan Clubs). A lot of talent is lost due to that. I find it really sad.

Rugby and rugby clubs in coloured areas are rich with history, they might not have played or appeared in top clubs or the national time at the time but the culture and style of rugby has passed down for generations.
Not gonna lie, I find it soooo strange that you guys use the word “coloured”!
Jim, fast becoming my favorite rugby celebrity. This was a great documentary, thanks for showing me forgotten parts of my country.

The narrative of the video was more a holistic take on the country. Pure PR for the British & Irish Lions tour.

My uncle was Sri Lanka Ambassador to S.A right before Mr. Mandela assume Presidency. He was part of British commonwealth team used to brief Mr. Mandela at the Robben Island every week. Coming from an overseas country but a huge fan of the Springboks, I reckon if the government improve some playing fields, I tell you what, it will boost the young generations playing abilities more and it may also have some impact or changes in the social aspects of things as well. They should go to places where rugby is a growing game (Kenya , Indonesia , Canada USA etc) and also to places where rugby is already established but is still on the grow ( Uruguay Georgia Spain Romania Chile etc) and they should go to Argentina btw

Excellent. Interesting to hear why the Cape Crusaders still support NZ teams - "Kolisi isn't from our schools" but he's right though, if your don't come from the right rugby schools and universities, and through the provincial systems, it is very difficult for a young player to break through. Almost impossible to break through from a non-varsity club

The part about NZ playing at Cape Town or P.E is true. SARU stopped hosting games there because of the massive support for NZ where it would feel like a home game for them. The last time being in 2017 and before that in '08. NZ Super Rugby teams enjoy more support than the Stormers too at times.
No dude, I've never been to a stormers game when there were more NZ supporters. My Dad supported the All Blacks, but was a through and though WP man. I remember watching the Crusaders ,during a poor season for the Stormers, but it was one of the few games we won, Dan Carter had an off day, and was heckled quite a bit
Brilliant Jim. Such a brilliant country but we have major problems. Anyway, the rugby is good the wine is good but the soccer is super shit. Love your podcasts. Moved here when I was 17 from Glasgow to PE to play soccer for PE City, now 66 and in in Cape Town. All my kids born here. Beautiful people and beautiful place.
I was at beyond adventure in Alicedale and played for one of the local clubs!! this is crazy!! I have played on that pitch a few times! the rugby was actually decent.

I think flair rugby is in African's blood for the most part. I'm of African descent and although I was born and raised in England running rugby is better for me.

They should have club scouts go out to the townships and under privileged areas to look for that raw talent that's so abundant but unfortunately the raw talent rarely reach the top. Collegians Rugby Mitchells Plain, Cape Town.

Mr Dollie has a genuine axe to grind, but could take a leaf out Nelson Mandela’s book.
Rugby players ok, grounds man not so good.There are people in england that still pay subs to help there club out .
This highlights how SARU have still not equalised the opportunity for black players from poor areas.
It's actually the government that's letting these players down. SARU has programs in place to ensure that development is taking place.
It's the governments job to build and maintain infrastructure in townships.
Sounds as though, form the two kings of the 70's, the youth playing actually went downhill after apartheid ended. Wondering if they are going to admit to the crime and drug problem being post apartheid.

36:20 kolisi came from very poor circumstances it is not true to say he was in a white school
He went to Gray High school one of the most elite rugby schools in SA that is how he got selected.
He was discovered first - playing for the township club side got him into junior tournament where he was spotted by one of the Grey High coaches. Those schools offer a tremendously stable grounding for young sportsman but you don't have to go to an elite school to be selected. PSDT when to a very far from elite farm school in the Cape - so the Cape Crusader argument is beginning to lose traction these days but everybody is free to choose whom they'd like to support.
@Kelly Robbins PTSD grandfather played for the Boks so he was always on the radar. He is a phenomenal player though.
