Great review. My initial reaction to the SRPD range was initially pretty mediocre due to the lack of a screw down crown but I have warmed to them. As someone who last went snorkelling (not even scuba diving!) over 10 years ago, I really have no need for a dive watch so 100m of water resistance is probably ok for me 😂 Similarly, I saw the SRPEs as having all the “negatives” of the 5KXs when in reality a better way to view them is they’re beefed up Seiko 5s rather than a stripped down, fixed bezel SKX. I will definitely be picking one of these up at some point.
I actually returned an SRPD that I bought when I first saw the SRPE51. It's a very stunning piece and the price is definitely right. I don't mind the unsigned crown, but the lack of a sapphire crystal was a big let down so I added one to mine. Now it's probably one of the slickest looking watches in my case. The only thing that would make it better is a polished chapter ring with etched minutes markers. As soon as someone comes out with one for the SRPE line I'll be sure to add one to mine. 👍

I was sold on getting a Hamilton Khaki Field 38mm. I love field watches, and it has a sapphire. However, this specific grey dial Seiko is making the choice damn hard at this point. Dive watch looks, without the clunky bezel.. it is such an interesting design, which keeps pulling me. It'll need a sapphire upgrade, but that doesn't seem a big problem!

I had an SRPD(85K1), it was super top heavy, I took it back and got the SRPE57K1, it’s so much thinner and lighter.Weirdly, Seiko has chosen to keep the same case and bezel of the SRPDs but call some an SRPE, ie, SRPE75K1and SRPE77K1.
Would take one in preference to the overrated skx any day ( yes I have had SKX's). Big improvement imho... Really not a fan of the day/date, would look so much better with date only at six, or better still no date at all - tho I guess it'd be too close to the Tudor BB 36/41. Cheers mate 👍🏻
Nice review of a really nice Seiko! 🍻 I'm leaning toward the black dial variant on the Nato strap. It would be nice if Seiko offered it with no date. But; that's fine. I have a few Seiko 5s, and they are always reliable, and fun!
@@LastWatch I usually tell myself I’ll buy a colorful dial, but end up getting the black. What do you think of the Uncle Seiko bracelet? I recently bought their jubilee for my Sarb, and for the price I was unhappy about the clasp, and in particular the rolled link joining the clasp to the bracelet. The pins were extremely hard to remove. Overall it didn’t feel like $80 worth, but then again maybe that’s just the economics of a small US brand making model specific bracelets. I will say that from a few feet away it looks great! Might try the Strapcode one on it once I can bear to spend another $120 on it.
I agree, the President looks great and its a sweet change from an oyster but solid end links and a milled clasp would be very welcome. I think Larry is keen to have everything come in at a certain budget which effects the components. I'm looking at possible options for my Turtle STO, what would you recommend
Is that the SRPC91 with 22mm lug width? It looks like there’s some nice looking Strapcode options for that around the $80. I’ve not tried any of these but the construction looks solid. I think I’d be inclined to order one from Amazon to see if it looks worth it (then at least it’s easy to return).
I am getting my hands on a Kanji model (same as this one), SBSA041. I like the rust colored or burgundy colored melange perlon straps. But, this looks best the way it comes: On a bracelet, it just finishes it off best.
Could you tell me where you got that photo shown @3:13 that appears to show photos of every??? Seiko ever made? Or, does that photo only list certain models? Thanks.
This is a while back, pretty sure I just did a Google search for Seiko 5 and trawled through images. It was an official Seiko pic, it’s probably double the size now
I just got a seiko prospex and just got a presidential band. The presidential band just looks great! Once had the jubilee and didn’t like it. The oyster band was good. Currently on a rubber band and it’s conforming but the presidential band is sensational
I went for the SRPE53 blue dial it's a stunning watch, greater than the sum of its parts. I've been wearing mine on the same Vario twill nato but it looks good on pretty much anything.
@@piquetuk Sorry but I'm new in watches and I didn't understand you. I measured the bracelet width and it's 18mm. It looks a bit small on my wrist and I want a bigger bracelet if possible to fit. Can you advise?
@@sng- Measure the lug width on the watch itself not the strap, the Seiko bracelet isn't the same width all the way down, by the clasp it's only 17mm but where the spring bars fit to the watch, between the lugs, it should be 20mm if it's not you don't have an SRPE53. I think Strapcode & Long Island Watch do more substantial bracelets for the SRPE but they will still be 20mm wide at the spring bar ends but thicker (depth) & better quality overall, I haven't seen the LIW version but I have a strapcode bracelet for my SKX & it's very impressive, if the SRPE version is as good I'll probably get one myself though I haven't found a strap the SRPE53 doesn't look good on, a distressed yellowy brown leather NATO is a current favourite. Hope that helps.
Mine has made in Japan inside bottom dial. Read somewhere those that do not have made in Japan, inside dial with type movement. Are made or assembled in China. May want to fact check this. I do like my SRP51E a lot. The one with the blue dial is nice looking also.
I love my seiko sport 5 but I have to disassemble it to wind it. The magic lever wears out in the first day and won't give you more than 2 hours of reserve. The stem doesn't wind either. Bummer. Such a good watch.
I just got back into watches and picked up the black SRPE. Before knowing it was offered in sunburst grey 🤦🏼 Edit: And YES, the SRPE is my strap monster; the size & simple layout render it very versatile

Good afternoon. I have automatic Seiko srpe61k1 and i started the watch manualy, about 20 turns crown and put it on the shelf. they were without any motions and they stopes after 9 hours. Is it normal? Im worried because in the instruction says that they must run 41 hours.
I normally give my watch 20+ winds to get it started then wear it all day before letting sit overnight, I should think your Seiko needs a little more juice
As soon as I hear anything other than sapphire, my wallet closes up. I’ll never pay for a crystal that will easily scratch compared to sapphire. A shame since it’s such a handsome watch. Oh well. Good vid regardless 😎👍🏼
Great review. Seiko have wanted to distance their brand from the sub £1000 market for the last 5 years, and forced this by intentionally only releasing higher spec models in the Prospex lines and above. Orient will fill the affordable void for now, but Seiko knows that China is a manufacturing powerhouse that will stop using their NH35 movements in the next couple of years, when their own movements gain recognition with brands like San Martin etc. Essentially Seiko's days as the bargain champion have been numbered for a while, and I believe they are going all-in on aligning the brand with luxury (GS) and scarcity through limited editions, which seem to be every other watch. Which watch brand do I think they are trying to imitate? Well, who is famous for maintaining artificially high RRP by creating scarcity in the market... Rolex.
For me personally, I love the watch. However, I would beyond love the watch if it had the old Seiko badge and if it stated ‘24 Jewels’ opposed to the automatic statement.

I agree with the entire video and I really want to have an automatic watch in my collection but that +-45 seconds inaccuracy is a big barrier for me
You would have to be very unlucky to get a movement that bad, it’s just Seiko covering their butts
I bought this one...swapped it onto a cognac suede strap...so versatile
Do you have a reference for the strap
Looks like a DateJust II with a day complication and no magnifier. Nice looking watch!
Totally agree
I had an SRPD(85K1), it was super top heavy, I took it back and got the SRPE57K1, it’s so much thinner and lighter.Weirdly, Seiko has chosen to keep the same case and bezel of the SRPDs but call some an SRPE, ie, SRPE75K1and SRPE77K1.
very strange and well spotted
Would take one in preference to the overrated skx any day ( yes I have had SKX's). Big improvement imho... Really not a fan of the day/date, would look so much better with date only at six, or better still no date at all - tho I guess it'd be too close to the Tudor BB 36/41.
Cheers mate 👍🏻
I think we are in agreement about the date
Nice review of a really nice Seiko! 🍻
I'm leaning toward the black dial variant on the Nato strap. It would be nice if Seiko offered it with no date. But; that's fine. I have a few Seiko 5s, and they are always reliable, and fun!
Unfortunately the date is a requirement of the Seiko 5 range
@@LastWatch i know it is. 😎
@@LastWatch Maybe it's time for Seiko to offer a new series! The "Seiko 4" series!!! No date!!!! Yay!!
just saw them in person today, size is perfekt….. really tempting
Go for it
Great looking watch, and thanks for the video. I I will definitely be looking at one of these!
Which colour option would you go for
@@LastWatch I usually tell myself I’ll buy a colorful dial, but end up getting the black.
You are not the first to recommend strapcode
I recommend Uncle Seiko on a regular basis as a dealer here in South Africa
Great video - I was looking at Seiko 5 SRPE57K1 - how does it compare with this watch ? ( looking for an everyday watch )
Technically they are the same watch with different hands and dial, if you prefer the gilt finish then it’s an easy choice
@@LastWatch thanks - is there any other watch you’d recommend - in this bracket / Everyday watch ?
Sales again on market we like it .
I am getting my hands on a Kanji model (same as this one), SBSA041. I like the rust colored or burgundy colored melange perlon straps. But, this looks best the way it comes: On a bracelet, it just finishes it off best.
I would love a kanji version of this watch
Dang it now I want this watch too.
Go for it
I‘m just about to order it 👨💻🤩
My first Seiko, I’m excited!
Could you tell me where you got that photo shown @3:13 that appears to show photos of every??? Seiko ever made? Or, does that photo only list certain models? Thanks.
This is a while back, pretty sure I just did a Google search for Seiko 5 and trawled through images. It was an official Seiko pic, it’s probably double the size now
M buying this tomorrow. Hope everything goes well
Enjoy
just got my seiko SRPE53k1 yesterday. wonderful watch. the blue sunburst dial is awesome. 😊
Good choice!
I just got a seiko prospex and just got a presidential band. The presidential band just looks great! Once had the jubilee and didn’t like it. The oyster band was good. Currently on a rubber band and it’s conforming but the presidential band is sensational
I think you can wear this one on anything
I got srpe53k1 the blue variant love it.
So you should
I went for the SRPE53 blue dial it's a stunning watch, greater than the sum of its parts. I've been wearing mine on the same Vario twill nato but it looks good on pretty much anything.
Great choice, the blue is stunning
Got the same watch with blue dial . I didn't realise lug width is only 18mm. Can I change it with 20mm new bracelet ?
@@sng- SRPE are 20mm lug width I just checked, the oem bracelet tapers a little.
Pretty sure they have a factory in Malaysia, refernces witha a J are overseen by Japanese QC, refernces with a K are mad elsewhere
Where is the misalignment on ur chapter ring? I couldn't see it in the video
it's there
@@LastWatch k
Was wondering whether there are any readability issues in bright sunlight given the sunburst grey dial. Would be grateful if you could help out!
Its never been an issue regardless of the light
I love my seiko sport 5 but I have to disassemble it to wind it. The magic lever wears out in the first day and won't give you more than 2 hours of reserve. The stem doesn't wind either. Bummer. Such a good watch.
Sounds like you got a dud
I just got back into watches and picked up the black SRPE. Before knowing it was offered in sunburst grey 🤦🏼
Edit: And YES, the SRPE is my strap monster; the size & simple layout render it very versatile
there is no wrong colour choice with the SRPE line-up, enjoy your black beauty
@@LastWatch 💯 I *KNOW* that's right! 👍 Edit: Grey is on the way, gonna put it on this Uncle Seiko Speedmaster 20mm bracelete & add sapphire dome for a vintage look. I think it'll be a hot number, while black can remain my strap monster since it's easy to match or contrast. Thanks for responding & for the channel/content
A sapphire mod is a great idea
I am new to your channel and glad I found this.
Thanks Darren, I'm glad you found me too
There seems to be an SRPE51K1 and 55K1. Is there any difference?
Seiko mang hebat produknya, saya punya Jam dinding merk Seiko, dari thn.1976, sampaisekarang masih normal danbelum pernah Rusak.
Should I buy this or a Citizen NH8390-71L, could you please help me decide.
I've not had the opportunity to get hands on with the Citizen but its an attractive watch from a reputable brand. Ultimately which of the 2 do you find most appealling ? I would always recommend trying before you buy, nothing beats having a watch on the wrist
I love these SRPE’s, I’m likely going to pick one up. But I do own a black dial/bezel SRPD and I love it. I love the Seiko 5 line. I wear my SRPD almost every day.
There are some little treasures in the 5 line
The strap swapping is what sold it for me... WOW.
It's a versatile watch
I have it too, but without a screw crown I'm afraid to wet it, the rest is fantastic
We are of a similar mind
At last, someone that talks about the 5 that looks like the Suzuki logo. Everybody just kept on saying it's just interesting.
I couldnt help myself
How does the bracelet feel on your hand? My wrist is about 16cm and I don’t want the lugs to pertrude.
I would suggest you try one on the wrist before making your decision
At 1.5x the price, is the Hamilton Field auto worth it for you?
Check out my Boderry Voyager field watch review
I'm seriously considering modding this with a sapphire crystal and a signed crown, what do you think
@@LastWatch excellent notion
Rolex.
It will be interesting to see how much of this plays out in the coming years
@@LastWatch Indeed! It may be worth keeping hold of your Seikos as I can't imagine many sub £1000 releases past 2022. Keep up the great work pal☺️👍
For me personally, I love the watch. However, I would beyond love the watch if it had the old Seiko badge and if it stated ‘24 Jewels’ opposed to the automatic statement.
Seiko like to hold a little bit back
I'm getting one for Christmas 😃
Which reference
Seiko need a 37-38mm replacement to the SKX013. No bezel. No date. That would be fire. They'll never do a no date though.
That would be a killer watch
I have a small wrist and a 0013...This srpe Is not bad even for small wrists.. LUG to LUG Is a fantastic 44.5 mm!!!
The Uncle Seiko looks great!
There's room for improvement but it does suit the watch
Great review! Another one for my collection 😂
A worthy watch, which reference you going for
