    I've found that adding 1-1.5 cups of baking soda to the wash and letting it sit for about 15-20 min before washing and then adding 1-2 cups of vinegar in the rinse cycle works well for keep my towels fresh.

      This is glorious, I've been looking for "strong body odor underarms" for a while now, and I think this has helped. Ever heard of - Senaliyah Reputable Superiority - (should be on google have a look ) ? It is a smashing exclusive guide for discovering how to stop your excessive sweating minus the hard work. Ive heard some incredible things about it and my friend got amazing results with it.

    Because we live in a humid climate our bath towels get mildew stinky FAST... even with the a/c running (I know, TMI). Running them through the washer with just vinegar alone definitely works. I do it often, especially in the summer months (which this year, included December!).

    I usually use baking soda as a detergent booster and vinegar + lavender oil in place of liquid fabric softener - it works great! I have been using vinegar and baking soda as part of my cleaning routine thanks to your videos, and makes cleaning so much more satisfying and less chemical-y.
    Melissa - Can you talk a little bit about the difference between baking soda and washing soda?

    I like to use Borox when I do towels.....always leaves them smelling nice and fresh. Just add a 1/3 cup to a large load and that's it. I have a top loading machine and never have had any problems with it....it's getting old but I'm not too impressed with a lot of the new machines I've seen. I'll just keep getting it fixed...only had it repaired twice in last 15 years....great little unit. I like the tip about the lavender. Your videos are always so interesting. You zoomed right into the stinky problem with a smelly solution smile. That made me confident I was on the right track to zap that stink. Extra dry on electronic meter so I can see the dampness disapear. I add a cup of distilled vinegar to the thing on top where you put bleach. they are stingless. LOL :) And that was a really big fluff dryer ball, wow! That would take 6 of my little ones to make a big one like yours. Thanks, that was a great video.

    I was hoping this would be about how to stop my laundry hamper from stinking up my bedroom... any ideas? I'm a student and there's nowhere else it can go, and it's kind of annoying when I'm trying to study...
    Also... air-drying clothes rules. You don't need to tumble-dry unless you've got small children, or maybe if you have a full-time uniformed job with only one uniform (and I managed even that without a tumble-dryer - things went in the washing machine as soon as I got home and dried overnight). Clothes last longer that way.

      +Chef L You can also hang a home-made sachet filled with baking soda in your laundry hamper. This should do the trick for about 2-3 months. Then just dump the baking soda, fill it up with more, and re-hang it. I also keep an open cup of baking soda in my refrigerator to keep it smelling fresh.

    A few more laundry questions:
    How do you actually have to seperate the colors when washing? Sometimes, when everything has been washed multiple times and isn't likely to stain, I just wash everything in one load and it works out great. But when I'm not sure about that, and have to seperate, I always get confused. Black/dark and white is obvious, but what about red/blue/light colors/etc? What do you do with multi-colored cloths, having both white and colors and/or black in them?
    I prefer using diy/natural cleaning products, do I have to adjust the detergent ingredients to the color I'm washing? If so, how?

    I cant find the comment, but someone suggested borax and oxyclean. And it WORKED! i used about 1c borax and 1/2c oxy in my washer, let it mix with the lowest water settting, then added the affected clothes. Let them agitate fot a min. Then let them soak for a few hrs. Agitating them every 1/2 hr. Then finished the wash cycle, double rinse. Im so glad i saved my clothes! Hope this helps someone.

    My biggest problem was totally forgetting that I had a load in progress. I've solved that by leaving one of the bifold doors to my laundry closet open whenever I have a load in either the washer or dryer. I can completely forget about the load of towels, jeans etc. that I've got in the washer or dryer but as soon as I see that door open I instantly remember that I've got a load of laundry in progress.

    I have a chemical type smell coming from my laundry room. My old washer broke a few years ago, I bought a used one. Ran an empty load with Clorox as it was filthy and it drained into the drain (as did my broken one which is why I was replacing it)..... So I got a new LG top loader and after some time I notice a slight to medium chemical smell coming from my laundry room. It isn't moldy or rotten eggish, it is just a weird chemicalish smell.... not even harsh but just like when you open something that smells platisticy or just a funky chemical smell. So I had never washed my machine in a year, although I run vinegar and baking soda in every towel load due to smell and severe dingy color of my clothes.... So I got AFFRESH and ran 3 back to back. I also sometimes have these little black/Brown flecks of questionable origin on my clothes when I take them out of the washer? I don't know if the smell even comes from my washer as when I put my nos close to it I don't specifically smell it on the washer just more when you walk in the room?

      ***** We clean our vitamix two ways. First, after each use we fill it halfway with water, put a few drops of dishwashing soap, run the blender on high for a minute, then rinse out the soapy water. Then once every few weeks we fill the blender 3/4 the way with water and put in a cup of white vinegar and then let it sit overnight. The next day we take a scrubbing brush and really scrub the whole blender to get any residue out of the blender. Hope this helps!

      My solution to your problem was to literally eliminate 2/3 or my wardrobe items.
      I organised a 333 style wardrobe, but basically live in my "10pc wardrobe challenge" ultra capsule. That's 10 pieces for 48 outfits. I have a hanger for each item - after it's worn it's either washed or rehung.
      I don't have enough clothes to simply wash and leave them unhung - so I was forced to put actually do my laundry in a timely manner, and then put it away... Why don't you give it a go?

    • @Sharkster32
      @Sharkster32 9 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Rinse your blender with hot water straight away, the longer you leave it, the harder it is to clean properly. To really clean mine properly, I use only enough hot water to double the height of the blades, and a squirt of dish soap, and run it on high for a few seconds, then rinse. Using hot water just lessens the need to dry afterwards I have a Blendtec wildside jar fyi, and I've never touched the blades, and they are as clean as the were brand new.

    • @thelastnameiwanted
      @thelastnameiwanted 9 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      I've never really touched the blades on my blender. I just rinse with hot water immediately after use and then fill it up half ways with hot water and put a little bit of dawn dish soap inside and run the blender on high. Next you rinse it let it dry.

      My solution for getting the clothes put away is to start a stopwatch and see how long it takes me to get them folded and put away. It's silly, but it works for me. I can usually do a load in under 5 minutes.

    I find that heavily scented laundry products end up making things smell worse when things are dirty, it's like whatever is left behind in the clothes to make them smell "nice" goes mouldy. I find unscented powder and the occasional use of a soaker, if something is going in smelling bad already (like napisan here in Australia), keeps things fresh, no covering scents required.

    laundry is my favorite chore, i don't why so many people dislike it. but as to problems we have for you to address...i never know what to do with my rags and dishrags...i can't afford to do a whole load just for them, but I feel like dishcloths need to be bleached, and i only occasionally do a load of whites with bleach, so either have to do my dishcloths without bleach, which i think is totally grody, or wait until i'm doing a bleach load, which is also grody having smelly dishcloths sitting around waiting to get washed. Same thing, kinda, with rags-- i don't want to wash cobwebs, dust, grime, and spiderwebs along with my regular clothes...but I don't have anywhere near a full load of rags to wash. #laundromatdilemmas #quartersdontgrowontrees

    I NEED HELP, MELISSA!!! I've watched all the videos about house, laundry, & fabric odors. I have some great notes and plan on doing a lot of the things you said (using vinegar and baking soda). I still don't know if it will be enough. The situation: My roommate's room and clothing have a bad smell all the time...and it's been going on for many years. (Note: She truly has NO sense of smell - real condition.) It affects the whole house, even though I make her keep her door closed. She has clothes all over the floor and I know it's all in the carpet and her bedding, too. I think it even affects the washer and therefore my stuff. She's washed all her clothes, etc. but it's still a major problem. (I go to my mom's house where she has 5,000 scents in every room, and when I come home I really notice the scent of my house. Not good.) PLEASE tell me what we can do. I don't know what the source is! (Sorry this is so long, but I'm tired and desperate. Thanks in advance!!)

    The tip with the essential oils is genious, my laundry smells less strange after washing. But I still have a problem: I have a lot of dark clothes, which I wash in the washing cycle for darkl clothes at a low temperatur (40°C) But even if I wash a long cycle of towels at 60°C before (that smells good after wasging), my dark clothes still smell strange when I wash them. A bit like cold sweat or something. What else can I do? Vinegar is not realy an option, because it is not good for my mashine

    My biggest laundry quandry is getting the socks put back together and put away. I have a question also. Do those dryer balls help get rid of static cling or just remove extra lint?

    HI Melissa, Thank you for your tips in this video, they're really helpful. I know I'm coming to this late, but have you done a video about stripping your laundry?

    My biggest problem is my washing machine. It's only 1 year old but from a week in of owing it, it stank and made all the clothes stink too. After trying every darn trick in the book to solve the issue (which didn't solve the issue) I finally researched reviews etc for my model of machine and found that this particular machine is known to have this problem, apparently they are known to get a huge build up of mildew very quickly in a filter that is somewhere in the lower parts of the machine and can't be removed (or even found) and it then flakes off from this filter and goes all over the clothes and no matter how many times I clean the machine, I always leave lid open to air out etc, it happens on every 2nd wash without fail. I contacted the manufacturer, they admitted they are aware of this issue and it is a design fault and their solution was "just by the cleaner stuff from the supermarket and use this when needed" Ummmm, that stuff costs $10 for 2 sachets here in Australia and I shouldn't have to go to all this trouble because of their design fault. This issue has caused me to hate doing washing and I can't wait for this machine to die so I can buy another one that doesn't have this fault.

    we had to move and give up our washing machine and ever since now we have laundry stank... We have to go to Laundromat's and use up right machines which I deplore! They are used by lots of people and they don't do as well as having your own machine. Because of your videos I have invested in dryer balls and hope they will help for sheets and towels but I hang a lot of my clothing at home on racks and the one thing we run into is undies are not getting clean like they use to so I started hand washing mine but daughter still does them in the wash and was wondering how else besides hand washing could we get them clean-any tips?

    Melissa, when you say don't overstuff the washing machine, do you mean "overstuff overstuff"? Because here in Mauritius, everybody say to well-stuff the washing machine as to not waste water or whatsoever. Can you tell how much clothes should I put in the washing machine? Cause now I don't know what to do and by the way, thanks for the tips. I sure know what to do next time I'll put on the washing machine except for the overstuff thing.

    Thank you for these tips, Melissa! I have a laundry question: how often do you need to clean the washer and dryer? once in 12 months?
    Can you take us with you in your laundryroom - renovation? I would like to see this, just like your kitchen :)
    Keep up the good work!

    I love doing laundry, but I hate going to the laundry mat. I can't wait until I get my washer and dryer (saving up for it). Vinegar I knew about, but buttermilk is new to me. Old stains are an issue for me. Like pit stains on my husband work tees. Or stains from when you are drinking or eating something and you realize you have a "hole in your lip".
    One more thing. My husband won me this giant stuffed White Tiger at the fair and it's dirty and dingy what's the best way to wash it?

    Laundry Quandary: I have this delicate shirt that's held together by strands of wool (not like knitted, the space between each "stitch" is big enough that you could see your hand underneath the garment) and I'm not sure if I should put it in the washing machine or hand wash it. My washing machine does have a wool/hand wash setting. To put it in the laundry machine, or not to put it in the laundry machine, that is the question. Lol. As usual, very informative and interesting video. Thanks in advance!!
    P.S. I saw that you have a Pusheen kitty shirt!! So cute!!
    P.P.S. Have you guys ever thought about starting a series on the Melissa Maker or Chad Reynolds TH-cam channel featuring Malee and Paislee (aka. Cat videos😺 with Malee and Paislee and of course, you guys in it!! 😄)??
    P.P.P.S. I know this is random, but this is the longest I've ever commented. Lol love you guys! ❤️

    Hi Melissa.. Can you add Tea Tree oil to laundry detergent if there is no lavender oil ?

    • @letinhsong8024
      @letinhsong8024 5 ปีที่แล้ว

      yes, you can, if you don't mind the smell. Also Scotch pine EO (or any pine EO) or Lemon Myrtle EO. I mostly use Lemon Myrtle, because I am not a fan of lavender.

    Melissa, Chad, come to Brazil! I wanna be friends with you, have some caipirinhas and talk about how I can't ever get motivated to clean. Guess it's all the heat we've been getting down here lately! I have an ironing question... Not really sure if it fits the cleaning subject but... Do you guys ever iron your clothes? I lived for a year in the US and rarely ironed because the dryer helped smoothing the clothes but some were still wrinkled. Any tips on that?

    my laundry nightmare is the teenage-sweat of my 14 years old son.
    Some Testosteron and axe-parfumes mixed left an aweful smell.
    It´s just his clothes. What shall I do with his sweater and t-shirts?

    How to deal with questionable washing machines in a laundromat? Are they clean after each use?

    • @letinhsong8024
      @letinhsong8024 5 ปีที่แล้ว

      no, they most definitely are not cleaned after each use, or barely at all, period. This is part of the horribleness of having to do clothes at the laundromat. Plus now they have all those locking doors, so you can't add clothes that dropped from your car to the machine, or add more soap, or whatever. Laundromats might not be hell, but they're just a step or so away from it! I know, been using them for about 20 years... (plus it's absolutely mind-blowing to see what people are STUFFING into the machines, expecting them to get clean!!! HELLO! no machine in the world is going to get something clean if there is not enough space to agitate the clothes!!! Head slap! and then they leave the machines smelling like dirty laundry for the next person...)

    When laundering in vinegar only, does the vinegar go in the softener or the detergent compartment?

      If using as a cleaning agent, I'd put into the detergent compartment.
