My husband would like to do the mule ride to the bottom, which surprised me because he's real city slicker. This video is very helpful, and Cheryl is very brave! Hope to do this one day.
👍🏼This was the best video ever to find out what a person needs to know before going mule riding in the Grand Canyon. And I have watched a lot of them too. The others weren't as helpful or as informative. Thanks for including the weight limit...very important to know, especially because I'm now carrying extra covid tonnage! 🤣 Thanks much for all your helpful tips.
Hello again, y'all. I did the north rim ride back the last week in May. Looks like they put you up on "Moonshine" Cheryl. My mule! He was great. The ride was just marvelous [Supai tunnel] and I booked a good bit out so there was no issue getting the time and date during my stay. I hope Dustin the wrangler is fully recovered from his tossed/runaway experience! Last I heard was him saying "Me 'n this mule will be havin' a talk back in the corral..."
Looks amazing! 3 hours I’m jealous. So beautiful. We might end up canceling our Yellowstone trip end of Aug due to smoke. I’m so sad as you can imagine. Time to get you a cowboy hat!
Me: a 225 lb Marine. Scared to death of horses. I rode a horse when I was stationed at 29 Palms, Ca. They were trail horses that rode into the desert. My horse was so gentle. Just kind of went along and all was fine. That was in 1967. When I was a kid and went to the 4th of July parade my mother would look way up the street and announce that there were horses coming and gather us up and put us in the car. It sucked watching the parade from the rear window inside a hot Chrysler. Her fear certainly transferred onto me. I love the You Tube video of the small donkey who has not seen his friend, a little girl, in a long time. It's true love. If he was mine, I would let him stay inside my house. Or I would sleep out beside him in his.
@@Deej496 Thank you for saying that! I have "survivors guilt" because one "short-timer" asked me if I would speak to the Lt. about getting us out of the next day's 3-day operation over in what was known as Dodge City. I was his squad leader. Another kid in my squad had received a "dear John" from his GF, Chris. He wanted to go "kill some gooks." I told Chris (Bob Kline) to calm down. I told Marco (Robert) that "we were short handed and the Lt. would never approve of us staying behind. The next day as we approached a village all hell broke loose. Marco went down. He was motionless. He was dead. Kline tried to go drag his body back, but was being shot at by the same sniper. He came back to where I was and I told him Marco was dead and to hold off until the firefight ceased. He said, "No, I have to get to him." I grabbed Kline and told him, "No, goddam it." but he slipped from my grip and went out to save him anyway. He was shot dead doing so. He received a Silver Star for his heroic effort. I received a broken heart. On the Vietnam Wall their names are connected, one above the other. The way they died.
Thanks so much for this video. This is on my bucket list and I'll be coming back to this to make my notes. Again, you guys put so much into these videos and they are so helpful. Thanks again, I'm looking forward to my trip. We are planning an Easter trip for 2022.
Thank you, Cheryl (and Matt)!! I've always wanted to visit the Grand Canyon. A co-worker suggested I try the North Rim. Now I know to take a mule ride! (My husband can go on the bike trail. He is too big for the mule: 6 feet, 240 lbs.)
@@WereintheRockies From what I heard...Stallone hiked to the bottom...and wanted a helicopter ride out...was turned down because there was no emergency...

I never want to ride a mule at the Grand Canyon, but for those who do, have a fab time!

This is Matt. I loved the north rim and will do a video on it soon. Highly recommend it!
@@WereintheRockies Great! Thank you, Matt! I look forward to it!
I've read that they wouldn't even let Sylvester Stallone or John Wayne ride down because they weighed to much...
Hadn’t heard that!

Wow!
Thanks
We have booked the North Rim mule ride. My wife is very nervous. You seemed to enjoy it. Any advice or words of encouragement for her?
She just needs to try to relax. The mules know what they're doing and they'll follow each other. She's in good hands.
Where can I book??
Here is the link on the national park website: www.nps.gov/grca/planyourvisit/mule_trips.htm
What happens if you rode horses in the past
Did this mule trip in the 70’s…all was ok but they like to lean way over the downhill edge for fresh vegetation……yikes!
