She gave it a go. How many others could stand there in front of 6 people who does that for a living and in front of an audience and answer questions like that within one minute? Fine, there has been a few do it. I'd struggle answering those with a 20 second head start. Hat's off to her for giving it her best
With 29 left on the clock she would have struggled to get one of the lower offers anyway. Such a shame. My heart thumped for her, for sure. I was thinking before the timer started, no matter what happens, I have massive admiration for her choosing that option, and the Chasers and audience obviously respected that as well. This would have been such an incredible win though. Would have loved to see that.
I'd have either gone £30K for 3 chasers or £100K for 5, depending on how I was feeling. For 4 chasers (versus 3), the small difference in time advantage, plus an extra chaser, isn't worth only £20,000 more in my opinion. At that point you might as well go for 5.
Fair play for giving it a go. If she had won, she would have gone down in history as the first to win the super offer. Similar to Judith Keppel becoming the first person to win £1 million on WWTBAM.
The pressure is already high as is when she chose to face all six of them. The chasers saw this as a challenge as well - took less than 3 seconds to answer the first question, and less than 4 on average for subsequent questions (ones that were answered correctly, anyway.) The pressure on the girl probably multiplied itself by 500000x when she failed to answer the first time, and then another 500000x the second time. When she started shaking her head and smiled to herself she already knew she lost. I believe her train of thought was almost at "Mayflower" when she passed to save time. Still, major balls of titanium to take on six of them, knowing your chance of winning is probably slim to none. I would've taken the 40-second deal (best value, in my opinion).
she went for the gusto, props to her! first 20 seconds she did amazingly but would've needed to keep that pace throughout the whole round and essentially not get 1 wrong if she wanted to win, but I guess thats how it goes when theres 500k on the line, also going first definitely does not help. GG
Also I think once she did get one wrong, she dwelled on it and I think that threw her. I've noticed now, because time is so crucial if the answer doesn't come to you right away, just pass immediately and cut your losses don't waste time thinking, if you do get one wrong, let it go mentally and just focus on the next one don't let it throw you off.
It's not just a game of knowledge. Psychology plays a big part in this game! You give one wrong answer you have to brush it aside and focus on the next question! Like a psychopath with no emotions ~ ice cold !!
I do believe this is the first and only time that a contestant has chosen to take on all 6 chasers. What’s also interesting to note is that there was another contestant who could’ve taken on all 6 but chose to take on 4 and he absolutely slaughtered them. He had about 30 seconds left on his clock so potentially, if he’d have taken on all 6… they might have won an even more incredible amount of money.
I'm pretty sure it isn't the first, and I think that person won, but I may be wrong on them winning. But for me it's more about the time than anything else. Sometimes the chasers get tripped up on BTC because they have to consider each other as opposed to when they're alone and can just say 'pass' if they're unsure. Sometimes people have won not because they played too well, but because of the time running out and the chasers getting a pop culture question none of them knew the answer to and waiting too long to answer. I think she would've won against 4, and maybe even 5
I wonder if Steven would have beaten 4 or more chaser’s, the only thing is the chaser’s might have known the answer’s to the 2 Paul got wrong and the 1 Darragh got wrong so I’m not sure if Steven would have won if there were more chaser’s he faced.
@@qasimhussain1678 hmm fair enough. Have you ever thought about the strategy you would deploy if you were on Beat The Chasers? What’s most important to you, the time, the money or the chasers?
This is possible to do but you need to not get two wrong in a row because the chasers wont and you get the first question which immediately puts you under time pressure
To all who call her greedy, yeah, hindsight is 20/20. I applaud her confidence. Let's see how many would call her greedy had she won. To all that say she should have gone for lower money, well... the chasers used 31 seconds, that's less than the lowest offer. Yes, some chasers wouldn't be able to answer, but it's not clear she would have won with any of those offers.
They play with an inherent time disad in addtion to having to- 1. Press the buzzer, and wait for the buzzer to call the person 2. This isn’t Jess’ fault. It’s bad game design, not allowing for a time advantage on the super. Chasers probably would have offered 50 seconds or so. Still very tough, and Jess would have still lost, but that at least makes it seem theoretically possible.
There are so many "you should've taken the lower offer instead of being greedy" comments that are entirely based on what the end result was, instead of taking the perspective of being there in the moment, before the actual decision is made. When you're there, you never know. Despite being superbrains, the chasers have a history of messing up big time in quite a few instances, and with the right questions at the right time, it's still doable. So while the lower offers may have changed the outcome, you cannot fault her for going for the 500K. Brilliant start if anything.
@@ArcienPlaysGames Sometimes taking a risk is worth it, especially with a life-changing amount of money. Sure, it may not always work out, but that doesn't mean it was the wrong decision in the moment.

Any contestant without a time advantage is always going to be up against it, because the contestant goes first - so assuming the average length of each question is the same on both sides, if the chasers get all theirs right then you're toast whatever you do. You really need an advantage of about 5 seconds just to counter the disadvantage of having to go first. 47 seconds would counter the disadvantage and then give you about a two question advantage, i.e. even if they get all theirs right you can afford to get two wrong and still win. So I'd probably have gone for the five chaser offer - £100k is still a lot of money but you have a MUCH better chance. Pointless ever going for 6 chasers cos you need to get every question right plus hope chasers get at least 1 wrong otherwise you will run out of time first cos you get the first question.
The difference between 1 of 4 chasers knowing the answer and 1 of 6 chasers knowing the answer is minimal. However, you increase the chance of wrong person answers by a lot with 6 vs 4 and the Chasers know this, so they will be slightly more hesitant in answering.
In all game or quiz shows that involves answering questions. It is all about the odds, the right person being there answering the perfect questions that they happen to know answer for. So someone might have got all questions right and gone home with half a million quid. And someone else might have gone home empty handed etc. In theory it is a trap to lure you in with big money offers. But also as well on the on the other hand.
Thats why it's half a million
Hold on how is this Series 4 when Darragh is a chaser.
Darragh joined Beat The Chasers in series 3 when Paul was ill. Series 4 was recorded in summer 2021.
Could have been for 10mil but she never gonna beat all 6 with the same time is she lool
Could you with your bum juice?
So sad she lost £500,000. Good try tho
Anne just awesome yet again
Well, that was close 😆
5:05 Lose
Some mudders do have em
All 6 having a full 60 seconds is too much of an advantage for them. Should’ve only been another 3 seconds for 50.
😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂
Seen this start. Surely not ????
Well that's why they award half a million!
but she gets half a million if she wins
She would have won a lot of money, more money than 99.9% of uk game show contestants will ever be offered
Not 500,000 to bigger
I honestly really seriously do not get why there hasn’t been another episode where a contestant plays for this much and instead actually wins it 😢😢
Because they have no interest in losing all this money
They have to get 5 questions right in the cash builder first, I’ve never seen anyone else get 5 right before
In all game or quiz shows that involves answering questions. U might as well have a go and take up that big money offer as contestants alway say your only here once
Paul 😂😂 02:17
44 for 50k Perfect
All the chasers look fucking missrable
miserable*
I don't think you can really talk shit with that grammar mate
@@markn.7914 It's one typo moron, it isn't a grammar mistake they knew what they mean to type, and if you're gonna talk about grammar why didn't you use a full stop, a mistake using a computer isn't the same as writing, as you can't miswrite a letter, typos happen however.
@@bobbob6978 Ohhhh, someone's in a mood, oh! Talk about a mood!
how?
who win this game?
The chasers.
I think if someone got all 6 ?'s right, if they beat the chasers they get £500,000 if the chasers beat them they still get £250,000
No, they leave with nothing if their clock runs out before the chasers’.
what sense would that make LMAO
She'd of got 30k if she wasn't so greedy
No she wouldn't. She wasn't quick enough.
not really even being greedy since if you walked in with nothing and you leave with nothing, then you've lost nothing. I'd rather go out in a blaze of glory
go big or go home
What a shame 😢
Silly Girl, She would have easy won 30k with 20secs time advantage
She got her ass handed to her, lost by 29 seconds
I’d be happy with 5k
Pointless video when it wasn't even close
Greed won again.
Come on it was worth a go with £500 million. A big gap between the top offer and the second highest offer. She’d have probably lost with the smaller offers aswell so she was right to go for it.
Gambling can sometimes be a good thing
The largest time advantage was 22 seconds, she lost by 29 she was screwed no matter what
Those questions were hard for her you little cheat
They weren't that hard. I knew half of them. It's the time pressure of being under.a timer.
@@darrenpimlottSo you didn't know half of them, then? Do you think you win if you don't know half of them ...
So is the amount she would have won. Nothing comes easy. 😂😂😂😂🤷♂️🤷♂️
Greedy got the better of her plus she the questions weren’t the best for her. Pressure she really should have thought about this
To be fair, even if she went for the 5000 pounds she still would've more than likely run out of time before the Chasers, she had a long string of incorrect answers which were ultimately her undoing.
@@markymark443 yeah I know I suppose your only there once. You have to be so clever to beat all 5 of them and get a tremendous amount of luck with the questions
The problem with this programme is most of the time the contestants don’t take the correct offer for them. They always go for more money or listen to their friends or don’t think things through properly. Thats what happened in this case.
@@DAN44100 I agree
That was such a a ridiculous decision
You never know the outcome.. The chasers might mess up! You just don't know UNTIL you do it.
In hindsight maybe, but you never know in the moment.
@@jojobee42 Don't be stupid. Playing against 6 whilst going 1st actually puts you at a time disadvantage, which is the only thing other contestants usually have over the chasers.
@@rosscleary9110 The point of the person you mentioned still stand: "The chasers might mess up! You just don't know UNTIL you do it". See: hindsight bias
@@rosscleary9110why does going first put you at a time disadvantage?
so bad
Rachel riley could have beaten all the chasers if she had the chance.
Heaven's sake. Whooping, cheering and a standing ovation? She failed. Miserably. After saying yeah i'll have a go at some free money. Isn't she brave? 😂 This is not a U.S show thank you
Hey Kevin, just wondering if you're thinking of going up there at all in the not-too-distant future? Seeing as you have such a big mouth, you should probably stick to offroading, it would appear that you share the same level of intelligence of people who enjoy that hobby 👍
@@CSRLaunchpad Hey Mr Pad. You're clearly very perceptive, well done for that. It's probably best you keep your wonderings to yourself, and perhaps mind your own business? Thanks for reaching out though.
@@kktomm A friendly suggestion then, please watch more of Beat the Chasers and you'll see how many people really go for 6. Have a good day.
@kevinmoore2696 you're an absolute massive disgrace to Kevin's. Ya big hill
Bot account. Red Blooded americans understand and appreciate a thing or two about bravery and the chance to overcome overwhelming odds.
I can’t believe that this is the only episode of beat the chasers that’s for half a million why isn’t there been another episode of this like with of a man and he wins not being sexist she was just unlucky lol cause there’s been a couple if not a few episodes on deal or no deal with the jackpot at the hjghest being been for £500,000 now if they won that on there won that on here and went on who wants to be a millionaire sire they’d be be £2M rich/richer lol
What's her gender got to do with anything
Jesus fucking Christ learn how to use punctuation. Your comment is unreadable you illiterate waste of oxygen.
Skill Issue
She was being greedy Yes I am judgmental
Perhaps just mental, for commenting on a quiz show video twice 5 days apart
@@pgp519 perhaps mental like you for being on here to put a comment Still I feel very lucky to know another mental person, like yourself on here, thank you for making my day. Happy Christmas Oh! mental one
@paulahowse6543 indeed same here, happy Christmas, I hope we can watch the chase together whilst chucking down a can of roast dinner
Deserved to lose for being GREEDY!
Or she wanted to have fun and an enjoyable experience. Imagine being this judgmental.
