That's a lot less than the factor a 5 difference between the correct answer and Rachel's guess. £50 was still a lot of money after the devaluation in the early 70's.

If Rachel was looking at the middle two values, 3 chasers made more sense. An entire extra chaser doesn't seem worth it for only a £10,000 increase and 2 extra seconds.
Only a 10k increase is 50% more, and only 33% more jeopardy adding another chaser. Even with the 2 second offset, mathematically 30k was the better option for risk and reward.
She really should have taken the 30 grand offer. it's 10 grand more for only two seconds more time. Although she did get lucky with quite a few wrong answers from the Chasers that tipped the clocks in her favour.

Rachel is so good when it is necessary to take a guess. All the first questions were guess questions. I have seen her do this in the Chase before.
