I apologize for the bad audio/video quality - I used my phone to vlog while I was out, and I didn’t originally plan to make a video so I didn’t bring a mic or lighting. Hope you guys enjoyed it anyway! 😊
You did great! Gave me a couple of pointers I would have never thought about taking pictures.. thank you! LOVE your insight.. love these video's.. they really help..
So nice to see a video from you, i trust you and your two angels are well. Id love to see more videos showing different ways we can get good stock photos and videos of well known places.
I'm so happy you came back, I discovered your channel when you left and it was super helpful, thank you!. I would like to watch updates of your videos from years ago and I would love to see a video with your opinion about adobe stock.
Hi Nicole. Glad to see that you're back. You've been missed. Yes, love to see more videos about stock photo and video. Can't tell about the others, but for me you are very inspiring. Thank you.
Nicole, glad you are making videos again. And yes, I like this type of video. Very helpful and useful info and enjoyable to see someone else doing what I enjoy doing.
Hi Nicole, wow you're back !! I'm REALLY happy. Hope your little ones are doing good. I like this quick podcast. Great easy ideas and great comments. I'm always looking forward to your videos. THANK you :)
I liked that you shared your thoughts of what to photograph and why. More of that please 😊. My own videos on Pond5 suck so any inspiration is welcome...
Nice to see you back! Great video too. Maybe you could do a little instruction on shooting time lapses and long exposures? Your walk around DC and commenting is great as there is a lot to see there ! TFS 😊
Nice to see you back. I really like this type of video. I guess it would fall in vlog style video. That's not to say that I didn't like the ones where you are sitting in a room talking about stock photography. I'm a stock photographer, so it's nice to see how others approach their work for stock photography.
Great video - thank you! Very nice to have you back, feels like...."old times"? I would love if you wanted to talk about the state of the different specific agencies you and others upload to. That might be pretty "involved" I guess (where do photos do better or where do video clips do better, what sort of subject matter does better at different agencies etc - what's the latest on blackbox?). Just ideas...but I love all your videos!
Good to have you back making videos. This is great - I would enjoy seeing more content like this. Most urban areas, and particularly major capital cities, offer a huge amount of potential stock content for anyone who is able to approach the challenge with some imagination and creativity. How about building on the idea with some videos where you explore certain neighbourhoods and areas and set yourself a challenge relating to shooting a certain amount or type/variety of content?
I'd love to see some videos on your editing workflow for stock platforms. Coming from shooting log or with a flat image profile, I'm never sure how far to push things when color grading.
I could definitely do that, although I feel like my editing workflow is pretty boring. I don't do too much editing to stock videos, mostly just basic color corrections, stabilization and I'll sometimes slow 60fps clips down, depending on the content.
Hello Nicole, I found you awhile back, and then I watched the video where you said you would be leaving for awhile. I just wanted to say that you are an incredibly likable person. I'm not sure what direction you should take, but I'd be willing to watch you do just about anything. You just seem like a very nice person and the way you present is very accessible. If I had to pick, I'd love to see you try things that you're not comfortable with. Like street photography or drone photography. Watching someone like you learn a new skill is always interesting
Yay :D I'm glade you're back Can you maybe make a video about recording timelapses? Will the timelapses shoot with the mobile phone be accepted on stock platforms?
Now that I am retired, I have been thinking about producing some stock photos/videos. As I have never done that before, this video is very helpful. I look forward to more.
Hi Nicole, I retired from IT work some years ago and have been uploading photos and timelapse clips to some stock houses. More videos like this from you would help me on my way. Thanks!!
Hi Nicole, liked the informative video. FYI, due to the potential for people using a tripod to mount a weapon on it in D.C., the Park Service requires that you get a permit to use a tripod.
Maybe it depends where you’re photographing, but I’ve photographed all over the DC area near and inside the monuments with a tripod and have never been told anything by Park Service (or Capitol Police). They’ve definitely watched me, but they’ve never even approached me to tell me about any restrictions. I’ve seen plenty of other photographers using tripods too.
Hi Nicole, glad to see you making videos again. Was wondering what kind of drone you have or would you recommend for stock photography/video? Also I found this video very helpful. You gave me some ideas of what to shoot. Thank you!
I started out with a DJI Phantom 4 Pro (discontinued) and am using a DJI Air 2S now. But there’s plenty of good drones out there, this is just what I used/use.
Your district taco bowl! Looks so good - what did you order? I want to try that! I love District Taco too, but they need to bring back their salsa bar...
This was great overall! I’ve taken photos around my area of various landmarks and completely never thought about the value that news organizations or other writers could see in them. This really helped me, now I need to get posting. How much editing do you do to your photos on post?
I’m glad it was helpful! For editorial photos I don’t do too much editing - just a little color correction. For commercial photos I will sometimes do a little more editing and remove any logos on clothing and things like that.
Hope you enjoyed the Taco Salad Nicole - I need to get out and about like this. I'm interested in how to time-lapse with a camera and to ask why use a camera instead of a go pro?
Hey! I'm a beginner and was wondering: It's not necessary a sort of model release for people in protests? How the platforms distinguishes content in this regard (required vs. non required release)?
The video and audio are fine for this. I live in a state capital so I'm able to capture some political content but not as much as DC. One the good side, I have sold a decent about of stock of my captial building. While traveling, if I'm in a state capital, I try to snag some footage and have sold some.
That's great that you have some content to shoot. Yeah DC is always a hotspot of activity but there's always something worth shooting in other cities as well.
So glad I found your channel. Trying to get more experience in photography and getting into that career field in the DC area! Do you think Stock photography would be a good way to practice my photography and editing skills? Earning a few bucks for practicing sounds great
Welcome to the area! And the answer is yes if you focus on both photo and video (video is more lucrative). Search for political happenings, interesting places and find different ways to show off the places that have been documented many times already. Best of luck to you !! It’s a fun city to live in.
Thanks for the very educational video. Do you have any suggestions for the metadata of the editorial material? Or any special requirements? Is it true that it cannot be retouched?
Hmm I just did a quick google news search and San Diego had a pretty newsworthy protest in October. It might not be as frequent but stuff still happens.
Love your videos! Question. I am American expat and have a few decent photos, or so been told. I would love to earn some passive income like this, but totally new to the process. I just now tried to upload a handful of photos but was told they are too small. Do you have suggestions on how I can resize my images to the 4 megapixels required? Thanks so much!
Considering the capabilities of AI to generate images, do you think this marks the end of the era for stock photography, or is there still a unique value it offers?
Hi Nicole. Do you ever get harassed when shooting imagery around political events or locations? I'm in Canada and am tempted to head into Toronto or Ottawa to shoot various shenanigans. BTW, your idea about shooting signs was darn good. When do you upload? How long should a video clip be in your experience? (I've only uploaded stock video. I watched a video of yours a while back when I think you said you were giving up on stock photos as there was no money in it.) Thanks for the video.
Regarding your first question: only once in my life. There were 2 protests happening in DC, a MAGA Rally and a BLM protest. Someone threatened to destroy my camera if I took pictures. But other than that, nothing has ever happened - I'm usually pretty sensitive to what's going on and I try not to stand out too much. That means I'll sometimes use a small inconspicuous lens or even just my phone if I don't want to draw attention (like when I saw someone burn a car once.... that was intense). Video clips should be 5-60 seconds generally. I often upload 10-ish second clips.
