Impressive video. The lack of pauses in your presentation suggest you scripted and planned this presentation. I'm glad I watched; thank you for the presentation.
Hey ICU! I had a question. Do you recommend the new Retina Display MacBook Pro for games. I only had one in mind and its The Sims 3. Please, I need to know before I make the wrong decision! Thank You for your time!
thanks for the review! def helped clear some things up. i am simply tired of my pc's having issues and having to get them wiped out and start all over. considering I don't do much besides downloads, browsing and college homework I think the air is better suited for me
Just g-bought a MacBook air 13"mid 2012" and found this demo very instructive.i'll challenge my son who bought a M//B/retina full equipped and paid four times the price. Guess it's OK since he's making a living with is mac while i am just using mine for personal purpose. Anyhow we're both very satisfied with thiese beasts. We came a long way since my first Macintiosh S/E 3whose retail price was 4900$ in1984....
I got this video i made for a friend of mine but i need to blurr out a couple things is there a software for windows PC for that? if yes what software is it?
If you're going game design, you'd best look for something with a discrete graphics chip in it, like the 15 inch Retina MBP (I'm not quite sure the 13 inch will cut it for game design). Business studies should be able to use the Macbook Air no problem, since you'd be doing a lot of word processing, spreadsheets, and web research. My opinion is don't pay much attention to the ppi spec on these screens, but use hardware instead as a guide.
I just love the fact when he zooms into the Macbook Air to show the spec in the beginning you can see squares & lines in the display but you can't see it on the retina if you rewind it. *drools*
which model macbook air is this? cause I have the 2012 13" macbook air that is priced at 1200 and comes with 128GB SSD and mine has 512mb of Intel 4000...
What is the ssd capacity in the macbook air? 128, 256Gb.... samsung, toshiba... I don't know why but my " mid 2012 " macbook air has 512mb of vram instead of 384mb of yours. Sorry for my bad english.
The HD4000 does NOT have dedicated memory, nor is it a dedicated GPU! The memory is shared with the RAM which is considerably slower than dedicated graphics memory. (GDDR5)
does the MB Air have a longer battery life than the MBP without retina when doing just the minor stuff like browsing for hours and no gaming or other heavy IT things. Just normal stuffs done on the net
thanks for the video it cleared the main differences between these two laptops. Great video!! To me the hi price of the macbook pro retina isnt justify for the kind of things i will be doing with it so i gues it will be the i7 macbook air.
Of course MBP will have better performance compare to MBA. Memory alone there's a big disparity, 16GB for the MBP vs. 4GB on the MBA. Processor too is way different too, Core i7 quad core for the MBP against Core i5 dual core. It would be interesting if you can compare MBP Retina against a maxed MBA (Core i7 Dual Core and 8GB of RAM) and run the same tests.
10.8 will continue to receive updates from Apple for longer. (there are some minor differences and I think the newer OS is more RAM considerate) Unfortunately my system is still 10.6 and does not supply me updates. :/
really memory is why they don't compare...that's the defining reason? It has nothing todo with duo vs quad? Also...I would very much call the 11" MBA a netbook...while the 13"is an Ultra. Hate much?
i hate it when people say that about the macbook air. you can do considerably more than just typing emails or browsing the web, that's chromebook territory. my aunt uses exclusively a macbook air and she does extensive book publishing and photoshop and she has no complains about the performance. calling a air a netbook is just not right. the hd4000 graphics can even play most games, albeit not at the highest detail settings
isnt this slightly unfair??youv got the upgraded macbook pro rentina, yet your using the basic macbook air. would it not be fairer to compare the upgraded macbook air i7 and the base model of the pro.???
hey man i think Mountain Lion is slowing down a lot your MBKAIR because i have the 2011 model Processor 1.7 GHz Intel Core i5, Memory 4 GB 1333 MHz DDR3, Graphics Intel HD Graphics 3000 384 MB and it reboots in 20s and power up in 23s and its running OS X Lion.
I need help I'm 18 on about a $750 dollar budget. I will be buying a used macbook air 2013 or macbook pro (non retina) 2012. Which is the better option. I'm going to college and will be using it for school work and also be using it to edit and render videos.
The MacBook Air would be better for college students because it's very light and easy to carry around. But the pro is heavier, and really no need for one [(Unless you are going to do heavy use on it, like gaming.) But gaming isn't really for Macs.]

Yeah.. do you know any site that has a comparison between the 2012 Macbook Air 11" i7 Dual-Core 2.0GHz, 8GB RAM and 512GB Storage and the 2012 Retina Macbook Pro i7 Quad-Core 2.3GHz, 8GB RAM and 512GB Storage?? Because I need that amount of RAM and disk but I don't know how well the Macbook Air CPU performs and the difference is just 550U$D.
Mac book air may be the same size as a net book but it's no net book. Also the test was run on the inbuilt graphics on the mac book pro. Not in the nvidia card!
I think a 13" Macbook Air 2.0 ghz i7 8gb RAM vs. a 13" 2.5 ghz i5 8gb Macbook Pro Retina would be a better comparison. Or even the 11" 2.0ghz i7 with 8gb. the i5 and the i7's in the 13" Retina Pro are both dual core. You get little difference between the two.
just saying, this isn't really a fair fight since the retina display macbook uses more power than the macbook air since it's running the retina display... a fair fight would be the new 2012 non-retina display macbook pro vs. the 2012 macbook air
OS Ten. The 'X' is a roman numeral. Great video otherwise! All of the info I have been looking for. I just ordered my retina macbook pro with 768GB SSD and 16GB of ram.
Well to make it a fair test....the macbooks are supposed to be like a new one. No apps or anything was installed or could decrease the amount of space in the hard drives...And also ALMOST there is no difference in their specs :D
It's not exacty fair to have 16GB of ram on the MacBook Pro and only 4GB of ram on the MacBook Air. Ram has a huge part in speed and how much you can run at once.
Impressive video. The lack of pauses in your presentation suggest you scripted and planned this presentation. I'm glad I watched; thank you for the presentation.
damn , u can really tell the difference between the screens , the retina's color densitys is just intense , its so detailed.
Actually it's very helpful to know seeing as it can show you whether it's ideal for your needs.
@iCrackUriDevice all "VS" videos should be done like this one, very well made, clean and very informative
(i already subscribed)
get the pro, just bought it yesterday, it's a beast!
Hey ICU! I had a question. Do you recommend the new Retina Display MacBook Pro for games. I only had one in mind and its The Sims 3. Please, I need to know before I make the wrong decision! Thank You for your time!
100th man congrats!
Quick, to the point. Great video! Not a bunch of bullcrap talking. I'm trying to make a decision from these two--I'm leaning towards the Pro.
Which one would be better for school purposes and for a lot of storage space?
With these new specs, are Macs finally good enough for gaming? I can't imagine the fans being enough.
thanks for the review! def helped clear some things up. i am simply tired of my pc's having issues and having to get them wiped out and start all over. considering I don't do much besides downloads, browsing and college homework I think the air is better suited for me
which mac would you recommend for a freshman college student?
Nice video tanner! hmm? the MacBook Pro is just too expensive so ill go with the MackBook Air instead
Just g-bought a MacBook air 13"mid 2012" and found this demo very instructive.i'll challenge my son who bought a M//B/retina full equipped and paid four times the price. Dam your awesome dude!! keep up the great work on all your videos!!!
if the macbook air is majorly used for things such as surfing on the web and typing and such, isn't the much favorable option is to get an ipad?
which will last four years of college???
and be a better fit for a college student
Hey do u think apple will come out with a MacBook air for $799 and if so when?
MacBook Air or MacBook Pro retina for school work, editing videos, watching movies and going on Internet?
The MacBook Air is truly a beautiful looking piece of tech.
I got this video i made for a friend of mine but i need to blurr out a couple things is there a software for windows PC for that? if yes what software is it?
have you had any issues with the retina screen?
Dude how did u no i want a video of this cuz i wasnt sure if to get a macbook pro or air thanks alot
may I ask whether the retina you have is using an LG or Samsung panel?
i'm jealous of all those people on TH-cam who can afford to do a review of every new and cool product being released.

if i want a computer to just wonder around on the internet or just sometimes try out some games which one of them is better?
I7 16gb of ram vs i5 4 gb of ram obviously MacBook Pro is going to work
do this more often with products:) it was cool
does anyone have a guess at when the 2013 macbook pro are coming out because i fell like i should wait to get one.
May I ask the difference between a Mac OS X v10.7 lion and a OS X v10.8 Mountain Lion? Or are these two just the same?
I just love the fact when he zooms into the Macbook Air to show the spec in the beginning you can see squares & lines in the display but you can't see it on the retina if you rewind it. *drools*
dang, what version of windows is it running and how old is it? my old pc could boot in about a minute and a half
It's just to give people an idea of their performances, it's not supposed to be a 'competition'.
what editing software do you use?
I really doubt the GT650 would only come up as 150. are you sure it's using the GT650m or the intel integrated?
which model macbook air is this? cause I have the 2012 13" macbook air that is priced at 1200 and comes with 128GB SSD and mine has 512mb of Intel 4000...

Sorry for my bad english.
Great video bro
which one would you recconmend for school?
That MBPr spanked my Dell XPS 17 in NovaBench. Got an overall score of 862.
16gb of ram vs. 4gb ram
quad core i7 vs. dual core i5 ? what is this ? why would you compare it?
The HD4000 does NOT have dedicated memory, nor is it a dedicated GPU! The memory is shared with the RAM which is considerably slower than dedicated graphics memory. (GDDR5)
@iCrackuridevice great video.. I appreciate the effort you put into each and every video you upload!
Thanks, helps me make my choice : Air !
i'm wondering if macbook air is suitable for a programming..
does the MB Air have a longer battery life than the MBP without retina when doing just the minor stuff like browsing for hours and no gaming or other heavy IT things. Just normal stuffs done on the net
Nice comparison
I enjoy your videos but everyone wants to know how can all this be purchased within a few weeks months apart from each other??
thanks for the video it cleared the main differences between these two laptops. Great video!!

the new air or the new 13inch mbp they are coming

HEY!, WHATSS YOUR CAMERA!
your review is very good but retina is with extra amount of power. you should compare both models with base model than comparison will be on bias
That new Norton ad xD
Why not? I had my first computer when I turned 8.
Lamborghini Aventador vs Honda Civic. Very stupid comparison test.
nice review
Mac book air may be the same size as a net book but it's no net book. Also the test was run on the inbuilt graphics on the mac book pro. Not in the nvidia card!
ipod touch 5g icu thanks bro!
hey how do you edit your video?
I think a 13" Macbook Air 2.0 ghz i7 8gb RAM vs. a 13" 2.5 ghz i5 8gb Macbook Pro Retina would be a better comparison. Or even the 11" 2.0ghz i7 with 8gb. the i5 and the i7's in the 13" Retina Pro are both dual core. You get little difference between the two.
thanks buddy, i got what i wanted.
even if everything was disabled, the ssd in the computer has to set up all the programs installed to be able to be opened.
how you blocked off the serial number what software did u use
I love the regular pro
you can actually see the difference due to the retina display
What size is the screen on the macbook air?
how many times have u had this question asked to you?
is that the 13 inch because i thought the 13 inch just came with the 4000 grahphics
beautiful video tnx a million
just saying, this isn't really a fair fight since the retina display macbook uses more power than the macbook air since it's running the retina display... a fair fight would be the new 2012 non-retina display macbook pro vs. the 2012 macbook air
I'd go for the pro
Whens the fiveaway?
OS Ten.
The 'X' is a roman numeral.
Great video otherwise! All of the info I have been looking for. I just ordered my retina macbook pro with 768GB SSD and 16GB of ram.
After being used to my 15" screen, I just don't think I could go down to a 13" regardless of any other reason to get the Pro instead lol.
why would you use a mac for gaming at all?
Itd be kind of a hard choice, but I think I'd go air.
great recommendation.
no kiding, there both so sweet
would have been much better comparison if the Mac Air was not housing basic specs
now i jus want it more how much is it
Cool I just got one need more info
Well to make it a fair test....the macbooks are supposed to be like a new one. No apps or anything was installed or could decrease the amount of space in the hard drives...And also ALMOST there is no difference in their specs :D
how did you get mountain lion?
very informitive thanks
The MacBook Air had a dual core i5 and it was only a tiny bit behind, imagine it with an i7 with turbo boost and hyper threading
Alright, I now have finished watching the video xD
It's not exacty fair to have 16GB of ram on the MacBook Pro and only 4GB of ram on the MacBook Air. Ram has a huge part in speed and how much you can run at once.
I got the MacBook Pro retina 15" 16 ram 512 ssd......for web browsing
