My son pointed out an interesting fact about Tesla charging, in fact about all EV charging stations. They only tell you how many charging stations are in use but they don’t tell you how many cars are in the Queue. So when you get to that charging station there are a line of cars in front of you. Maybe Tesla can do something to help address this issue by adding that to their app to keep people from going to these stations when they are really busy especially after they start opening up to other non Tesla vehicles. Again I stress that cameras should be installed at Tesla’s charging stations not only for safety to help protect people who have to charge late at night, but add that capability to the Tesla app so that people can actually see how many cars are in the queue.

My Tesla M3 has supercharged 5 times in the last week during 2 road trips.
Every time I pulled into the charging station, it took me 2 seconds to plug in the car, go for a comfort break and then got back on the road in about 20 minutes.
    Easy Peasy.

Another great video! I like how you not only cover charging stations but also cover the use of them as production and storage power stations that can make money without charging cars. I look forward to Tesla adding solar and mega packs at most of their charging stations. I seldom see either at the stations I visit. Now with every trip I make in the central US (about every 3 months), I see new Tesla Supercharger stations that add flexibility to my route and trip.

Hi Lars, I want to leave a positive counterpoint for EA charging stations. I drove 500 miles from San Francisco to San Diego for the Fully Charged convention (nice to see you there). I charged almost exclusively at EA without any problems. The closest thing to a problem was that somebody had vandalized the screen at the first charging stop, making it unreadable. Fortunately, EA was providing free charging on my travel days and it was no hassle to charge up my Niro EV even without seeing the screen.

*Tesla* makes very profitable *EVs* and the *SuperCharger* network is part of the _servicing_ cost, but instead of _breakables and powertrain repair_ they provide *_charging._*
*_Charging_* infrastructure remains long after _breakables and powertrain repair_ have driven out of the _stealership_ on their way to the next accident or gas/petrol station.

Lars, serious question, what's the EV equivalent of a 20L gerry can?
There are many places here where ICE vehicles need to carry fuel in gerry cans because ICE don't have enough range between fuel stations, so as EV's have a shorter range we would need to carry some sort of portable fast charger that can recharge the EV, It would need to be about the same size and weight as a full gerry can and able to give ~20KW.

Lars, your use of the Texas data to get the cost of Superchargers is logically wrong. Tesla asked for $30k subsidy per station. We really don't know what their costs are. They may have wanted to get more stations subsidized by asking for less per station. Maybe they had already locked in low- or no-cost sites. No doubt, Tesla is more efficient, but not by a factor of 5 or more for what is basically normal electrical and computer control gear.

If Tesla cant get this right, FSD is never ever going to happend. I have dropped the idea of using selfsteer when its dark, which = approx 180 of 200 Km daily driving when we change to wintertime. I think Tesla will never be able to fulfill the CT orders rapidly enough for it to really matter, with the Indonesia and New Calidonia supplies in the works for batteries, may only fluctuate because of other market factors that the ss industry itself has nationally and internationally. I wonder if CT will ever be made anywhere outside of Texas.

I was thinking about the Apple/ Tesla comparisons and their comparative business models. Other than the fact both have a minimal product range and a product/service ecosystem I don't really think they're really that similar at all?
Apple has about 900 million Iphone users Tesla has sold about 2 million units thus far. So even though Tesla has an onboard ecosystem which can upsell apps and games etc there is really no comparison or at least not for a long long time?
In fact considering what both companies do technologically it's surprising that Tesla far exceeds Apple as far as vertical integration is concerned. It's not unfair to say that Apple does key research and development but almost all its manufacturing and fabrication is done by 3rd Parties. Whereas Tesla is almost manic in its quest to vertically integrate every aspect of manufacturing, fabrication, research, development and production in house.
Now one thing many analysts seem to miss regarding Tesla and Apple is how much Tesla needs to be able to sell to match Apples gross sales. Now on the face of it you would think Apple is in an unassailable position gross revenues of 387 billion and a net profit of 94 billion is a massive result well up on 2020.
But Tesla surprisingly is no slouch either with a gross revenue of 54 billion and a net income of 5.4 billion now I wonder how long will it take Tesla to reach say 540 billion or 10 x their current gross revenue?
If we were to divide that by the number of cars manufactured and sold maybe 10-12 million? So if Tesla were to meet the expectations of Elon and reach a run rate of 20 million cars by 2030. Tesla will be one of the biggest companies in the world based on Gross Revenue. And if their margin continues to improve their current net profit of 10% could be as high as 15-20%?
Either way whether Tesla is making a net profit of 50 billion or a 100 Billion the next 5-10 years are going to be extremely interesting for all Tesla Investors.

This time what went on in Vegas will not stay in Vegas!!
I met both Britney Spears and Elon Musk in 2000 at Bellagio. Britney just stared at me as she was singing on stage and I was standing in an archway above and nearby. I'm not sure if I was supposed to be standing up there by myself but I did have her undivided attention. A few days later Elon came up to me and started asking me questions about what I was doing there, in Las Vegas and Hawaii during that time. If I would I be fine answering a few questions. And if I was a gambling man? I stated, "I was on vacation and I only like to bet on things that are worth betting on!" I had earned these trips by qualifying reward points at my work. He asked, "What kind of work is it that you do?" I said, "Commercial energy saving promotions but I had been schooled in Automotive Marketing Business Administration and worked in that field for several years as well." He asked me, "If I had millions of dollars to spend what would be the most innovative businesses that could help humanity?" We talked about electric cars, we talked about solar energy and so many other subjects for over an hour. Even commercial space exploration for the consideration of colonization. That way all of humanity's eggs are not in one basket in case of another world war, asteroid strike, major climate change, etc. These we're very expensive and ambitious businesses to become successful at. Therefore we had to talk about ways of keeping a low overhead in advertising, distribution and the manufacturing. He said, "They were all very good ideas and that they should be done!" He said he had already made hundreds of millions off of a couple internet companies he started. "One of them was PayPal," he stated. Not that I had really done a lot of online banking or e-transfers at that time I didn't think much of it, until I noticed online about a year later that I could buy something off the computer with my PayPal card! Unfortunately I had just received a promotion as regional manager with the company I was working with. This made me let Elon know that I had to wait for a few years before I could assist further. I keep on sending out messages, hoping that he will get one and reply back. I will probably have to keep on trying, he gets more messages in a day then I would in five years! It is very inspiring to me to have a conversation with someone and they dedicate the next 20 years to making our conversation reality! We also talked about becoming your own best supplier and starting businesses that help your existing business. A type of slingshot effect that he has incorporated very well. It is so ambitious and amazing that he was willing to put pretty much all of his money where his mouth is and just make it happen with a consistent dedication. Congratulations Elon and I am looking forward to working with you again, one day in the near future! I still come up with innovative business ideas on a daily basis. Of course Britney I always wish her well and would enjoy meeting her again as well. We will shoot for the Moon then Mars and then we will end up amongst the Stars! If you would like to learn more of these topics let me know. People with integrity expect to be believed otherwise they let time prove them right!

The nice thing about the swappable battery pack is you never have to worry the heart of the car will ever fail , the cost of the battery being leased if choosing that option it reduces the car price great , also the car they have now will do over 1000km and are not effected by temperatures. The owner of Nio is a carbon copy of Elon. Their cars actually have more tech then tesla and already have a great line up .

I don't think so. Supercharging gets faster every year, if it was stuck where it is I think Tesla would have adopted swap technology but it is just not necessary and gets less competitive as charging improves. Battery swap doesn't scale like Supercharging does.

@@garethrobinson2275 the swapping stations do a swap in under 10 minutes at the most , and are pre-built in a factory and are dropped of in locations from the last presser at nio days the have 60,000 pre-built stations built and ready to be shipped , nor I have only driven the suv they make and have owned a s in the past , the suv did over a 1000km in the winter there and the ai system is just as good if not better then my s. But 10 minutes is stupid fast if a battery ever gets that way expect a super hot connection even now they get hot

TESLA becoming bigger might sound nice for Tesla fans. But i they would loose all competition..this would be a monopoly and without competition there will be no pressure to make Tesla better.

Tesla in way have a monopoly now - but it has not stopped them innovating and moving forward. Elon's motivation has transferred to those running the various operations, so I do not foresee a problem. Elon's forward thinking goes beyond his lifetime, and with committed teams, his dream will live on into the next millennium.
