The speech was long, rambling and disjointed: President Trump missed a golden opportunity to give a shorter, less self-indulgent and politically divisive speech in which he could have praised the patriotism and civic values of the US Scouts instead of shooting himself in the foot, so to speak. To be fair, the politics here in the UK sometimes seems to be a carnival of chaos with little hint of "strong & stable" leadership or an opposition that can offer more than mismanagement "for the many & not the few". I'm a boy scout I'm not a political person. I didn't go to jamboree but this speech made me uncomfortable. I'm not super anti Trump but I think the boy scouts and politics shouldn't be mixed well. But he's using this platform he's been given to talk about politics, how there's fake news, repealing Obamacare, energy, etc etc. We boy scouts are not a political group. I don't think any President who is invited to a jamboree should use that time for his or her political platform. BSA is and should always be nonpartisan so all kids and families can be part of scouting.

God, this makes me angry. I have been a scout for over 5 years, and have witnessed multiple presidents speaking at these events. This is sickening. He used a chance, that is supposed to be used to inspire young men and assure them that anything is possible with effort and a good spirit. instead, he used it to clown his opponents and slog everyone with propaganda and gas-lighting to make himself seem like a better president. For some time, I've thought of how sad it is that he had such a wonderful man as an influence, Norman Vincent Peale, and how that influence seemed to fade away once he met Roy Cohn. I've often wondered what his life would be like had he not met him or at least had stayed with the influence of Norman Vincent Peale. I have been a scout for over 5 years, and have witnessed multiple presidents speaking at these events.
This is sickening.
He used a chance, that is supposed to be used to inspire young men and assure them that anything is possible with effort and a good spirit.
instead, he used it to clown his opponents and slog everyone with propaganda and gas-lighting to make himself seem like a better president. He stood, in front of thousands of young men, who were waiting for a speech on who they could be and what they could do. instead, he threw that out of the window and told thousands of young men things they should be learning on there own.
He disrespected the scout oath and laws, and he should be put to shame.

For some time, I've thought of how sad it is that he had such a wonderful man as an influence, Norman Vincent Peale, and how that influence seemed to fade away once he met Roy Cohn. I've often wondered what his life would be like had he not met him or at least had stayed with the influence of Norman Vincent Peale. I grew up hearing of him and listening to cassette tapes of him and reading his book because my parents valued his teachings. I wish there were more men like him in the world today.
