You jogged a memory when you mentioned being ready to change plans on the fly. I went on a solo overnight backpacking trip about 35 years ago, picking a place I’d been to before, but not for awhile. I got a later start than was ideal, and once on the trail, well, I lost the trail, finding myself on a steep slope. It was also getting dark and very cold. I realized I would have to make do somehow. There weren’t any really flat places, but I found a spot just big enough for myself and my sleeping bag, up against a tree so I wouldn’t roll down the hill! I didn’t sleep comfortably, but I was warm enough. In the morning I decided that had been adventure enough, and took the shortest route back to my car, a picnic table and hot coffee!
Opening track was fire! Great selection! Also I work in auto claims and I wish people took half as much care as you do driving in these types of conditions.
I really enjoy you being who you are and nothing that your not.I would love to be able to see what it is like next to where you live just to see if you made it home okay.A lot of people would have took their best tent and stuff out when they are calling for bad weather. So thank you for being honest.

It’s the experience, both from the situation and your own past experience. I do camping/bushcraft stuff all the time when it rains or snows just to improve my techniques.
Cool story about Great Grandpa, and since most of them passed along similar stories, "brutal winters" and people working all year to prepare, plus we kids had similar frozen creek stories: it all adds up to winter being different these days. I bet Grandpa had a big old canvas roll, a wool blanket, and maybe a mule.
I must say, I did notice a different quality on the videos, and I love how crisp, light and accurate the colours are. Must be a great camera ! ;) Also, as others have pointed out: impressed by how good content you push out on a regular basis. Keep up the great work ! Love that you use metric system for distance; degrees as an European !

Hey Luke! Thanks for allowing those of us who aren't able to get out in nature that frequently. I'm vicariously living through your content while I'm going to school and working. Spring break is coming up, and I'll be making it out for some longer hikes.
Who leaves a good hatchet like that and their tent at the very least out there. Looked like the tent collapsed instead of taken down. Wonder if anyone went missing in that area..
When I saw the abandoned campsite my first thought was "they are planning to come back" rapidly followed by "they're not nice people to leave this garbage" then "seems they think they're all alone up here". Added up that equals meth-heads. Even with protection I'd be FTS- I'll find someplace else to set up for the night. Better to avoid fools than to have to deal with them.
@@Ez77-f9i jeez people sometimes leave mess, it’s not nice but it doesn’t necessarily mean drug addicts, missing people or other grim stuff, sure it’s good to plan ahead but everyone replying here seems to think it’s gospel that it’s definitely bad stuff

Such a mess they left... And looks like they spent money on stuff they just abandoned.. you probably couldn't show it on the screen but I hope you got the cordage and anything else you could utilise.. Great video again.. Luke Vs weather...
I doubt Luke would take their stuff, abandoned or not. He has quality gear and it could be argued that he'd be stealing (despite the very real appearance of abandonment). He's the type of guy that'd consolidate the trash for collection later.
Seeing that trash in the woods reminds me of the video @bluegabe and @kellyyoung put up about all of the trash in the ocean, the Indian with the tear streaming down his cheek from the commercial in the late 70’s about pollution really hit me hard. It’s so heartbreaking to see how people treat our Mother Earth.
40:28 Holy crap I almost freaked that broken tree stump on the right side looked like a tall skinny man for a second I thought!~ lol Damn! Slender Man! kidding!
Awesome adventure Luke, I never miss one!! I live vicariously through you!!! Camera quality is excellent, are you in bigfoot country? Strange how someone would dump such awesome camping gear..
I thought the same thing that Bigfoot scared them off. There were some quality items left like the small hatchet and the black rope seemed to be of mountaineering quality.
luke i really like your positive demeanor. you are smiling most times. you really love doing this and that is awsome. more power to you brother. keep on keeping on.
Budget gear challenge: stuff from the dollar store. Up here in The Great White North, Dollarama sells assorted camping tools and accessories. I’d love to see gear from that price bracket tested.
Every time Luke sits by the fire and talks to the camera I have a habit of looking over his shoulders to see if there’s an animal or another human being creeping up behind him.
I enjoy your videos, watch them all the time. Usually I am a bit jealous , new gear, great outdoors. But not this time, Come on, use your head, you are a smart experienced man. Be safe.
Maybe. But, to answer Stephanie's question; I watch a video without signing in to Google, until I get the urge to make a comment, how I seem to comment too early in a video, ahead of Luke's lead talking about his new camera.
One good option for freezing rain if you happen to be camping and caught in it, are cave bluffs and caves. Got caught out a time or two on Mt Leconte in TN and stayed under the cave bluffs till the freezing rain was done.

Picture quality is crystal clear
I must say, I did notice a different quality on the videos, and I love how crisp, light and accurate the colours are. Must be a great camera ! ;)
Also, as others have pointed out: impressed by how good content you push out on a regular basis. Keep up the great work !
Love that you use metric system for distance; degrees as an European !
I was never interested in the outdoors until I ran into this channel. I love the content!
Luke with that opening music I thought I was going to see fog machine , u dancing the night away
Your more experienced than me on out door living. Never leave home with out a tarp. New equipment in bad weather is a no go.. that’s how I see things. Your the pro
First thing I thought when I saw the reindeer stew was, "How did Santa get home?"
Uber.
He drove his Mercedes haven't you seen the commercials at Christmas time?
Jet Blue
Luke i have been with you and the channel. Fro. The beginning. I come a military back ground and. My family is from the mountains. When i go out i all ways pack. A weapon for my safety. Please becareful
I paused at 2:44 - My prediction, having read the description: NH tent’s toothpick poles will never stand up to ice, and Luke bails when it starts raining icicles.
Hey Luke! Thanks for allowing those of us who aren't able to get out in nature that frequently. I'm vicariously living through your content while I'm going to school and working. Spring break is coming up, and I'll be making it out for some longer hikes.
Am I the only one who thought, when he ran into the abandoned campsite, "Wow, someone got killed right there"?
Who leaves a good hatchet like that and their tent at the very least out there. Looked like the tent collapsed instead of taken down. Wonder if anyone went missing in that area..
Might have been a bear or booger. If you're traumatized, you're not coming back.
First thing I thought. Whoever bailed on that didn't do it because of the weather.
I thought a bear attack!!
Aliens.
Camera footage is very clear.Nice high definition, color is fine.👍
LOL at this guy. "ATTACKED BY AN ICE STORM." *rains*
Wow what an adventure glad you made it out safe until next time as you say strength and honor
"You have to be careful out in the middle of nowhere" - Yep, that's why my 12 gauge shotgun accompanies me out in the bush every time.
This was very educational! It shows us we need to be prepared for the worst and be smart.
I would check & see if anyone was reported missing in that general area.
It looked like it was abandoned in a hurry.
I was thinking bear attack.
So true, could be meth heads or dopers.
my immediate thought was homeless when he came up on it
@@Ez77-f9i jeez people sometimes leave mess, it’s not nice but it doesn’t necessarily mean drug addicts, missing people or other grim stuff, sure it’s good to plan ahead but everyone replying here seems to think it’s gospel that it’s definitely bad stuff
Amazing. Love these camps with storms approaching. Honest advice without corporate BS and it shows in the production. Thumbs up big time from Australia 👍🏻
@@gymkhanadog very true.. but for me you can never have enough cord...
And it all looked very very new and un used..
I’ve experienced “ thunder snow “ 3 times now .. it is AWESOME
Your right, but have no fear. Mother Earth will always have the last laugh ; floods, tornados, earthquakes, and so on.
Very bright and clear.
40:28 Holy crap I almost freaked that broken tree stump on the right side looked like a tall skinny man for a second I thought!~ lol Damn! Slender Man! kidding!
We called him the boogey man in my day.
You left camping at the best of times for camping ! Awwwwe!!!!!!
Yes! I thought the same.. nice hatchet, lots of good looking cordage, they even left their tent behind.. wonder what the heck happened?!
Even Montreal steak seasoning 😂
luke i really like your positive demeanor. you are smiling most times. you really love doing this and that is awsome. more power to you brother. keep on keeping on.
Dumping gear because it weighed to much to hike out with? People are such morons. Thanks for another fun adventure, Luke!
What a brave man sir love to watch your video so nice to camp be by your self carefull watching from philippines
Do you ever plan on making full meals again? I loved camping cooking but just adding water isn’t very exciting.
I agree, I loved the cooking
The color quality is great! The scenery looks to be the natural tone.
I'm used to quality footage on this channel. It's difficult to tell a difference from usual.
Budget gear challenge: stuff from the dollar store. Up here in The Great White North, Dollarama sells assorted camping tools and accessories. I’d love to see gear from that price bracket tested.
Even if there’s a chance of a thunderstorm, I’ll load a chainsaw and fuel in the truck.
I like this camera much better. Great clarity and crispness!
The camera seems to have great low-light capabilities!
Great camera. HD with great color. Couldn't ask for more.
Be safe.
3 mile loop in + placing the camera ahead + going back and retrieving the camera like 20 times = 12 miles total?
H.701...……………..especially that last shot leaving the camp site twice ?????? did he go back again ?
