Council tax is not a property tax, it's for services council provides to you as a person living a borough. Waste removal, cleaning streets etc. It makes more sense when you think about this this way.
Things I absolutely agree with: a) council tax is rude and unnecessary lol b) covid test expenses need to be done with asap c) my apartment is also taking months to finish furnishing/decorating 🙈
Council tax pays for things like waste removal, street cleaning, road maintenance, libraries, schools, coroners, courts, registry offices, education and youth services. Do you still think it's unnecessary?
@@meeds7473 it was meant to be a joke... what we mean is that in other countries those activities are either taxed to the property owner or covered by taxpayer money, it hurts a little more for the tenants to support this on top of monthly rent (which in London is already very high!)
@@JessicaVianaa Ah, I see what you mean! I guess it's because it's the tenant that actually uses those services? I dunno, I hate that I have to pay it too tbh but it's an easier pill to swallow when you know there's at least a good reason for it. Unless you live in a borough/town where services are crap and you're still paying no end for council tax! And yeah, rent in London is ridiculous - I used to pay £1280/mo for what may be the world's worst flat - but the location was decent at least
Thanks Monica! Really enjoy your videos and seeing London living through your eyes. I've been here for 3.5 years (started on the Tier 5 also), moved from Canada. Nowhere near as organised as you are with my finances, but getting by! One of my new year resolutions is to have more oversight of my spending. Can you do a video on income vs london living costs? I would love to hear your experience and views, even if it's in a general sense. Thanks again for putting out great content!
Can you drop your skincare routine?/what foundation do you use? Do you plan to spend more time in the UK or move to Canada? Do you find it difficult to make friends in a new country?
Will make a skincare/makeup vid soon! A bit complicated haha. And I'll talk more in detail about what you asked in a future vid but planning on staying in the UK for the next 3-4 years at least. 🤗
Hi Monica, just subscribed to your channel 😊 loved your videos. Yep, as an expat as well, I think your budget it's pretty good and realistic to London.
It pays for things like waste removal and cleaning the zone, as well as for libraries etc. It's expensive but I think its worth it for all the things it can do for people living in the Borough, sometimes food banks and things have money from them!
If you are the only one there you get single discount but it's the money used to take your bins and recycling, keep the area clean, and maintain parks etc property tax is completely different and happens when you buy a house. Not sure who told you it's like property tax, that's weird as it's money for your community. So it might be a lil high but it's worth it. Hope you are liking London. I recommend going to places like 'my neighbours the dumplings" The Ned is just hella pricey and food is just okay. You can get better food at non fancy places. Also recommend the Tate modern and Barbican and even their memberships. It's super affordable I spent £59 for the year at the Barbican and get free tickets to shows, discount on drinks so I just go to something once a month as I love exhibitions. We have soo many free exhibitions in London anyway Enjoy London - it's a great place to experience
Hmmm really depends on where in central london your job is and your budget, but I would suggest looking at what tube station your work is near and finding a place along that tube line.

Council tax is the worst… As a Canadian in London it’s one of the most painful parts 😅
Yes! It feels so wrong 😂

@@MonicaXGuan Thank you so much 🙏🏼🥰🤗
Hi! Nice video! What app do you use for tracking your budget/spendings?
I don't use an app but I have my own budget spreadsheet that I share here: th-cam.com/video/vSjXyeipnZI/w-d-xo.html
Ahhh I'm moving to London in April!!! I'm such a chaotic spender with clothes and food so looks like I'll be suffering 😂😭
Haha good luck with your move! But gotta be careful in London 💸
Love this. I wanted to ask what is your job? x
I work in as a Marketing Manager. 🤗
Planning on moving to the UK for work, any suggestion on where to live if my workplace is in Central London?
