I’ve been playing Gibson’s my whole life, and I just bought my first Ibanez. I got the axion label cerulean blue burst multi scale guitar...and I’ll never go back to Gibson. I feel like I’ve been missing out. This guitar has unmatched tone for technical metal

This sounds way better than I thought it was going to. Since it was design for metal, figured it would be more harsh and or grimy but it has very clean sound. Those pickups are very interesting.

@Rick Duff, did you get it ? I purchased one from GC. Was the demo so it was $200 cheaper. Sweetwater has a demo also as well as new ones.
Got mine today, mine has a cool low gloss like you can see the wood paint job on it, plays amazingly, and the fishmans are super versatile

"Weird knob, why did they pick that knob" - having played the previous version of this guitar with that knob live a *lot* I have to say: it's awesome! Bigger radius like a Gibson knob so more precise but with the grip of strat/metal dome knobs.
Its nice to see Henning reviewing a "betterer" model guitar. The ultra thin body is awesome and so is the color and finsh! 🤟

Ibanez S are the best feeling guitar out there IMO. Because the body is thin, the guitar sits closer and increases my reach on the fretboard.
That F# at :19 was clutch ;)... All in good fun bud Henning
Finally, been waiting 2 months for this demo :D No volute is probably exactly because they try to avoid too much neck dive on this thing. I hope it wont be too bad when I get to play this thing.
i bought the ibanez s617ab and guitar center gave me this one by accident..
it was in the used section and a good deal but hopefully i can score a 50-75$ special discount if i decide to keep it

I love the looks and specs of it.. but the prices are going up and I can't really justify buying an Axion label when I can get an ESP E-II for just a few hundred more.

I ordered one a 1 month ago. Pretty nice guitar, but mine has some green between the grey and white? Was this a special demonstartion model?
This guitar is so light, when i unpacked it I first thought they forgot the Body :D I really like the ergonomics. The neck feels definetly thicker than on my RG prestige, but is really comfortable.
Talking about the "volutes" (did I spell it right?). I think they only have on the thin necks, like the prestige (-2mm thick) or premium (-1mm thick) to strenghten the weakspot on the head agle. They probably just don't need it on the S61AL. By the way: The "1" in the model name usually stands for Fixed Bridge. The trems have a "0" ;)
Btw Henning, in the title says SA61, and its the S61AL. Good Review like always, lovely axe imo

Jason Bone no, i know is axion label, thats not what i was saying the SA and S are kinda different, thats why. If someone search in yt S61AL or S61 Axion Label doesnt show up. I was just trying to help correct an easy mistake.

Beautiful playing on the intro Henning. Henning I tried changing my nut (yes I said that) on my cheap guitar, it was plastic. Now the nut I got is a little shorter in height. Why did I all of sudden think I was a Luthier? lol

S's balance just fine on a strap. I can't play a guitar with neck dive and I play S's almost exclusively at the moment. You take a gibson with a much heavier body and the neck dives. Strap peg placement is more important than weight.
What about when playing sat down? I practice a lot in classical position with the guitar resting on my left knee.

Hey Henning have you tried the Hamstead 60RT amp. If so, what is your take on it. Im at a toss up between the Hamstead and the Revv Dynamis.
This guitar as a RGA and I would be sold. The S-Series is just too thin and lightweight for me :(
Danke für das ausführliche Video! Hat mir echt geholfen bei der Entscheidungsfindung. Ich hab schon lange mit einem Ibanez-Metalbrett mit aktiven Pickups geliebäugelt. Doch die RG-Bodys sind mir zu klobig und Ibanez scheint leider die E-Gitarren mit S-Body immer zu vernachlässigen (warum nur? 🙁). Hab zum Glück noch eine S61AL als Retouren-Restposten bekommen, gibt es ja leider nicht mehr nagelneu. Bin sehr zufrieden mit der Gitarre 👍🏻 in diesem Sinne: MmMmeeeeeeTtaAaAaAaAaAaLLL !!!

Love this guitar. But no floyd rose on an Ibanez? Why!?
Not all models come with it. I know, lol, when you see or think of ibanez you think of a floating floyd rose, it's just what an Ibanez is... but if you dont want one, and still want that nice action and smooth neck of an ibanez without wanting to dive bomb or flutter , now you have that option on some models.
Love the Ibanez S series. I have several. This one sounds good too.

Nice looking guitar. Sounds surprisingly dark for a lightweight guitar without a tone control.
Weight has no impact on sound.
I'm seriously thinking of buying this , as I type this I am looking at one online close to me at a guitar shop .I am at least gonna go try it out tomorow, those pickups are interesting..they sound a bit unique, yet still sound like an ibanez when I close my eyes, slightly different, but tonally satisfying. I am excited. If like the way it feels ,more then likely I'm pulling the trigger and will be owning a new guitar. You know that feeling you get? When you see something and it just calls to you? I want that mortal kombated .
P.s the active pickups... what kind of batteries and where do you buy them if specific ones, are the pickups rechargeable with a usb cable?

it sucks that the prestige versions with the fishmans only come with the voicing switch and no "coil tap" like the premium one. henning! please complain about it to that ibanez guy, Dan
It depends on type of fishman. Standard classics and moderns does not have very usable coil tap.
Horrible location for a mini toggle coil tap switch!! :(
I just hate that the binding doesn't continue onto the headstock. My OCD hates it. Ibanez does the same thing on most of their j.customs where there's body and neck binding but no binding on the headstock 😒
@Zerusu yes but the body still counts as having reveal binding about the width of single ply natural binding. However,they do not continue that single ply natural binding nor do they do a natural reveal binding on the headstock and I wish they would for the sake of my OCD and continuity. Same with this axion label S, even it's predecessor from the iron label (which was pretty much the same guitar) had headstock binding, really not sure why this one doesn't have headstock binding.
@Zerusu I dunno I've also scoured through many many photos of j.customs on Ikebe Gakki, I've only seen one or two special spot models that have headstock binding.
@Zerusu also, what model is it? I'll give it a quick Google.
@Zerusu yeah I noticed that, but if you can't see it from the top, is it really binding, idk if they'd make the masking tape just a few mm thicker that'd be great lol

So many gud guitars these days...but who's buying them? Kids today are so lazy and has no idea wut gud music is. They rather play Guitar on Xbox listen to today's crap music. BTW, that jack is in the most annoying place! The light weight is gud for playing behind the head and throwing around your body...
