TH-cam decided I NEED to know more about super yachts. Why? No clue. I have no interest in yachts as I get sea sick on big boats, and I'd never afford one anyway. That being said, I've fallen down rabbit hole with your videos. Lol. I've never given things much thought, you explain things great and make me want to know more.

Love your videos! I have a quick note for you on solid waste disposal. The onboard processing doesn't primarily remove toxins, but pumps in oxygen into the waste to allow the micro to multiply and break it down. The reason it's illegal to dump raw waste into the ocean is because the BOD (Biological Oxygen Demand) is too high, and the waste will cause too high of a spike in the micro count which consumes too much oxygen in the sea water and kills the fish. Some toxins are also removed through filtration, but that is not nearly as important as the oxygen.

It means that the more you have, the more you have to look after, therefore your time is consumed and you are owned by those things in the end. Its better to have a few really nice quality things than a bunch of shit like a cat lady hoarder with one thousand trinkets on shelves that no one has time to look at.

So my girlfriend I'm highschool her dad started the first fiberoptic cable installation company that got all the government's contract and he went from making millions to billions and after he sold his company for 5.6 billion we flew to a world series game in one of his Jets he told me making that kind of money with a global company was so stressful he had 3 major heart attacks in 2 years and was miserable everyday, the stress of not knowing if someone's stealing from you , is your money safe is it in the right place etc etc that it kept him up days at a time that's why he sold it.. Just remember money doesn't buy happiness just happy endings lol

I would say that money does buy happiness, it's all the other shit that makes you miserable. If I had the money without the hassle, I would definitely be happy on my massive yacht, personal island or back to back holidays.
Great video. Working as a crew member on a yacht is not easy either, stressful at times, sometimes dangerous out on the open ocean in storms. Excellent learning experiences at least though, amazing adventures, get paid to travel and figure out your master plan for life, your hopes and dreams come alive on the ocean, I promise you. Money definitely can't buy happiness. . . its the spending of it doing charity and investing in start up business to help people grow and support their friends and families who have ideas to help save our world and help more people be healthy and knowledgeable so as to help them achieve their dreams to reality. Happiness goes hand in hand with great health. The richest people I've worked for as their engineer are happiest when healthy & giving to others, at least sharing their knowledge and experiences, Knowledge is power. I find charity work brings me the most joy now days, i love doing charity work to help people with a hand up, but not often just a hand out. I am not a rich man, I don't want to be, been there, ya never know who ya friends really are when obviously rich. Jesus had a great life, he knew how to love God, himself and others properly and went around teaching the best ways to live with his trusted friends on many adventures. Taking certain risks are often so rewarding, we win win some, we lose some, the law of reciprocity at play. A law of our Universe, no loss - no gain. I am content with having a little more than I need these days and giving the rest away to help people invest in their future. One yacht owner I worked for in 2003 to 2004 who now lives here in New Zealand and I am still friends with showed me that Health is the True Wealth. He invested in my solar energy company and soon after my company won a Gold Award, our team were amazed, had not expected it. The best investment we can all make is in our diet, the best quality foods and health drinks. ok, much more expensive, but gives much better health and vitality, so more ideas come to bring more income and more ways to help others and the energy to bring to fruition aswell, more confidence, more knowledge. He showed me yoga too, to elliminate stress and have great sleeps. in 2012 I mastered Qi Gong after seeing Falun Gong people in a Christchurch park, changed my life big time after a solar energy biz trip to Germany and China. She was hired by Fred Heineken, the beer billionaire, from a low job in a train to become one of his personal assistents and the only thing she had to do is tell him what was actual, what was true. He met her by accident but she proved to be of immense value to him in running his board of directors. The stress these people get is from low-life that pretends to be sophisticated smart people, and this perfect pretence, this show, makes it nigh impossible to weed them out. If you father would have had the knowhow of finding and disposing of such people he would have had ZERO heart attacks. But he chose not to know which makes his heart attacks his own fault, i.e. caused by his own doing. So, don't give me that whining. It is bullshit from A to Z.

I would be a nightmare owner. I am a people person and very curious about operational details. I would be all over that ship, meeting and talking to the crew. Also, I feel uncomfortable having someone wait on me hand and foot. I was taught to put my dishes in the sink when I'm done eating.

I shot The Nassima a couple of years ago. Spend three days on board and felt remarkably uncomfortable when the stews cleaned up my ‘mess’ all day.

As an ex-USN snipe (Machinist's mate, i.e. steam/diesel engine room ops, HVAC, etc.) from "down in the black gang", I'm interested in how often major equipment failures occur at sea and how are they dealt with? Failures preventing proper sea keeping, for example. I'm sure they're very rare indeed, but still...

Keeping a yacht pristine is extremely labor intensive for all departments - interior, deck and engineering have daily routines not to mention repairs, refits when needed, etc…

Regarding that last section about the the owner buying an island, he does not actually own that island. Albany, Bahamas is just a large plot of land located on the southwestern tip of New Providence. Btw, New Providence is the most populous island in the Bahamas and serves as the capital.
Great observation about owners seeming ‘preoccupied’ or cranky.. I’m sure that most of them usually wish life was simple, with no responsibilities.. Unfortunately, their chices has made that impossible..

You are absolutely right. When I worked for the Americas Cup my Boss told me the only difference between himself and other people is that he has more money. He continued by saying “Having more money I have many more problems and much bigger problems than most people. I always have to watch my money.” I said to him “You have to watch your money? Don’t you have people to do that for you?”
He concurred by saying that he had to watch the people that were watching his money to make sure that they weren’t stealing from him.
And all I could think of is what a miserable way to live your life! I was happy riding my used 10-Speed Fuji to wherever I needed to go on the island. Enjoying my beautiful view of the island and the ocean, from what used to be the Butlers living quarters on the top floor, of an stately Victorian mansion. Gladly not being concerned about people stealing my 💰 money because I didn’t have any!
And I was perfectly fine with that!
My boss and his wife had twin yachts! The crew wore uniforms and the captain of the ship wore shoulder boards. There was a Guard House with a Security Officer before you could enter the dock. The Security Guard told me that I could lean my 10 -speed against the Guard House. I always chained and locked 🔒 my bike/transportation to the fence. Pretty funny I think looking back on it. Would make a great scene in a movie. The absurdity of a perfectly mechanical used 10 -Speed Fuji that was beginning to show signs of salt rust being securely locked next to the Guard House with multi million dollar yachts glistening in the ☀️ summer sun behind it was ironically hilarious!! 🤣😇😎

Hey man, love the content. I live in Michigan, USA, so I'm surrounded by pretty huge fresh water on all sides. I've sailed 4 of the 5 Great Lakes quite a bit and am more a fan of the smaller sailboat sailing. I know the Great Lakes are nothing compared to the open oceans, butI'm curious what are your thoughts on the skeleton crews making huge oceanic passages in 20 or 30ish foot sailboats that rely heavily on the winds? Would this be something you'd consider trying out as a SuperYacht fella?

Back in the late 70s, I remember visiting my boyfriend’s family home outside Philadelphia. The enormous living room had white carpeting, and on the coffee table was a real estate magazine of islands for sale. So islands have been for sale (and bought) for more than half a century.

Not an expert on laws, but I'd say it's like buying any land in any country, when you buy an island you're not buying your own country ;)
Mare Liberum maritime law reckons you can do what you want outside of contiguous waters - 40 miles out is international waters. This is the fevered dream of the SeaStead Institute.
It would be within another country. There is no land on earth (with exceptions being arctic/antarctic) that is not claimed by a country. So theoretically it would have to follow the laws of the host country. But you could create additional laws on top of that. You could, in theory, buy something like an oil rig but with no drill or rig (basically just a floating platform) and tug it out to international waters, where there is no laws other than international law.

A point of contention for me, is the difference between fresh water lake yachts and salt water (Pacific) yachts. Having grown up in Hawaii (firmly in the Pacific Ocean), I find a lot of the electronic doors and doo-dads on fresh water boats HILARIOUS. In my mind, the explorer yachts with the least amount of rickety breakable idiocy are the most sensible.
Of course, the dream of massive cash is to be carefree, "idle rich" where all your investments generate wealth and you have the right people managing everything for you, to the point that you simply don't need to be around your own company, and can spend months at a time exploring the beauty of the natural world on your pride & joy yacht.
But reality isn't like that. You can't trust your company to others, certainly not if you built it up from nothing. In fact your yacht becomes an unwelcome distraction, something you have just because, well... you're a multimillionaire and so having a yacht is the "done thing" but you really couldn't care less. It's all about more. More investments. More cash flow. More credit. More More More
You get to choose, one can choose a lifestyle that you describe in the first paragraph. Many do, it doesn’t sound like you’ve experienced that or believe it so until you change you’ll continue to see what you describe i the second paragraph. The choice is yours friend

About Crew Size.
Say an owner has a business with 55 locations in town. He may have it so organized that he does not even meet each Store Manager. He sees 4-6 people, but employs hundreds.
The individual I met actually managed his own store, just like day 1. He directly handled customers 6 days a week. He also had systems and procedures so 54 other stores did not call him about petty operational matters.
Conceivably an owner could arrive and leave, and arrange it so he NEVER saw staff, if you believe it. Howard Hughes did that for decades, and saw perhaps 7 people in that time.

Very common, but as many yachts are chartered, they often can be invited by guests rather than the actual owner of the yacht

The septic being dumped in the ocean is a little disturbing until you realize all the whales arnt sending there poop through a filter before disposing of it so it's pretty natural I guess.

i’d say along with stress there would be a teensy weensy smidgeon of guilt with a few demons thrown in…you don’t make that amount of money without bringing on pain and suffering to people along the way…corporate takeovers company resizing resulting in thousands losing their jobs…breaches of environmental laws etc just to name a few…can’t tell me no one is crying….the road to the billion is strewn with blood and tears!
The yachts owners are never happy apart from some yacht breaking down but when other yacht owners see a bigggers yacht are never happy
