I'm not sure if in Mexico pepper sprays are legal or where to buy them, but in Russia it saved me a few times. Just telling you my experience's in Mexico. I drove though it many times as a young woman by myself. I never had a bad experience. The men there were very helpful. When I had car trouble and a car accident. I have had many trips to Mexico,
everyone was very good to me. I experienced they are very good to women that travel alone. On the other hand, not so good as a couple. I just thought it was obvious that they pick on foreign men. That was my impression. If you as a woman are with a man , you have more to worry about. Or if foreign men go to Mexico without women, they seem to get in trouble.
I have to say as a woman in America, I have had everything bad that can happen to you here in the USA, (excluding murder)
and that was just purely luck. And it doesn't matter what neighborhood you are in.
Just saying, Mexican's have always been good to me in their country. I think because I was a woman alone. Unless times has changed? All I remember is they appeared to be very protective of me.

There's this weird phenomenen where everyone in México wears pants and often times long sleeves or sweaters, even when it's breaking 65F. While I think this is similar to what I've seen in TH-cam videos from Miami, it seems to have a very practical purpose and that is to protect you from very high UV radiation.
While there are some US cities that are at lower latitudes than México, México's land is usually at a rather high altitude. The higher the altitude you go, the higher the radiation dose you recieve.
Therefore, the coupling of high altitude and low latitudes result in high UV radiation.

Another excellent video, as usual. My take away from having spent time in Tijuana is if you really want to find trouble, you can. If you want to avoid it, you can generally do that too. Finding trouble tends to begin with the drug trade, buying or selling. Never had an issue there. It did help I was with a local, who spoke Spanish. P.S. I think Laska's probably at home playing dress up with your "gold chains" while partying with the local squirrels. ;)

Thank you for all the helpful resources you provided through your videos and travel. Our first city we tried was where you two ended up :) we also tried Merida, Puerto Morales and Mexico City (right beside the park). My husbands favourite was the city. Mexico never worked out for what our needs were and hopefully SOON you two will have similar needs...wealth building and proper tax structuring in order to properly build. Through real estate, stocks, etc...whatever and however you chose to invest your wealth. Mexico was not an easy place to establish and do this...whereas Portugal is. Plus right now Portugal is trying to attract all the digital nomads to come and live there with easy visas and excellent tax incentives for 10 years. As long as you bring your own job and you can support yourself online. Safety is a given and everything we were looking for in Mexico, we found in Portugal. I'm Canadian and my husband is European, so we had to choose a country that worked for both of us. Anyhow thank you and if you ever feel like going to explore Europe for a while you might want to consider looking into Portugal.

The worst I've had happen is attempts, some successful, some not, at shorting me when making change. PEMEX stations are the worst for this. Two things I do is cover the key pad to hide my PIN # when entering my number….to stop cloning of my card, and the second thing is if possible to have a second person watching out while I am using the machine. In some cities in Mexico, the ATM’s are located on a wall right on the street. A second person on watch will increase your security tenfold.

Most of these seem like common-sense things applicable to almost every country.
Interesting that Krav Maga advises a kick to the nuts. I studied Okanawan Kempo, and they advised attacking the knees. The crotch is rather high, and male reflexes to protect that area are very strong. It only takes about 15 lbs of pressure to shatter a knee, anyone with reasonablly strong legs can exert more that area; just angle your kick to bend the knee in a direction it isn't supposed to go. Nobody is going to chase you very far or very fast with a broken knee.
A good stout walking stick or umbrella is also useful, and it is the one weapon that is absolutely legal to take anywhere.

More tips for staying safe from banditos, in Queretaro (or traveling, in general). Keep just a little bit of cash handy in your front pocket (say, $20 US), while walking the streets, and stash the bulk of your money in your money belt or even in your shoe. (I always carried my backpack when out and about, but I NEVER carried my money in it, because I figured it was too easy to set your backpack down and forget it, or otherwise get separated from it.) When you go to purchase your street tacos, or cervezas, or whatever, pull out only your little bit of cash, so you're not pulling out a big wad of cash for all the world to see. And, if you do need to access your big wad of cash while out and about, do it in the privacy of a bathroom stall, etc. Another tip, look unwealthy and wear non-flashy clothing. (Or, as I like to call it, "wear your best urban camouflage.") The less you stand out, the better. I walked the 2 miles home from the bars in El Centro, alone late at night, many a time. Just always stay vigilant about being aware of your surroundings, and determine your safest path, blocks ahead. Also, when drinking alcohol, avoid getting drunk, to help you not be an easy target. Queretaro is a fantastic city, but any big city can be dangerous, especially if you look like an easy target. I really enjoyed my time there. So many stories to tell.

Hey Jordan and Maddie. Here in San Miguel de Allende, there is a guy who kidnapped and killed a husky at Presa Allende in the past week. I think you could do a video on this subject especially considering Laska. It started a social movement here in the town. There was a big protest outside his house and in the neighborhood in Los Frailes. Many accuse the same man of many other dog murders including the dog food poisonings in the neighborhood earlier this year that killed about 20 dogs. If you're interested in doing a video on the subject of animal abuse in mexico and especially this case that has provoked such furor in SMA, just respond to this message and I can send you a bunch of links and relevant info. There are a lot of people who would love to do interviews with you that have had their dogs killed.

Not all the time! If you are being robbed and the offenders tell you to lie down, face down on the ground, attempt to bind your hands or cover your eyes, or especially try to put you in a vehicle to take you somewhere else, that's the time to fight back! Nothing good is going to happen to you if you are taken to another location. Usually complying is sufficient , but not necessarily all of the time in every situation.

Ahh! Situational awareness is important everywhere; in the woods, on the highway, in the city. You are learning. Experience is a wonderful teacher but I think it's better to use the unfortunate experience of others rather than your own. Fewer stories but way, way easier. Addendum: Baltimore, Chicago, New Orleans, LA, and NYC beat anywhere you've been in MX. If you don't do illegal stuff, you'll meet a lot fewer baddies. I worked in a prison for several years. I learned a lot about how baddies think.

Always chose to pay in local currency however sometimes even if you press the local currency option you still get charged ( Happened to me in Rio De Janeiro ). AMEX 💳 don't charge the FCF however unlike Brazil AMEX doesn't seem to be widely accepted in Mexico, at least from my experiences in Cancun Mexico.
Get a foreign currency converter app and check your receipts and your credit card statements especially on the weekends when the forex is closed.

When I studied Spanish at Queretaro's Tec de Monterrey during the summer of 2008, one of our classmates went out clubbing, planning to share a cab home with several friends. They chose a cab that didn't display the black phone receiver decal we had been warned to look for before ever getting in. After he had dropped off her friends, the driver drove to a remote location where he savagely beat and raped her before dumping her along the roadside to die. But she was a sturdy Nebraska girl of nineteen, and was able to stumble into the road for help.
I have returned to Mexico several times, and plan an early retirement there in in seven short years. (Currently looking at Jocoteoec) There is so much to love about Mexico, but the advice to trust that inner voice is most crucial, imo

This video is more applicable to the US; specifically, states like CA, NY, Illinois, etc. Los Angeles has devolved into a one gigantic cesspool, where people are either on edge or all pissed off, waiting to take their anger out on anyone, for any reason. A few days ago, I had some dude literally get in a rage just because I didn't yield to him as he backing his car out. I just drove away, or tried to as he vehemently pursued me. Thank god he didn't feel the need to use a gun as he lashed expletives left and right at me; otherwise, that could have been it for me. Everybody tailgates like a psycho out here, and with gas prices at $4.50/gallon, I expect this place to become more dire than it already is.
