I have watched many of your SHELTER CONSTRUCTION videos. Some were quite complicated and others, like this one, simplicity itself. What always impresses me is the resourcefulness in your methods. This shelter, is truly a SURVIVAL shelter, meant to be temporary. Still, if just a bit deeper and a bit longer to allow you to stand and stretch out, it could be used for quite a long period.
Athos, this is a video that we all should see, just to see how easy it is to make an emergency shelter in some wild or disused space. ;-)

Hmmm, standing. I've always felt it was important. Stretching out, I think he has that. So the height he does not have and we can agree on its importance but what about the width? Exactly how much width do we need? Habitually, I have always thought, "width=height" for true comfort but is that really necessary? Maybe width=height/2? What do you think?
Furthermore, I think a particular flaw needs to be fixed: there are no air vents! How shall we light a fire without a place for the smoke to escape? I know the solution! He already found the secret of the recessed berm for the roof but for air, there needs to be a berm also for each end log to rest on. ;)
I'm glad his part 2 is also continued. :)

@@mikejay9838 Ergonomics have said for years that one person need about a minimum of 100 square feet, twice that to be comfortable. Height minimum should be about 6 inches higher than the tallest person housed.
Survival shelters are different, Ergonomics does not count. Still a 6 8nch head clearance is desirable.
      Great reply. ;-)

I have always believed that underground shelters are the best option for survival because you only need minimal amount of materials to collect and better for insulation. Great job!

I’m a new subscriber & I’m always amazed by the numerous innovative designs in the construction of your incredibly functional, durable, uncompromising shelters.

Yes, my brother and I made two underground shelters as kids. One, which could sleep two or have four sitting, was at the end of our own, very long garden and hidden well beneath trees and hedges. The other, was at the end of a neighbour's garden....all the houses were around the outside of the land which had been a large apple orchard. Each house having a very long narrowish garden full of trees, which joined with boundaries in the middle of the plot. We went under our hedge, into the end of a neighbours garden and dug a large and deep
'observation post' hole with a metal lid covered in live turf and moss. We lined the walls all around with corrugated iron sheets. The dear old lady had no idea it was there and we used it for many months, while playing soldiers. Until that fateful, fearful Saturday, when our parents were out shopping and came a knock at the front door....the elderly lady's brother, a very tall imposing ex metropolitan police inspector with a big moustache, was standing in our porch, pipe in hand, gazing down at us....and uttered the immortal opening line, "Who's the hole digger?" Banged to rights! We were made to go and fill it all in. ......but the third one I dug a few weeks later, in the church orchard.....that was never found!!😊

    2. for better hiding the entrance, put a dense branch over it. easy to remove for exit / entry.

I also learned that you have to be extra stealthy building it , if theis was for real, you would do all prep work about 500 feet from the shelter , then carry it to it, that way if you see someone you can stop or change direction, if you are near it and they see you, they will tell everyone they know some guy is building something in the woods and exactly where it is. I would dig and build at night and cover it over in the day until I was finished Also footprints , anyone can follow you right to the door. Build along a creek on a rise . Then if it snows you walk along the creek and go 500 feet past the shelter and go in a loop back to the creek a couple of times, they will have to be pretty smart if you cover the way you got up to the rise from the creek .a big limb can be used to go up or even a rope hidden up in a tree you can fish down with a branch and swing across.

Put it under your RV if you can’t afford to heat it. They say heat can come up by blowing it out of the underground into a winter geeenhouse also, basement or whatever, it’s warm down there or cool in summer for some reason. One story down don’t work takes more, Maybe those multilevel underground parking garages or hospitals with 14+ levels under them, know more and won’t tell if they can’t collect $.
