Nate, Ghostrider Don here; I saw your video on Mike Glover and was intrigued by the MACV-SOG emblem on your wall. Mike interviewed my friends Tilt Stryker-Meyer and Dick Thompson so I have been following Mike's legal issues. I am also a SOG veteran and friend of your father and Jim Day's. Great topic and duscussion in this video and your others. Keep up the good work.

That’s awesome you and your dad have that kind of bond and shared experience through two very different conflicts. I just found out my uncle was a Recon Marine in late 80s and early 90s. He never talks about his service and I don’t want to push it, but he didn’t really seem unsupportive of me joining the Army at least.

I served in SOG from 1968 to 1969 at FOB II, Kontum and I would go on a mission come back and have three or four days off and then go out again. We had a high turnover rate and the one thing that I remember is that the door to our hooch had our names written with erasable pens so they could change the team make up very quickly. I was on ST Illinois and we only had two Americans on our team. Later after about 12 missions I became a covey rider. I just found your site and enjoy it.

My uncle is a Special Forces legend, in fact he is the one who convinced me to go to Ranger Regiment and then go SF, or at least get out and join the old 12th SFG. John Donovan, was an editor of SOF Magazine. Was shaving his head, growing goatees and benching 500 pounds when that was unheard of for a man; the 1970’s--it didn’t let us down. What I’d like to know is how some of the SF legends like Mad Dog Jerry Shriver would fit in the modern SF ODA? Could you do a discussion about that?

I knew a guy who’s grandfather was a nam green beret, and his dad was a panama/gulf war green beret, and he was a gwot green beret. I’m not saying he’s the only one with 3 generations of green berets but he’s the first I’ve heard of.

Awesome video. As a member of the 10th SFG in '69, I typically weighed 155#. Unfortunately when I transferred to VietNam the 5th was winding down; I was assigned to the 4th ID. Spot on about our load out.

I dunno if you have talked about this before, but I would be very interested to hear about how your dad being a green beret formed your decision to join the military. And what is interesting to me is, you've made some comments in videos that imply that you are somewhat disillusioned by American military industrial complex. Seeing as Vietnam was also controversial in a similar way the middle east, perhaps even more so, did your dad ever develop such feelings of disillusionment and if so, did you already hold that perspective going into the military or did you develop your perspective due to more current events? If you had such views before going into the military, why did you decide to join?

What is the most common Special Forces MOS? As in, which Special Forces MOS is most frequently assigned in the Q-Course?
Which Special Forces MOS is an infantryman most likely to be?

Nate : Did Your Father, a Special Forces Sergeant , Who fought in the Vietnam War, and Other Special Forces Soldiers, prior to the establishment of the Special Forces Branch in 1983, qualify for The SPECIAL FORCES Long Tab? How about the American Army Soldiers of World War II ,that Served in the First Special Service Force ( 1 SSF) , alongside the Canadian Forces ? Do They , retroactively , earn the SPECIAL FORCES Long Tab, Too ?!
