Super helpful! Now I need to start my planning. The most valuable lesson here is not to make a hasty campaign but to plan ahead, preferably a couple of months in advance.

This was very helpful! I am having anxiety about starting a Kickstarter for season 3 of my Web Series (Muva’s Model Magic). Do I show clips of the show? How would you do the rewards/ kickbacks for a visual novel? Some of my ideas for Kickstarter rewards would be like maybe paper signed illustrations by my artist, but I'm not sure what else I could use.

I just launched a KS last night to fund the rest of my Manga series cause Ive seen others do the same and kill it! and ive gotten 213$ in pledges since launch but most of the people i assumed would pledge, arent, and ive got floods of emails and messages of people saying the only was i can get backers is if i pay for them... this is my last ditch effort to make this dream come true and even with 70,000 IG followers, its not going as expected....

Can somebody please start up crowd funding for Farmers in America who are doing it tough because of Diesel and Fertiliser prices. A Crowd Funding to purchase NON DIESEL AND NON PETROL LATEST TECHNOLOGY FARMING MACHINES AND TRACTORS - Solar powered would probably be the best option - ( and perhaps some fertiliser supplies too ) to then donate to the farmers would be fantastic and would also help the hand that feeds you !
The one donating should hold stock….. that would be awesome

Hmmm. I can see Devin launched a Kickstarter in 6 hours, funded four times over. I do imagine that a lot of this would be good, especially if you have it much higher goal than I had, and your project is contingent on getting that funding
Is there any point in launching a Kickstarter campaign if I don't really have a social media presence?
I was wondering the same thing. I don't use social media either. What was your conclusion? Did you come across a better approach?
@BurrowingHabits 🐾 well shouldn't you have a social media presence? You're asking people to fund your project but they won't know who you are as a person. You also need social media to spread your project ideas around.
So to answer your question, yes! You will need a social media platform to have a successful KS campaign

I'm still confused. It feels like a catch 22 or something. How do you build a crowd as let's say a comic book artist without having any comic books. Build a crowd around hype or over your doodles? And if I did have the comics I don't understand why I would need kickstarter? I'm apologize. I'm feeling very mentally challenged right now can anyone help. It doesn't seem like a kick starter as much as a push after ur going starter.

Hmm? I was under the impression Kickstarter, indiegogo etc was like a built in community of potential investors who can search the categories to choose what they want to invest in. Did not ’ think the brainstormer had to find 100% of their audience. I’m cool with putting work in but imagine if you had a ready audience of investors receptive to your pitch? Maybe I am misunderstanding it.
Hi Activated Carbon! I'm very low budget to attempt starting a crowd fund. I just want to say you authored the ultimate question as advertising I imagine can be very expensive and I imagine funding categories can draw donators to your campaign. The other problem is if there are 1,000 others in the same category. I hope they let you post in several relevant categories at a time. I imagine crowd funding has become highly competitive and one must learn what they can do to maximize their attempt. I suppose it has become very structured as to how you draw funders.

So basically, you want to build a following (paying for Ads/Followers) and pay for more marketing to reach that “crowd” with your KS pitch
Then, promise everyone a bunch of worthless stuff and call them exclusive, hopefully resulting in these paid for followers to “pledge” to your KS campaign
IF you ever get fully funded, good luck getting these “followers” to pay what they pledged and keeping them satisfied with the Quality/Speed you can deliver this thing that You couldn’t afford to make without their money
Once you Make nothing off this project you’ve work hard convincing people to fund, you’ll be seen as a beggar to the entire world/your friends and family and you can...
Rinse and Repeat to begin the viscous cycle all over again

That's funny because most people that get funded do the opposite of what is suggested in the video, hummmm!!!!

SERIOUSLY, what does Kickstarter, IndieGoGo, etc., do that I can't do by simply creating a "Donate" page on my own website? From what I've seen these crowdfunding sites do NOTHING to attract funds to your project other than having it listed. You do all the work and then they take their cut.
I'd say they ad legitimacy &/or confidence in the minds of the consumer that you're asking to believe (or literally "Buy-in") to your idea or enterprise. Whether real or imagined is irrelevant to the question. I'd rather raise $10k and pay some commission, than struggle with the added headwind of having no association to anything I've ever heard of and raise $2k that I keep 100% of...

The logic behind fundraising is so absolutely ass backwards to me. If I'm trying to get funding to build something, and I need money to advertise and gain an audience, and I need a product to show that audience (which I also need money for), then how the hell do I raise the money to get the audience that I need the money from to get the audience???
I ran into the same backwards thinking with angel investors. They wanted a product and traction in revenue growth...and im like "but I need money to make a product with to get customers to buy.."

You can't crowdfund if you don't have A LOT followers on social media.
So it's an issue of getting the word out and building a community *first* before you announce that what you've been talking about can be made a reality
