- The Tories are set to decide their leadership race this week with Iain Duncan Smith touted for a return, according to MPs.
LBC understands Tory leadership hopefuls are preparing to formally launch their bids before the summer recess, with a contest to MPs and members through August.
And amid a public spat between Kemi Badenoch and Suella Braverman, former Tory Leader Duncan Smith is being lined up to run the ship again for the time being.

Poor Rishi, couldn’t duck off to California, because everyone kept saying that he would duck off to California. But he really really wants to duck off to California. So they have to quickly find a replacement interim leader, so that Rishi can duck off to California.
While he's still an MP. OK.
@@randyschwaggins It means nothing to him mate. I bet ya.
He was chancellor, then pm… you think Rishi RICH is happy with a pay AND power cut? 😂😂😂
Pull the other one.
There will be a by-election by September!
so just be clear when he kept saying "I love this Country" he jut got mixed up, he meant the US ...easy mistake to make !!!
Could have problems with Border Security if he tries to take an off duck into US!
How much does anyone outside the Tory party actually care?
Ian Dunk'in Donuts, the most uninspiring, ineffectual, "leader"? the Tories "never had"
Polite and funny way of saying IDS is a loser
And The Tory Party does not tolerate LOSERS, they find them abhorrent
@@theman2017inc There must be a lot of self loathing going on the the tory party at the moment, then.
The Quiet Man who was going to get louder. Barely heard him
@@bigblue6917 🤣
You mean Ian Smith, Duncan is his middle name 😅😅
IDS The Tories are batshit Crazy😀
Yeh we already knew that
Not so much IDS as ESN
And Labour are Lunatics
IDS is particularly cruel, he wrote the Tory benefits and PIP reform policy.
I think IDS, to be fair wanted working claimants to keep a bit more of what they earned on top of any benefits so work would always pay?
he is evil. he believes mothers or being a mum is not a job. I hate him. he is separating mothers from their children if they are on low income. so evil human he is.
He implemented the poison chalice given to him, politics being a 'team sport', but then resigned when discovering that they then expected him to go further than he had agreed. Yes the policy was vile and cruel. But it's a Tory policy and implementation, so what did you expect.
They should ask the people at the Daily Mail to pick their next leader. They have, after all, endorsed some bright ones in the past 😂.
IDS 😂 laughable , if the tories aren't a laughing stock already worldwide ..
Don't assume things will go the way we assume. This fellow will maintain the status quo.
IDS only has a seat because Labour split its vote into two... Tories really are desperate.
IDS kept his seat because of some very discussting lies told by the likes of the troy shill Owen Jones.
Yeah the independent trying to take down Labour really hurt their constituency
“I have decided to step down in order to spend more time with my money”
IDS??? OMG HAHAHA, They MUST be desperate haha.
I'm only ten seconds in and I'm thinking, is it April 1st already?
Ian (not duncan) smith gets my vote as we need Labour in power for at least 10 years, his double barrelled name is as fake as his qualifications
*It's barrelled (no hyphen) and it's genuine. His dad was W G G Duncan Smith.
I never knew they had a soul to lose?
I think we take that as a figure of speech.
The Tory membership can be relied upon to choose the more batshit crazy of any candidates offered to them.
How rude.
The same Ian Duncan Smith who, during an interview when faced with accounts of penury and much worse resulting from Universial Credit sanctions and impossible timescales and harsh treatment at the hands of PIP/ESA assessors, indignantly retorted "No, no. I'm not going to get into the nitty-gritty" and carried on his tirade. Has he graduated from the University of Perugia yet?
IDS 😂😂😂😂😂😂
IDS. The Quiet man on the board of the think tank who wrote the Tory benefits and PIP reform policy earlier this year...
While he has four children and a ministers pay.
With only 130 at best mediocre MP's the Tories really are scrapping the bottom of the barrel.
Hilarius! Tories let's select an interim leader who has a proven record of failure in the post of Tory Leader, so there's no way he can become the real leader..
IAN DUNCAN SMITH??????????? aaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaahhahahahahhahaha ok.
My sentiments entirely!!
Sunak looked genuinely miserable when it was announced he retained his seat.
Soul searching assumes they have a soul, which they don't.
Ot a heart.
Who cares?
If they chose someone they removed as leader 20 years ago then it would be a terrible move.
Rishi wants out, off to California never to be seen in his ‘beloved ‘ England again 🤣
Still saying Sunak is going to step down as an MP. Given the complete state of things
"Having spent more time with my Family It's best I step back totally" = Off to America ASAP.
They have no souls...
He shouldn’t even be an MP, the left wing independant candidate , gave him the keys . Madness.
Does that mean we have a 6 month leadership contest where the candidates slate each other, one scrapes in and within a few weeks is booted out just to have the also-ran be given the job? Been there, done that.
Because Iain Duncan Smith succeeded so _tremendously_ well last time he helped the Conservative Party after a calamatous defeat? I know he said we shouldn't underestimate the determination of a quiet man, but really he's not given us any reason not to doubt him.
If there was to be an interim leader, he should've stepped down as Party Leader the same day he stepped down as PM
Even if this is an entirely bogus story it's very telling that it's both believable and hilarious at the same time. What are they searching their souls for? Jokes?
Tom Tugenhat threw his hat into the ring to be leader and is now Tom Tugen
(stole from the Now Show last time they had an election contest)
Cleverley and Badenoch will be the final two in their leadership race, I think. IDS is a mind-boggling suggestion. I could only see someone like that coming in short term to tide things over if Sunak doesn't want to hang around until the leadership contest.
IDS who campaigned that he only cared about his local constituency
'Race for Sunak's replacement intensifies.' Nobody had announced a candidacy before this video. And nobody still has. So how has it intensified?
Of course Richi wants out. He'll be in america before the year's out.
Rishi
Not a bad choice. IDS is a pretty decent and honourable fellow, although I'd be surprised if he wants the gig and to oversee this next/last phase of the Tories. Blaming Sunak for their failure is completely missing the point and ignoring their past actions and own complicity.
Ian Duncan Smith though😂😂😂. My Labrador isnt available for the job. Not a Tory!
Same dog different leg action ! Huge mistakes about to be repeated by Tories! Reset, Refresh, VOTE REFORM UK
Reform: just sour grapes against the original values I and most of the rear Conservatives once stood.
The Quiet man 😂😂😂😂
Natasha talking about her favourite topic - the Tory Party
Starmer promised Labour would be boring..
@@johnrussell3961 A recent poll has been released @differentbias that the top thing wanted out of the Labour GVT is less scandals. Happy for boring politics
To be fair, Mark, the discussion is about the tories. And she is LBC's head political reporter. So, it's a kind of given. Dumb comment
@@bigkdog5091 The second person chosen to the cabinet was Starmers enforcer. A blunt Scotsman who will not stands for minsters ignoring the ministerial code..
@@johnrussell3961 I think you picked on the wrong guy there, dude. And I am a semi blunt Scotsman
Cameron as interim Leader. Crown new leader at Party Conference.
Parliament is in recess for most of the period between now and the Conference
IDS... They could do a lot worse, and they have
Everyone else knows it’s fake but these guys. Should we tell them or?…
Speaking to constituents….Those that elected Truss, Johnson , oh glee?
Yeah Sunak will want to get to California it's only been weeks people saying he did not go to USA, astonished that these tories don't get that people are much poorer through these tories
Should I stay or should I go? Who sang that one. Just asking.
Soul searching? Tories? 😂😂😂
Bring back Boris!
Rishi will almost certainly abandon his constituency seat within a year of the election.
Iain Duncan Smith was a total failure as Tory party leader first time around. The very idea that he is the right man now to 'steady the ship' is nonsense. What the Tories need is a full on leadership campaign and a debate about ideas and the future direction of the party.
The Tories are so lacking in self awareness, they wonder what they have done to deserve this.
Iain Duncan Smith would be perfect for the Tories, as he's someone that has absolutely no substance and only values "Winning" a debate. He can lead the "Haw haw's" in the commons, while Labour slowly fix the country (hopefully).
Called it. It’s gonna be a at least a two probably a three leader deal for the Tories to come back. IDS is pretty perfect as no 1 for them.
Hague could easily have been prime minister in a different timeline. The Tories probably don’t want to make a similar error.
Wouldn’t it be fun if the leadership contest went by PR election process?
IDS what age is he now? 100?
How very rude. At least we traditional Conservative voters had strong family values, lack of hypocrisy and realistic targets to reach.
I suggest the world has changed to such an extent that the goal posts have moved dramatically.
No more sincere ambition to work hard and achieve a stable family society in which to live.
All the poses from the so-called Reform or hypocritical Labour will come to grief. Only a matter of time.
Rishi can't stay -his girls are registered at their new school....in California....term starts in a few weeks...so...you know.
IDS as leader eh? 🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣
Rishi Sunak WILL be off to California within a year from now. Stay on in the House of Commons, are you out of your mind?
It's going to be either Cameron or Boris 😂
Natasha gets all moist discussing Tories ! 😮
I don't think anyone they get to be leader" will help them. They are finished as a party most of them a right wing nutters" long may it continue .
I like IDS. He always looks like he has passed wind and followed through - that pained sort of Public School look. But did he go to such elevated institution?
One thing in his favour is he has an HGV licence. That's credible and easily more worth than your bulk standard PPE (Oxon) remedial Humanities Pre Uneeeeeee entrance course.
It’s not even his real name 😂😂🤷
IDS ?😂
😢all this lot of tories are nutters
They'll bring back Boris the buffoon
IBS😂
It was Starmer's fault IDS kept his seat! 😒
I'm curious, tell me more
@@Jonnyonthespot123 Starmer shipped in one of his own choice and sacked Faisa Shaheen who would certainly have won the seat. She decided to stand as an Independent. Consequently, the vote was split letting IDS keep his seat. You can check the result at Chingford and Woodford Green. Also, watch Faisa on Newsnight!
nope very wrong it was lies told about Labours polies by the likes of Owen Jones et al.
@@rickwilmot9127 So it's Faisa Shaheen who was the splitter, ok got it.
@@rickwilmot9127 As I understand it the de selected candidate decided to stand anyway which she is free to do but that decision helped to split the vote. So both her and Starmer's late deselection played their part in that fiasco.
Oh the Tory election intensity at LBC is getting unbearable...
Sunak will step down as an MP too i guess
Sunk needs to get to California before term starts 😂
Who care no one like them the big joke. 14 years of of miss up nothing is fix
IDS the Sam Alladyce of the Conservative party 😅
Fun fact.....Nobody cares
I like IDS.. even tho he thought of universal credit
Don't blame Sunak. Anyone in their right mind would quit as an MP immediately
The return of the quiet man?
Wait, the twins are coming back?
Are they really separate people though? You never see them together, do you?
Spain are a better team with better players, thats why lol
I used to listen to LBC but no more I find it biased and uninteresting
IDS?? 😂😂😂😂
Tory Leader speed dating once again
Just an observation. Can the lady commentator speak with more than just a monotone voice ? I found I was drifting off, and I do find these discussions interesting, usually.
It's just such a boring topic.
Ha!
He is going to stick around until Modhi invites him😂
Liz Truss would be best
Now
Boring, blunt and dull man. Boring speeches
