- While Israel's military offensive continues in Gaza, violence has also been escalating in the occupied West Bank. Residents launched a general strike - closing their shops and other businesses after Israeli troops raided a refugee camp in the territory. The Palestinian Red Crescent said at least 14 people were killed and dozens injured. Israel says it targeted militants during a counter-terrorism operation.

Sanctioning one battalion is like giving Israel 20 billion dollars in aid, then holding back $1 million, as a sanction. :/
I agree. It doesn't punish the government, but it collectively punishes hundreds of soldiers who individually might be innocent. If the U.S. feels that Israel isn't doing enough to investigate and prosecute criminals among its soldiers, then it has an issue with the government, and should consider sanctioning the government. The U.S. has no business punishing individuals without due process just for having been assigned to a battalion with a shady reputation.

I'm not clear on what armies are supposed to with so many bodies during a protracted battle. They presumably evacuate the bodies of their own soldiers, but are they supposed to leave unburied the bodies of enemy soldiers and civilians? Wouldn't that create a health problem if the battle were to go on too long? Are they expected to take the time to dig individual graves for each while potentially still under fire? This "mass grave" seems to be treated in the press as an atrocity, but I'm honestly not sure what was expected.

The 78-year-old man was handcuffed, gagged, forced to lie on his stomach and left in near-freezing temperatures at night and left there where he died in 2022. He was not arrested or charged with anything he was just a guy walking home. This is what Israel said happened this is not something alleged by others. Israel does feel there is a problem with treating Palestinians, none of the soldiers involved were charged with anything.
You read like the exact reason there is no peace in the eastern Mediterranean: namely, What-about-ism. Two fingers always pointing at one another can never help form a hand to shake.
OK, but is this a reason for U.S. sanctions against an entire battalion of soldiers (typically hundreds of people), whether they individually took part in any abuses like this or not? Isn't this collective punishment without trial? If the U.S. feels that the Israeli government is doing an inadequate job of investigating and prosecuting criminals among its soldiers, then it has a complaint with the Israeli government, possibly warranting sanctions against the government. Why does the U.S. have any business trying to punish individuals whom it is incapable of giving due process? Would the U.S. tolerate such treatment of a whole battalion of its own soldiers by an ally?

They are not going to give weapons to the battalion that according to IDF investigation, they handcuffed, gagged, forced a 78-year-old man to lie on his stomach and left him in near-freezing temperatures at night where he died. This was an IDF investigation that found this. Since when is it a right to be given weapons by the US?
