  • in this video Wout and I try and figure out what the ultimate Drift Week car is, rating them all. We rank Corvette, 240SX, Mustangs, BMW, and anything else we can think of by a variety of factors to try and come up with the ultimate drift week chassis. It doesn't matter if you have a 350Z, AE86, GR86, Nissan Z, E46, this all pertains.

    I think another category for your comparison could be "cost" as in the street cost of a car. Like for example an LS/2J swapped 240sx or F80 costs more than a C5 corvette or Turbo miata.

      Plus an LS, 2J swapped schassis is too common, imo I would have put the SR up instead or the KA motor

      @@aftrnoon_ac Turbo KA's are no joke, people just tend to not build them on YT because they don't get the "JDM drip" and "it's a truck engine".
      Such underrated engines imo
      Regarding the SR, it's great, but there is a reason people JZ/LS swap S-chassis and thats reliable torque, which you won't get that much out of an SR unless you spend some bills (like Adam's S13 and S15 and literally any SR he owns).

    Having been in and out of drifting for 14 yrs obviously I grew up in S Chassis. Since I've gotten older and kind of lazy I've gravitated to the "keep it stock" mentality. I had a C6 drift car but for expense purposes and value to chassis ratio (like newest Chassis for the money) I decided on a 15 Mustang GT. Also with me being 6'5 (because of this all my drift cars have to be modified for seating positions) it aided in additional comfort with the only drawback so far being numb steering.

      Mustangs and Corvettes are definitely the best out of the box "keep it stock" type of car. Throw some coilovers, an angle kit, and a handbrake in those puppies and you're good to go. With some of the FDF videos I've seen on the angle kits they make for 5th gen Camaros I feel as though they could be another to add to the list with Mustang and Corvettes.

      @@aftrnoon_ac i think everyone knows that but its a safe bet to throw one in your car for ease of drivability and the ability to rip it if you need to get out of a sticky situation. Hydro is right there in line with your shifter and steering wheel which makes it more ergonomic when it comes to situations like that. I know people tend to overuse handbrake but its definitely nice to have at your finger tips if something goes wrong.

      Definitely, I agree. The E60 chassis is great, very balanced and easy to drift. I had a 530d winter beater car M57TU 218hp version. The thing was sooo good, I didn't expect it to be that easy to drive, keep at angle, make smooth transitions. Definitely wanna see someone do a proper build with that chassis. If you throw all the crapout like all the interior, electric heated seats, all the upholstery, etc. etc you can get it down a lot in weight. M5 would be way too expensive as a concept though. I think a better more realiable concept would be to get a regular 525i/530i and LS swap it. There is already wisefab for the E60 chassis so why not?

    The E60 is actually gonna be an amazing chassis for drifting. I had a winter beater 530d last year and it was extremely good. Very precise for a big car and I had pretty good steering feel. Also the fact it has very long wheelbase makes it suuuper easy to drive, smooth in transitions. The M5 with a manual and some weight reduction I believe will make a lot of sense for Drift Week and in general for a drift car. They also make wisefab for it. I wonder why not many people use those cars for drifting, maybe cause they are so rare in manual.

    What about the mk3 supra with a 1jz, or just throwing this one out there an sn95 because just like the s197 parts are cheap and they're pretty reliable, with less electronics. Lastly there is the 370z and newer Z coming out. How would you rank those since it's the same chassis

    I would argue that the fix ability of a jzx is more like a 5 only because all the front suspension you can use IS300 stuff and the motor you can get away with using usdm JZ parts and if it’s a w58 trans car that wouldn’t be to hard to get either the diff as well cause you can use an is300 diff now the rear suspension and body panels are a bit funky that’s why I only gave it a 5 maybe a 6

    How is the Miata more driftable than the 86? I'm still running the torsion LSD diff (changing it to the is300 diff tomorrow for MB drift series) but it still slides damn good even topping out third running 70+. Fixable is ten because all parts even motors can be shipped overnight. I find angle can be limited but fixed with extended tie rods and weld the diff. It'll bang with anyone out there with a simple tune headers get it to 200hp

    • @awesomecooly123
      @awesomecooly123 2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      miatas that have angle are easy to drive, 86s take a certain type of driving skill that is much harder to refine than a miata IMO. Speaking from assetto corsa experience and my irl drift miata. So I could be wrong but thats how I see it.

    • @livesidewayz
      @livesidewayz 2 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@awesomecooly123 I just feel that if we're talking stock car out of the gate I would definitely say that the 86 is a more driftable car than the Miata.

    • @awesomecooly123
      @awesomecooly123 2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      @@livesidewayz At stock they are probably pretty similar difficulty, miatas are quite easy to slide. But with angle and proper caster settings miatas are a shorter S chassis. Most drifters probably can't drift either an 86 or a miata tho for that matter.

    • @livesidewayz
      @livesidewayz 2 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@awesomecooly123 ik the 86 thought me so much. I learned all my bad habits and got out of most of my bad habits in this car. If it weren't so expensive upfront to have one I'd say this is the car to learn in. I've had people drive my car and they say they don't know how I drive it the way I do but you have to drive the hell out of it. When I baby it she doesn't perform good but when I really push her she's almost dreamy. I'm excited to see how it feels with the welded diff. Steven Larson told me to get rid of the diff or weld it and watch how the car will drastically change my style and ability to maintain drift

    • @livesidewayz
      @livesidewayz 2 ปีที่แล้ว

      Piedmont in North Carolina has a bunch of Miatas and they all shred so I'm not taking anything from the mx5 but I'm a little bias in my opinion. Same reason everyone telling me my mk3 supra isnt a chassis I should build to slide.

    Y’all forgot to rate cost. You don’t see many Frs/brz out cuz they’re still expensive on the used market. If you could get 2013-15 for like $7500-10k with 80-150k on them. Used motors are as much as used sr20s. I’ve thought many times about buying blown up auto 2013s, swapping a manual and low mileage used motor in it, But you’d have at least $10k in the car and just doing that. Sucks cuz every other market is flooded with them.

    I would say excitement for a miata is pretty variable, if its a 16 year old in a stock 1.6 open diff that understeers its a 0. But, if you see a miata on someones door, you think holy shit that miata can actually drift! It just rarely happens that they have good drivers behind the wheel.

  • @williamguldager

    funny about the JZX100 and BMW size comparison. Aaeron you have had a SC300 and that car everybody is like "that is huge" but if you park it next to a E36 the length between the axles are almost the same XD

    • @LoneStarDrift
      @LoneStarDrift  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      The SC300 is about 300+ pounds heavier than an E36, but feels way heavier than that for some reason. The E36 feels much smaller than an SC300 too. As someone that has had a drift week SC300 with a JZ, I wouldn't suggest them for anyone. To get one into drift week shape and have a JZ in it, and an angle kit, it would cost way more than an E36 m3. The SC300 is a deceptively expensive chassis once you factor in the front control arm prices and ball joints, along with JZ parts and the R154.
      I didn't love my SC300 either, I'm not sure why, it just didn't get me excited to drift it.
