In a nutshell, the way it works is that hospitals, elder care homes, and a bunch of other stuff is owned by the government, essentially making them non-profit organizations. I have no problem with anyone's political views. The problem I have is when someone uses their fame to try convince the ignorant and ill informed to vote the same as you just because of the fame you've achieved. This is something many celebrities do and it disgusts me. A truly great person would encourage people to do their own research and vote for the person they feel comfortable with. yochanan shepard I've got you, man! Here in Denmark, we've built our society on socialism. In a nutshell, the way it works is that hospitals, elder care homes, and a bunch of other stuff is owned by the government, essentially making them non-profit organizations. We also have a combination of a comprehensive welfare system and free market capitalism, sustained through super high taxes. I'm not sure about the exact numbers for the other Nordic countries, but here in Denmark they're around 50%. Sounds nuts, right?! Most people are quite happy to pay them, though, and they're offset by super high wages, so it works out that, say, a beer or an apple or a litre of milk comes to the same proportional price from your salary as in Canada and (i think) the U.S.
Through those high taxes, every Danish citizen also gets free education up to and including masters degrees, and a monthly salary of ~$1000-1500 while studying. We have collective bargaining at the national level, and a sort of three-part-system wherein unions (-labour and -employer) negotiate wages and labour policies, which is mediated by the government (representative democracy btw).
This system is designed to enable anyone from any "walk" or "station" in life to be able to achieve "anything" and we're largely really really happy with it. Denmark has been found to be the "happiest nation" in the world numerous times. Here it's a running joke how "socialism" is portrayed in the U.S. while, in a common turn of phrase, I suppose, "NYC eats it's young".

I can't believe that so many people watch this guy! Not in a bad way, I simply find this guy so mundane that so many people would want to see what he does or where he goes next! Simply amazing! I'll check back in a few months & see if anything has changed. Im not optimistic, but Im open minded.
I have no problem with anyone's political views. The problem I have is when someone uses their fame to try convince the ignorant and ill informed to vote the same as you just because of the fame you've achieved. This is something many celebrities do and it disgusts me. A truly great person would encourage people to do their own research and vote for the person they feel comfortable with. Casey has the right to say anything he wants, I just feel he abused his fame and "celebrity status" saying the things he said to an audience using a platform that was not built with a political nature.
