It's so cool that konbini stores and ¥100 stores allow people looking to eat frugally to get fairly tasty and nourishing food without breaking the bank. Thanks for a look at some of your favorites, Shinichi. Your balcony of flowers and the wonderful tributes to dearest Justin were the highlights of the video for me. Although I never got to snuggle with him, Justin's sweetness, his intelligence, his whimsical personality, his huge loving heart, ensconced him firmly in my heart and mind forever. I truly miss him too. ❤
yay!!! just in time for me to watch before trying to sleep! I love your videos! thank you for all you do! They are a total stress relieving, enjoyable experience for me! Come visit NYC!!!
I always find these types of videos fun. In order to find anything even slightly similar, I have to drive an hour to the Korean market which carries some Japanese snacks and different teas. The tribute plaque to Justin is sweet. 🌈💞🐕💞🌈
👀🌸Looking at the beautiful flowers on the balcony of your home-sorely missing the❤️& company of Justin!!!!🙏-Always enjoy your food adventures in Japan!!!👏👏🤙⚡️
We miss Justin also. I have lost many pets over the years. Mum and I said no more after Peachy the love bird passed. He was with us for 19 years. It hurts to much. Thanks for your videos.
I thought your choices were spot on , the pizza bread , dango everything were absolutely delicious 😋. You have great taste Shinichi but the tea did it for me so creamy. I see you best for last. Awww Justin you were and always will be the star 🌟 who stole the show. On behalf of all the fans we miss you dearly ❤️ ⚘️
ooooh i didnt know that Justin passed away 😢😢 im so sorry, its so sad, big hughs for you! Justin for sure is looking and loving you from the doggies heaven 💙💜
Same here.. I put Japan on my bucket list and because of what I have seen here, I am excited. I want to ride the shinkansen so bad, walk where my ancestors lived.
I could visit Japan mostly for food, I'm just the kind of guy who need to taste exotic food, i once found a nice Japanese market while visiting the USA and bought a lot of stuff
I’m going to gain so much weight when we go over to Japan on the 18th of this month 😂 I can’t wait to eat all my favourites there, finally get to see family after 2 long years and I’ve been missing the fresh food too! 😋
Next trip to Japan which hopefully will be soon, my suitcase coming home will have many packages of the Gyoza! Next time, can you please mention if it has an expiration date. Thank you for showing the food bargains from the 100 Yen store. I am very sorry about Justin ((hugs)).
Wow, what a creative variety of snacks! Some US-based convenience stores are beginning to offer more than old hot dogs and taquitos rolling on a grill..... But overall, I think there is less variety of fresh food at more of these stores.
I used to have a lawson 100 2 minutes from my place in yanaka (they changed it now to a regular lawson). I loved the sushi set, just enough for lunch for me. And the frist time in Tokyo I lived of the mitarashi dango (one package a day; couldn't do that now anymore hahaha). I never tried the kakiage onigiri, but it looks good. I've tried the gyoza, but didn't like the texture.
The pizza danish is not uncommon where I live in Canada. If you go to a Chinese bakery they tend to have it, but more in a bun instead of a danish. The mayo and corn definitely tastes good!
I've wondered that too. My guess and only a guess. Japan makes a lot of items in country. So the cost of shipping and distribution is nowhere near that of say, the U.S. There's no New York to LA long haul trucking. They grow a lot of their ingrediants. Some items, like their eggs, are closed systems just to serve Japan and keep out contamiants from other countries. A very good way to be these days! ☺
A lot of different ways. Locally made, overstocked, product defects = let me explain like many big stores say a vegetable doesn't look good but otherwise perfectly edible. But a more common but overlooked is that it's advertising they lose profits but gain brand recognition. Then when you go to other stores and see a product with the brand you will more likely buy it as its a familiar brand name
I always have to laugh... most western folks think Japan is expensive. The cost of living can be a fraction of North America. This is really 100Yen store food, not that it's bad. But if you're willing to pay Y298 or Y398 instead and go to e.g. a Seiyu supermarket, the prepared food isle will surprise you...
Boksu is great, but damn it is expensive. You add up all these monthly subscriptions - boxes, streaming services, etc. and over time it's a lot of money. A lot of money..
What a coincidence. I had Inari sushi today too but had to pay almost 5 euros for 3 pieces. I'd really like to try that onigiri and gyozas in your video.
100 yen is 77 cents currently in U.S. dollars, 77% of one dollar. We would call this a dollar store here in the U.S. I can’t imagine getting food like this for 77 cents!
What sort of opening hours do those type of stores have in the main tourist areas? Cant wait to try some, but I think when I get there I will try and eat every flavour of Onigiri, if possible!
some of those food is really cheap, even compared to third world country like where I am living in right now (indonesia) some of the those food cost more than 100 yen ( 11.500 IDR ) Like the Sushi set usually 4 pieces of Sushi even from street food vendor cost at least IDR 15.000 - 20.000 (around 130-180 YEN) and that 5 Pieces of Gyoza usually cost around IDR 25.000 (around 230 YEN) And adjusting for per capita income of Country like japan, that is super cheap prices.
Even if it's cabbage and onions... 5 Gyoza for 100 yen is actually insane. A hipster restaurant in a NY suburb will gladly charge you like 6~8usd for that lmao
Tube chips are made from starch powder, not from potato, so it makes them cheaper than bagged chips. You can easily find one of $1 if brand of producer isn't a matter.
As a Dane I find it kinda amusing and OFFENSIVE that they call that for a Pizza Danish.. It have NOTHING to do with a Danish since a true Danish is basically just a roll with out romance or Cinnamon sugar :P
There is a real French bakery in my city and they call that kind of pastry "viennoise" (hopefully I spelled it right). I've also heard that other European countries refer to it the same way because it is actually Austrian from Vienna. I don't know how it came to be called Danish but that's always been the name here in the States.
@@elisaastorino2881 That is actually a "funny" Story Denmark at one point were very lacking in skilled bakers because of long period in which our own bakers were striking. So they hired French bakers to come up here.. They brought they sweet cakes with them and Danes fell in love with them (We actually calls them Vinnerbrød which basically translate to Viennebread.. We innovated and improved on them and some how that ended up being what got exported around the world by danish immigrants that moved to the US and sat up shop.
I must say, instant tea????Really? The eclairs looked sad, the burger looked dry, and the pizza? Yuk I am from New Haven, Connecticut. The pizza capital of the world. You would NEVER find corn or mayonnaise on pizza. Ewww.
You would not enjoy Japan. They put some strange things on pizza like fish, mussels in the shell, and pineapple (not necessarily all together but still strange). And its all about budget at a sen yen store. Cheap stuff, not really the best, but still not bad.
Sorry, but Naples is the pizza capitol of the world! I do love our different kinds of American pizza but they all pales in comparison to what I've eaten in Italy. I will confess that I have yet to try New Haven pizza yet.

Inari Zushi is my favorite Japanese snack food.
I love it too, Philip! I ate it as a child when my family lived in Hawaii, so it's very nostalgic.
Oh the picture of sweet Justin was so beautiful.😔

I don't think we have Lawson 100 stores here in Okinawa, will try them when I come to Tokyo. Thanks for sharing this video with us!
I always love watching dollar store type videos. It's a good insight to day to day living. Good video! ☺️
Love your videos, so relaxing and helps me get ready to fall asleep. Also encourages me to go out and explore new food too!

I can live with these. Broke person’s heaven. I can also live with Japan’s convenience store food
I love exploring combini foods when I visit Japan and have tried quite a few good things at Lawson 100. Loved the Justin tribute at the end.

Hey how was japan?
Your balcony is so pretty!
Feels like the best deals are the gyoza and the dango. So much for so little money!
The eclairs reminds me of some German pastry called Windbeutel but Windbeutel is the same dough filled with clotted cream instrüead of custard cream
It is always hard to lose a beloved pet, so I feel with you. Peace. 🙏
Your little furry one…. RIP
I hope you will be reunited with the ones you love someday…
We have something in the states called Mexican street corn that is roasted corn on the cob spread with mayo and spices and cheese...delicious!
I Love these kinds of video thanks for sharing this with us all 😘❤️👍🥰🤩😍
It is hard to lose a friend. I miss my "Buster" too. On a happy note, I learn something new about everyday life in Japan with your videos.
Thanks Sinichi for another informative elegant and classy video.

Can you do a video on where to find foods in Japan for dietary requirements. Eg Fish, gluten allergy. Vegetarian, halal food etc.?
Your flowers are beautiful! I wish I could grow potted plants but my “green thumb” turns plants brown!

Yummy looking!is that lavender on your Lanai? We grow it too! Seems to keep the insects away.

FIVE Gyoza for 100yen !! 😲😲😲
That's so damn cheap, Lawson's ROCK !
Even frozen Gyoza are crazy expensive in my country !☹️

I miss haku yen shops in Japan! The products are more sensible and much more useful than what they sell here in the US dollar stores.

I love how they sell 100 yen store items in North America like exotic foods for $5.00

Overall it looked pretty nice, except the sad eclairs

In america, $1 won't get you much but if it does, most often it is mostly made out of flour, sugar and a list of preservatives and chemicals.
Nice eats for 100yen
Id love Gyoza for a dollar haha here its like 5 or 6 dollars at the grocery store haha.

For all the interesting foods and drinks in Japan, instant milky tea is just nasty. Tea of absolute last resort.
