Thank you for your videos! I've been using RadioDJ for 8 years and I am learning so much stuff I never knew RadioDJ could do.
You are right, everything you put on your station should have value to your listeners. But we shouldn't discourage folks from providing content like news updates just because they can get it on their phones. If we use that logic, we would not do anything. People can get everything we do on their phones....music, commercials, music news, weather, etc. If we do it right we can create an "experience" for our targeted audience, not just one more place to hear their favorite music.

I agree! Like you said, if you can create a unique/local "experience" for your listeners, go for it! What I usually hear is far from that, though. Its national news with zero relevance to the local market the station serves. "Serves" being the key word. Local stations WIN when they lean-in to creating a curated "local-centric" experience. The station I profiled near London, Tring Radio, does a bang up job of this.

Excellent info you would made a good PD. Worked in radio early 70's little different time working the wheel. Call letters , Name, time, temp. Back then you ran the program as the PD said or you were history.

Thanks so much! Oh, yeah, "working the wheel". Those were the days. :) Funny, I probably got fired from at least half of the stations I worked at back in the day. PDs don't always know best...they just think they do. SO, I did it my way. I should do a video about all the firings AND name names. :)

This spawned an idea. If you are going to transition to a break inclusive format and you want it to sound more professional as the real sponsors come wafting in consider using PSAs as a kind of spot filler until that spot gets filled with actual $$$$😁. I've even actually heard a terrestrial startup say "Back after this." Followed by a jingle of "THIIIS!"
    I'm not even joking.

You could, but I always ask, "What's best for the listener?" If you have any spots, why not just keep the music rolling? Your listeners will love you for it! Promote you're the only station that's commercial free that hour.

So there are so many vintage TV/radio commercials that I'm trying figure out how to use them in short bursts or features. In addition to adding some intro disclaimer language. Any thoughts to point me in a direction??? Thank you brother, Rock On.

For a while, I was doing a similar bit into breaks. The bit would kick off with a music/VO stager, "Now, a cheesy flashback...". Then a short portion of the classic spot would play (15-25 sec), then an outro VO into commercial break.
