About an hour ago, I commented on Michael's Twitter post, asking him when the next When Phones Were Fun video was coming. An hour later, he replies, "How about now?" and attaches a link to the video. You made someone's day, Micheal. You were always an amazing TH-camr, I am convinced you're amazing human too, now! :D

I miss Palm also! Loved my Pixi Plus and later my Pre 3. Also, WebOS was such a joy to use, the cards for multitasking and the opportunity to put them in stacks was just brilliant.
When I was in 7th grade, my teacher recently purchased a Palm Pre. Having an interest in this new device, I asked her if that was the new Palm. She said yes and would always talk about how much she loved it. She would spend so much time on it and would frequently give us group assignments so she can be at her desk on her Palm. She was on it as much as people use their smartphones in today's world, which back then, was hardly ever seen. One day after class, I had asked if she can show me some of the features on it. Having recently given up on the HTC G1, the Palm Pre was much more polished than early android was. I was extremely envious every time I went to her class and watched her enjoy hours on that device. I've never owned a Palm device, but I wish I had.
I got chills when you previewed the Palm Pre. Make sure you go into detail about how Palm had to keep changing its USB signature to eventually show as an iPhone so it would still sync with Itunes. It was nuts!
I really love this series, it's not only a look at old phones, but a look into what feels like a different world from today's perspective. When the internet, technology, and people were much different. Some things have changed so much since then, some things for the better, others not, in my opinion. This series made me interested in collecting older phones myself.
I had this phone... still do even if it's just residing in a drawer. It was an excellent device that I used heavily until I got my first iPhone 3G. I still miss it's compact size and surprisingly great keyboard. Thanks for covering this bit of nostalgia and phone history.
As a Palm enthusiast who was a diehard Treo loyalist this spoke to me in so many different ways. Oh, and the fact that it was recorded right up the street at ODU (I'm in VaBeach) was the icing on the cake. Can't wait to relive the glory days of the Pre (here's to hoping it includes a touchstone, because inductive charging is just one more thing Palm never gets credit for)
Thank you, never had a palm, i did have windows mobile phone, and then when the carriers mandated a data plan, I dropped them. But you sir are a true historian, showing us, glimpes of the past, so we know what we innovated, created or invented as pathways to where we are now. Thank you.
Fantastic video, can't wait for the Pre revisit. In Argentina at that time a smartphone was such a difficult thing to come by. I remember my dad was given a Treo 650 (in 2007) for work, then bought an iPhone and "lent" me the Treo. I was a 14 y/o nerd with a phone that could run games and connect to the internet on the go. Such fun times.
For a few years in middle and high school I had a phase of getting older phones that we’re obsolete and every year I would get and older smartphone than the last. This was the last smartphone I was allowed to get until I was forced to get a modern phone because my parents didn’t understand it haha. I used to write entire essays on that phone with Documents To Go
oh my goodness Documents To Go! YES! that software was INSANELY awesome. the only downside was no third party fonts. OfficeSuite had that but the interface was nowhere near as good. I have so many fond memories of D2G and how amazing a software it was. if only I'd reached out to DataViz sooner and asked for fonts, maybe that nearly flawless software could've been made truly perfect.
Watched probably 10 videos of yours in a row, so I figured a sub was in order. Hopefully someday soon phones will be fun again. In the meantime, I recently bought a Nokia 6300 4G. It gives me nostalgia, plus a few modern improvements. I don't miss my smartphone a bit.

Excellent video. I owned a Palm Treo prior to those years and, despite its bloated body, I was very happy with it. I looked with envy at the Centro, although it was not offered by the cellphone service provider I had migrated to at that time. Not too many years ago, I purchased a Motorola Razr to use alternately with my more modern smartphone phone and found that using it evoked am odd nostalgia. Stumbled upon this channel a few days ago and have been peeling back the onion, slowly but surely. Did a search for 'Palm' and was pleased to see this vid. I worked at Palm in that short but epic timeframe of both their rise and fall - I was on the Treo team there from 2004 to 2009. I was part of the team that worked with Verizon to try to get them to put more resources and energy into their Treo offering (and Centro, however briefly that thing lived within the red and black environs). Obviously Sprint was behind Palm to a level the other carriers wouldn't match, but overall it was a blast to be there then and yes so many folks at Palm went on to Apple, as has been discussed over and over. Great channel and great video!
Yes please do a Palm show! I will have my Palm Tungsten sitting up and watching, probably eating popcorn while we enjoy it. And yes I still use it. I am an electronic engineer and Palm had the best calculators around along with an incredible pile of technical software.

Mr. Mobile........ahhh, the memories. I had both the Palm Centro and Palm Pre. I was a Palm PDA die-hard. Never was I more productive and organized than when I used a Palm OS device (not to be confused with Web OS, which I had mixed emotions about). Yes, please do a complete history on Palm OS!
As a PDA user in the late 90’s/early 2000’s I remember so much of this. Never owned a Treo Centro and I remember saying words “I don’t need a smart phone I have a Palm” or Pocket PC. Incidentally, at the time I was also a blogger and used VOX as well. Lots of memories on when phones were fun. Thanks Michael.
I used a Centro until June 2017. Third party 2000mAh battery, the update that fixed the power drain issues, 4GB MicroSD, and a few third party apps to fix some annoyances and get proper audio ringtones I made myself. Didn't have data, just used it as a phone and camera. In 2017 we got data and that was my excuse to get a modern smartphone... The Centro was already a Frankenstein of quite a few of them at that point after years of abuse. The camera was terrible but on rare occasions shined brightly and took stunning images for what little it could do. I miss it.
Easily the best scripts on tech TH-cam, amazing video that’s also entertaining while I have absolutely zero interest in that phone and I wasn’t old enough to even have access to one. Awesome job MrMobile!
Yes! I definitely want to see more Palm phones! I had a Treo 680 that I loved! I still have it too, beat up but it still powers on. I ran it over twice accidently with an ambulance (I was an EMT at the time) and only ever had to replace the battery door on it. It's still my favorite ever phone, and I've had a lot.
Wow this brought back memories. I had the Sprint version my last year of college in 2009-2010. I liked it so much, I bought a brand new on on eBay to use on Verizon when my family switched back then. What a great device...the Palm Calendar app is still the best schedule software ever created. Also of note, this was the last smartphone that you could buy that didn't require a data plan. My parents were too cheap at the time to pay for data, so I just used the cable and HotSync software if I needed to get something on or off the phone. Sadly, we will never see a device like this ever again.
I still have my Centro and it was everything described in this video, but my nostalgia glands are more activated by the Treo 650. It was not only my first smartphone, but also my first mobile phone! And I was nearly 30 when I got it. I still get a little bit of excitement when I see PalmOS in a photo.
Just now catching up to this and wow, what a great episode. Centro was a smash hit for Palm, which is interesting because in a way it was the "last hurrah" of some pretty old tech. I think the price made it irresistible to people who wanted a keyboard phone but could never afford one. Centro was actually my wife's first smartphone (yeah, I'm calling it that), but I was holding out for a (much more expensive) HTC Touch Diamond. But a funny thing happened while I was waiting: The Palm Pre was released. That became MY first smartphone (and my favorite to this day).
Specially love this one. Warm text, and I so much desired this one right before the modern smartphone arrived (but I ended using the marvelous M600/P1 from SonyEricsson - hey, these two deserve an episode! The best physical keyboard EVER)
I've figured out why I love this channel. Storytelling. This has to be one of my favourite places on the internet to relax and hear a story, so thank you Mr mobile.
I remember when my grandmother, who is a real estate agent, was required to purchase a palm treo because the Alberta realtors were trying to standardize lock boxes on showhomes to be opened by the palm treo. Simply touch the phone to the lockbox and it would release the key tray. I remember being blown away. It did not last long. Maybe 3 or so months before this was already a vastly obsolete system.
Still one of my favorite phones of all time. The white and green was gorgeous. It was eye catching and practical. Extremely useful for my college days.
As soon as I see a "Phones Were Fun" Notification, I get a bit nostalgic. Best tech series on TH-cam

Please do more on Palm! They're something of a tragic hero in the world of mobile tech imo.
I like videos like this, not only tech, but also some emotions, and yourself history and stories…
My mother had this phone.
Thank you for doing a video on this one when (almost) no one asked. :)
This just took me way back. I still have my Palm Pre in the box with a few of the official accessories.
My original Palm Pre’ powered on the other day, years after its last charge. It brought me back. I really miss those days.
I am a little sad because of the lack of Trek references in this video. That said, I love your WPWF series! My favorite youtuber by far!
Still one of my favorite phones of all time. The white and green was gorgeous. It was eye catching and practical. Extremely useful for my college days.
Owned a Palm Treo Pro 850 from Sprint back in the day! Loved it! Excited for the Palm Pre vid!
Ah, ODU, tangent to my own shaper of adulthood, Naval Station Norfolk.
Really enjoyed this one, Michael. Looking forward to a miniseries on webOS!
I still have a Palm Centro in my old tech drawer. Always loved Palm and Palm OS.
Its so relaxing watching this series, thanks
It was so emotional with your story with palm. Appreciated
Yes please do make more videos like these!! You are my favorite youtuber btw!!
Always creates excellent content. My best cellphone TH-camr.
Please, make the full Palm story video series. And continue this incredible series about phones from years where phones were fun. :)
Thx for the great video! Was my favourite OS back then. Was a stauch user since USR Palm Pilot days until the Treo. Hope you will cover the history!
