You can't. They could take away the equipment with the videos and all their stuff, just like they did with Francesca Commisari, a italian journalist who was take in jail for take pictures of the protest. I'm venezuelan, and i'm very serious when i tell you that, the less the police see them recording, better. They can take them in jail for "sabotage reality". Remember that in Venezuela, the government dictator is disguised as democracy. So, I'm ashamed to say but, if they're not there to show pro-government stuff, they could be reported. Sorry if my english isn't well, i try as i can.
Thank you vice and especially Alex for this front-line reporting. Again, it seems like the students demands are very reasonable. Democracy, peace and justice, economic security, of course they are a bit vague, but these are my demands. It seems there is some missing context. Perhaps a mention of Venezuela's current economic situation. I still don't understand why the students are in the streets. Have they exhausted other options? Is their government very corrupt or undemocratic? Are the students being funded or supported in any material way by the opposition groups? Is it that the students are accustomed to this kind of protest? I know what people are saying, but I haven't seen any good journalism on any of those topics. So far all I've seen in the media is the same tired platitudes and talking points. What are the facts? What the hell is really going on in Venezuela?
I don't know a lot about the subject but can tell you a few things about it. The current goverment is undemocratic. When Huge Chavez was still in power, he died last year, he changed the constitution allowing a president to be in power longer. When he died last year Maduro, the current president, took over and he wasn't elected or something. Venezuela has a lot of oil but the Venezuelan people aren't getting a lot of it, i believe that there aren't a lot of basic things like clean water, toilets and good education. The goverment is also pretty corrupt and the inflation of the Venezuelan currency is to damm high.
Bas Coolen Maduro was elected, last year, by a small margin. Chavez was elected 4 times. Domestic Venezuelan gas prices are probably the lowest in the world. Today they sit at less the 50 cents USD per gallon. I was asking vice for facts, not for your misinformation.
Keith H it's purely about political/economical/military/social abuse of power: www.cato.org/search/results/chavez Inflation rate is the highest in the world, crime rate is highest in the world. the middle/upper class rely on the private sector which has been systematically phased out by the government (Non-Venezuelan currencies are extremely difficult to obtain) as well as media outlets on paper/tv/internet have all been targeted or eliminated and the overall response by those in power has been intimidation piled onto repression. Cuba's role has been a factor as far as corruption within the oil industry is concerned because it's their ONLY reliable source of oil they have. Little outside intervention/concern has been displayed from neighboring countries unwilling to work with Maduro's government. The lower class has been permeated with anti-imperialist ideals (calling the opposition "fascist", CIA assassination conspiracies) and for their votes they are given ineffective, short-term solutions for more than a decade now and have total mistrust for the opposition or any outside intervention.
Keith H as far as elections go, they released information of all governments workers who voted in the last election against the current holders of power. and many of them subsequently lost their jobs or were blacklisted. certainly an effective way to keep others from opposing them. i don't think is how a just government imposes democracy on its people.
So sad that this kind of things are happening in a beautiful country like Venezuela, I really hope everything gets better soon, keep fighting students! citizens!
esesolox3 its called fighting for your freedom, clearly something you have no idea what it is. or you are just brainwashed by tv and the internet so you think everything is great in america/the WHOLE WORLD. either way YOU ARE part of the problem, move along

Thank you for making this video, people of VICE. Our economy is draining like hell, When Chávez gave the stroke of State in 1992, one dollar costed 0.06BsF and nowadays, after 15 years of devaluation and corruption Chavista, each dollar is costing 87BsF. That's the consequence of giving the power to militars. Fuerza a todos mis hermanos venezolanos, saldremos adelante!
I'm so glad to see this. Here in Venezuela, if you dont have internet, you cant know the reality. It's sad, but in tv channels you can only see novels, cooking, dance, but not what it's happening on the streets. ¡Viva Venezuela!
The attention Venezuela is getting kinda makes me sick. I took them about a decade to actually realize they where under a dictator. And a few protest and people are all like #preyforvenzuela and shit. Meanwhile Ukraine protesters were haveing hand to hand combat with police and protesters where gunned down on the streets. And now Russia is mobilizing to attack. Smh
In Venezuela we have spent years living a war, we live with more dangers than Iraq everyones knows in this country someone that has been kidnaped, with a family dead for insecurity, and other things. You say that we dont do things like Ukraine, we are not Ukraina and we will be free in our way, with peace and resistance. Here is to easy to die, thats the reason to be less agresive,
Schäfer G. We have years in this struggle, we have always tried to peaceful ways. Elections, protests, work stoppages, strikes oil, blocking streets, OAS, hunger strikes until death. But we have a government with absurd power, in other countries, you have institutions that let you regulate the power of government in our case we have tried many routes. We do not want a military coup. Both times that Venezuela has changed its chairman through this pathway has been worse. On one occasion a leader like hugo chavez was generated, and the second chance we did the government to take hold even more and become a totalitarian government, and that was in 2002.
Ok I admire all those students wanting a change. but the situation is not black and white.. just overthrowing Maduro's government won't make a difference.. I'm aware the only solution is the opposition which is the right wing Capriles? So change from one extreme to the other to sell national Venezuelan wealths will just keep the country the way it is with high levels of insecurity and huge gap of social classes.. don;t know this is my humble opinion and we're all allowed to make a point. I think we have something call freedom of speech.?
Yes, the extreme change wouldn't bring any good either. We would have to work out a much different aproach than the one the oposition leaders have been suggesting. I would very much like to correct you, though, in the "sell national wealths" matter. Venezuela hasn't changed when it comes to oil exportation (the bigger part of the national economy, with almost 90%), which is in big part sold to USA. Regardless of how bad Chavez and Maduro have spoken of the US, Venezuela still depends (at leats economically) almost completly of their "big enemy". So, that, added to the fact that left-wing ideology (over the past 15 years) has brought Venezuela to be sold out to countries with similar ideologies like Cuba, Russia or China, leaves it very far from being an independent country. Left has done nothing but change Venezuela's non-venezuelan owners for ones they deem ideologically fit. Kudos on demanding your freedom of speech, with ALL of the goverment-oposing TV stations shut down, lack of newspaper paper, and internet-blocking, we are working on ours.
Alexei Quijano oil it's sold to US, but its not harvested by USA, if the natural resources were administrated by usa companies, and/or the vzlan oil company sold at cheap price to transnationals, you know how fucked we would be?, if the government have a income of those resources in its totality and we barely see like a third part, now imagine a transnational gets all the incomes which then would pay in taxes to the government the value of 30% of those resources and the people would only see a 5%.... This is not the first time venezuela suffers from corruption, way before in time when vzla was ruled by the right wing, and the inflation and the problems were the same, the history is circular, something others vzlan refuse to believe, since the coup d etat that happened 2 decades ago, when chavez got in power, happened thanks to neoliberal economy policies that made people extremly extremely poor... plus, before saying the vzla left ideology comes from cuba and etc etc, as media says, try to do some research, the left wing ideology was created in vzla since the 60's with the purpose of throwing a dictator, who also to this day, have been prolly the best governor vzla have had, to those times vzla was the most developed country... funny thing, usa helped to throw that dictator too..
There is a difference in outing your frustration in a constructive or in a destructive way. So far, Venezuela is trying to go for constructive it seems. It's hard, but let's see if they can do it.

Honestamente observo gente de lo más pulcra, bien vestida.. es decir, mujer 6:58, sales a protestar porque no tienes qué comer ¿y usas aretes, dijes y cadenas de oro?
Just a side note, but the Pope asking for calm in Venezuela has nothing to do with "Papal Infallibility" which is when the Pope makes a statement "ex cathedra" (fancy pants term I know, its mostly means "official statement about doctrine") and the last time that happened was over 50 years ago. Pope Francis has never used papal infallibility even once yet. I know it was meant as a joke, just trying to fight common pop culture misconceptions (like "George Washington never told a lie" and other falsehoods)
falm88 so you're telling me they are shooting things called steel pellets? So they're firing lethal shotgun rounds? You realize what you just said basically is that they are using live lethal ammunition right? There is no such thing as steel pellet round for a shotgun or rifle even if you shot lethal birdie buck shot the pellets in the round would be steel and if they shot those rounds every protester in this video would have been on the floor dead or dying because of how close they were to the shots.

The problem is, before Chavez Venezuela had 60% of the people not beeing able or allowed to participate in anything anyhow. Do they wanna go back to this? On the other side, I understand Chavez visions, but visions do not necessarily work in reality. Can socialism work within a capitalistic world? I think not. But on the other side, if Venezuela agrees to all (mainly economic) freedom, 60% of the people will be excluded again and will return to poverty. And there seems not to be a middle way. So it's a trap. Venezuelians will walk into it, no way out, isn't it?
i would rather say Venezuela Falling, into hands of MMF and big corporations, I say to you people of Venezuela, dont be stupid like us and just give everything to them, greetings form Croatia

I have to clarify, The military is not using rubber bullets as they said in the video, they are using steel pellets
Indeed "perdigones" are shotgun pellets not rubber bullets that is terrible subtitling, completely changes the video.
I've seen you in the protests. Thank you for telling the world what's happening here in Venezuela, is important that other countries are informed.
