To be fair, every time the guy dons the mast, it's to protect or save his loved ones.
Makes me wonder if there's some ironic twist that the bloodthirsty and power-hungry mask can only be used by someone with pure intentions.
Beyond cool how the very mask empowering you is the final boss after taking over the Evil One’s corpse. What a way to cap off a classic trilogy
The mask was always the enemy. He just needed you to kill his enemies. The tragedy of Jennifer was the perfect scenario. The mask would rather stay with Rick, but rick resists so the mask makes Rick fight for his freedom.

And that was also for the cutscenes in this game, Rick, Jennifer & David were played by real life actors/actresses except for the Terror Mask, I think he was made by 3D printing except for the Splatterhouse (2010) re-release. They changed Rick, Jennifer & David's actors/actresses and used a new artstyle due to "legal reasons".
This game show us that even 16-bit era can show gruesome gore.

The second boss is called "Giant Boreworm", also the 3rd boss is the only one who's two forms have different names, the first one is named just "Teddy Bear", the second, demonic one is named "The Cannibal".

The giant Boreworm is pretty badass when you think about it. Her face explodes into maggots and she's STILL laughing at you.
Even the first boss keeps fighting on without a head. This series is really hardcore.
The last game weirded me out a little.
In most games your either a human killing demons with magic swords and or guns.
Or
A half demon killing other demons with magic, swords and or guns.
Splatter house your a human burrowing the power of a demonic mask and beating the shit outta everything with mostly your fists.
Nothing is awesome about ANY of these creatures. They left me scars on my psyche long before RE, Clock Tower and Silent Hill came along and festered in the wounds.

The first time I played this game, after finishing the first 2 games, the fact that The Mask would betray Rick actually caught me off guard...

You know it's gonna be a long fight when the game gives you an *HOUR* to beat it.
It's not really long even if you don't use the POW ability so I don't know why it's an hour
Maybe normal stages couldn't NOT have time
So because there's not really a bad ending penalty in the final boss, they give you an hour
the timer in this game makes it ridiculously hard to get good ending

If you want the best ending, you have to abuse every possible mechanic you can, no choice. Animation cancel, corner pummeling, always take the fastest path to boss room etc

I think it's close to Double Dragon 3 NES: using regular fight mechanics, it's almost impossible to beat the game, but once you master the high kick trick, you simply have to use it EVERY time and you should be fine... I really wonder if developers managed to beat their game the same way 'cause otherwise I don't see how they would play it.

I would honestly love a new sequel or reboot, sadly the 2010 reboot did so poorly I don't think Splatterhouse will be getting another game for a long time.

It gave me nightmares as a kid, then when I revisited to the game I realized it wasn't *that* scary and it was actually the weakest boss in the game. The disturbing part returned when I came to understand the whole Jennifer plot from Stage 2 and what happens if you fail to save her.
1st boss: big monster that still attacks u without the upper part of his head
2nd boss: a big fucking worm with a creepy laugh and has sharp teeth

Wait, if the Terror Mask wanted to kill him and take over the world, and it possesses the Evil One’s shattered corpse, how does the main character still have the mask’s powers? Wouldn’t the mask logically take them away first?
The mask was to eager to have a body of it's own that it slipped its mind

This is probably my most fav horror game. I dont even like horror games and yet I loved this game. It scared me and kept me scared throughout the hole game. All the bosses ere nightmarish as fuck. Such cool game

This was my fav in the series, so I have questions
Why did you never use Rick's spin kick or Mutant Rick's "guts blaster?"
Why did you hardly ever use the "up + attack while enemy is in a hold" which is Rick's more powerful throw and Mutant Rick's "gut punch?" Also, you only ever used Mutant Rick's piledriver once.
Sometimes you combo'd from a hold, sometimes you didn't: you get amazing damage from Rick's "headbutt, headbutt, power throw" combo or Mutant Rick's "choke, choke, gutpunch/piledriver" combo.
Fun vid to watch, just curious by some of your gameplay choices.

Spin kick has full invulnerability though. And comboing from a hold does more damage, and racking damage is the key to getting the good ending (since either Jennifer or David will die if you don't finish stages 1,2 and 4 before the timer runs out)

I'd always found the expression on the mask boss's face funny when Rick jump-kicks out of the air, like at around 9:30.
If the jumpy bosses weren't programmed to jump around like goddamn cowards, I imagine you could easily stun lock them in the corner like they were doing to the 4th boss XD.
